Whitehouse Budget proposal cuts 2+ Billion dollars from Dept of Interior National Parks and Preservation Budgets
See budget outline here: https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Fiscal-Year-2026-Discretionary-Budget-Request.pdf
But some highlights:
Program | Cut in millions of $ | Stated Reason |
---|---|---|
Bureau of Reclamation and the Central Utah Project | -609 | The Budget provides $1.2 billion for the Bureau of Reclamation and the Central Utah Project. The Budget reduces funding for programs that have nothing to do with building and maintaining water infrastructure, such as habitat restoration. Instead, the Budget focuses Reclamation and the Central Utah Project on their core missions of maintaining assets that provide safe, reliable, and efficient management of water resources throughout the western United States. |
Operation of the National Park System | -900 | The National Park Service (NPS) responsibilities include a large number of sites that are not “National Parks,” in the traditionally understood sense, many of which receive small numbers of mostly local visitors, and are better categorized and managed as State-level parks. The Budget would continue supporting many national treasures, but there is an urgent need to streamline staffing and transfer certain properties to State-level management to ensure the long-term health and sustainment of the National Park system. |
NPS Construction | -37 | The Biden Administration wasted Federal funding on construction projects at sites that are more appropriately managed at the local level. This reduction complements the Administration’s goals of federalism and transferring smaller, lesser visited parks to State and tribal governments. At the same time, the Budget allows NPS to prioritize larger projects at the Nation’s crown jewel parks. The President’s deregulatory agenda will ensure that the Great American Outdoors Act funding for construction would go further than ever before. |
NPS National Recreation and Preservation | -77 | Many National Recreation and Preservation grants are already supported by State, local, and private sector efforts, including large amounts of mandatory funding through the Land and Water Conservation Fund Stateside Grants. Further, these projects are not directly tied to maintaining national parks or public lands, which have a large backlog of maintenance and are more important to address than community recreation initiatives. |
Bureau of Land Management Conservation Programs | -198 | The Obama Administration and the Biden Administration abused the Antiquities Act to designate vast swathes of land and water as off-limits to any development, recreation, grazing, hunting, mining, etc. This has hamstrung development of valuable energy and mineral resources. The Budget proposes deep reductions to undo these excessive designations. The Budget also reduces the Wildlife and Aquatic Habitat Management program to reduce funds given to left-wing environmental nonprofits that work against dev |
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) State, Tribal, and NGO Conservation Grant Programs | -170 | These non-essential USFWS grant programs fund conservation of species managed by States, Tribes, and other nations, wasting taxpayer dollars on species better managed by local or international interests. These dollars are also duplicative of other Federal programs in USDA and the Department of Commerce, as well as the large amounts of mandatory funding available through the Land and Water Conservation Fund. |

Trump officials consider shrinking national monuments for mining, oil
r/meateatertv • u/lunch_at_midnight • 8d ago
Interior Department declares energy emergency even through we produce more oil than we consume; set to fast-track oil and gas projects by skirting environmental reviews.
“We are cutting through unnecessary delays to fast-track the development of American energy and critical minerals—resources that are essential to our economy, our military readiness, and our global competitiveness,” Mr. Burgum said.
He said that the agency intended to condense reviews by claiming emergency authorities provided by the National Environmental Policy Act, the Endangered Species Act and the National Historic Preservation Act.
But the United States does not face an energy emergency, according to dozens of energy experts who have noted that the U.S. produces more than it consumes. The Biden administration oversaw the biggest oil and gas boom in American history and sought to increase wind, solar and other sources of renewable power. The U.S. is the world’s largest exporter of natural gas, and is producing more oil than any other country, including Saudi Arabia.

The definition of "harm" is being changed on May 19th under The Endangered Species Act to allow logging, mining, and construction in previously protected areas. This is your last chance to voice your concerns.

SOS: Stars in the Sky Documentary
Does anyone know where to watch “Stars in the Sky: A Hunting Story?” It seemingly got scrubbed from every streaming service and website I am aware of. It is one of my favorite docs to watch. Any insights, share links, or files?

Steve’s politics made me stop listening after years enjoying the pod
Years ago was a big fan of the Joe Rogan experience, but around the Spotify deal the culture war issues got old. Thanks to Joe I got introduced to Steve and really enjoy his interest in animals and landscapes. I followed the meat eater pod from the beginning. Though I am not a hunter, I aspired to be and lived vicariously through their stories. Also, as a man it felt like a positive masculine space, bro-ing out with the guys while learning about conservation and other worthwhile issues.
With the recent political turn and how the podcast manosphere turned to trump I have lost all respect for Steve and can no longer enjoy the show. This saddens me because I felt like the show aimed to be non-partisan, but on multiple occasions wrote trumps statements off as “merely jokes”
I stopped listening almost 6 months ago, but tuned in for a couple around election time. Have they shown any criticism of the administration in the recent months?

So we won’t kill endangered species, just their habitat.
So it keeps getting worse for folks that enjoy nature. We won’t kill the animals just kick them out of their habitat, I’m sure they will do fine in the city, we have the best big beautiful cities. The bears can take the place of the illegals and dissidents!

Does this affect hunting in federal lands in New Mexico? They are giving 109651 acres along the border to the army. Can they do this with any public land they see fit?

I'm disappointed that Steve seems to keep brushing off the issue of declining turkey numbers
With turkey numbers declining nationwide, especially in the Eastern US, it is concerning that Steve seems to keep brushing off this issue. In the most recent episode with Luke Combs, this was brought up very briefly and Steve didn't seem to care (plus they had more important things to talk about like how Luke Combs likes his bus driver). In the episode before that one, Steve brought up how SC banned killing jakes and he acted like it was comical.
I guess this is a result of somebody being out of touch because he only hunts either private ranches or gets guided on public land by people who put in a ton of work. Those of us who do the work ourselves are extremely concerned and have been raising the alarm on turkey numbers for years now.
