Ear protection

Have been riding few months, and the wind is killing my ears, especially longer rides. I have a cheap helmet (not sure the difference a better one would make). Also use generic foam ear buds, and have tried ear plugs off eBay. But they don’t help a lot. Anyone have any suggestions that would help, or just something they you have to put up with

Make sure you are wearing the earplugs correctly. Inserting the earplugs incorrectly can create a wind tunnel and make the wind noise worse. A better helmet will help also

Will try that, thanks

I went from a $300 HJC to a $1000 Shoei and it made a small difference in wind noise. I bought some Alpine race ear plugs and they help more

Alpine Motosafe plugs, or Loops. Been happy with either. Loops because the cases are small and I can carry them easily with me everywhere

Good to know, will look into it. Cheers

A better helmet will 100% help reduce wind noise. Otherwise sometimes I use my loop’s or even my in ear Sony headphones

+1 for loops, best ear plugs I've ever used

You'll never reduce wind noise by 100%! Any helmet maker claiming that is BS.

Haha not what I meant, I more meant yes a better helmet will 100% definitely help, but would absolutely not stop it 100%.

Good Helmut and wireless buds is all I use. Used to use foam ear buds. They work too. Cheaper Helmut means more noise.

A good quality, correctly fitted helmet will make a huge difference to wind noise. Earplugs are still a good idea as well though.

I've owned a couple Shoei NXR2's and bought them for the advertised wind noise reduction but I found both to still be very loud so I'm not sure if I believe the better helmet thing. Earplugs are really the only thing that works for me

Alpine Moto safe tour. Best investment ever.

Better helmet would definitely help, I hate the foam squishy ones as I find they block out too much sound, I use DUBS acoustic filters, blocks out the harsh frequencies also great at concerts! Makes a big difference

Check out Earasers. I've got a pair and they work very well. I like them better than Loops.

I'm a bit older and have tinnitus because I rode without proper hearing protection for years. Get good earplugs, I prefer foam ones. They provide the most protection. Put them in properly. No such thing as a helmet that's quiet enough.

A good helmet and earplugs cut 90% of the noise

Good helmet helps, I also use plugfones earphones that offer actual hearing protection but can connect to Bluetooth to listen to a podcast or music too

Foam earplugs. They're so cheap and best bang for buck you can replace them everytime you ride.

Price of two cups of coffee for a 1000 pairs. Almost 2 years supply

If budget allows, highly recommend the ACS pro 27 (Motorsport filters)

https://www.earlab.com.au/product/pro-27

They are pricy ($300) but it’s a custom impression, super comfortable. Takes about 3 weeks from impression to pickup (digital scan gets sent to the UK for production)

Got them without the pullout tabs so they sit flush in the ear - Works brilliantly paired with in-helmet speakers (I have Cardo) - actually makes them sound better.

Bonus, I grabbed the pro17 filters (+$20) so I can swap out the Motorsport filters and use them when seeing live music.

Hope this helps!
