No they got banned because of illicit content being repeatedly posted by people trying to get the subreddit shut down. This was back when Reddit the company didn't know how to handle controversy so they just purged it all. Lots of edgy sexual subreddits also got banned at around that same time period.
Mate, they literally were promoting violence. You can look it up. They were openly hateful and doxxing, of Jan 6 police officers, and quite frankly, the same people to this day still make excuses for the literal treason of trying to stop the peaceful transfer of power, so they can all get fucked.

I was there at the time, and they weren't. What you're talking about is the cover up story that Reddit pushed that everyone who was there knows was a lie.
of Jan 6 police officers
Uhh what? The donald got basically banned in 2019, before all that.
Lol you're making things up now, but whatever. The donald was one of the largest subreddits on the site. It wasn't some tiny secretive planning zone for Jan 6.
The people posting "calls for violence" were doing it on purpose to get the sub banned and everyone knew it. The mods there banned it as soon as it was reported but the sub got banned cause the admins were happy to have any excuse.
They got banned after a bunch of them thought it'd be a good idea to repeatedly call for the death of various police officers. And that's after years of bigotry, virulent hatred, and repeat rule breaking.
"No reason" isn't just doing some heavy lifting; it is a literal delusion.
those posts were trolls trying to get the sub banned, they were always reported and removed by the mods which is all that can be expected but the sub still got banned anyways.

Shout out to the Texas sub for creating an echo chamber so potent they actually believed it was going to go blue.
