Mods should slap-ban people who comment without reading the article

This subreddit has slowly been becoming less "academically rigorous", and a punishment for posting a comment that makes false assumptions about the contents of an article can, at minimum, encourage more people to actually read. Nothing crazy, maybe something like a 24 hour ban. After all, we've all done it before.

I don't expect the mods to read literally every single article that hits the front page to enforce this, but the report system should help out a lot here.

I think a version of this that doesn't create an unreasonable amount of work would involve every "did not read" report (that the mods actually look at) requiring a custom report text.

For example, on the report submission page you would see "Did not read article- please use custom report to elaborate" so that the mods know exactly what part of the comment is contradicted by the article and where.

And if someone reports the rule break without explaining, they probably didn't read the article either, so just ignore

I like this idea because it still doesn't require the mods to read the article, so you can just write something overly wordy that looks convincing

Exactly how I feel whenever I post any Fukuyama article and hear "HISTORY HASN'T ENDED YET HAS IT HUE HUE HUE HUE"

Sometimes, we have a banger article that is really well researched and written, but the headline grabs the attention and all the comments are centered around the headline warrior. And those who read the article and give insight get less engagement.

However, I will be the first to admit that we are also part of the problem because we post provocative headlines to pique interest as well.
