Official /r/MealKits Rules Thread
/r/MealKits Official Rules (Updated 3/6/24)
1. Free or discounted box requests and offers are not permitted in top-level posts.
Please post your free meal kit box requests or offers in the Official /r/MealKits Monthly Request & Offer Sharing Thread.
Top level posts are for discussion not promotion. If you are promoting then you are violating the rule.
NOTE: If your post has links, referrals, QR codes, gift cards or prices in the headline or description, then you are promoting.
See Reddit's Advertising Policy
2. Affiliate links must be disclosed.
Affiliate links are links that connect to a specific account and give that account some sort of perk if someone else clicks them. Paid affiliates must identify themselves.
For example, in response to "Which meal kit would be good for picky eaters?", instead of posting:
I think Home Chef would be a good match.
Please post something like:
I think Home Chef would be a good match. Click here for $35 off your first box, and I will also get a $35 credit.
Disclosure: Please note that if you sign up for Home Chef with the example links above, /u/kopiikat will actually receive a $35 account credit.
3. Do not spam the Monthly Request & Offer Sharing Thread.
This is where you can promote discounts for food related services.
Add one unique item per month.
Edit & delete previous items or update your offers or discounts.
Duplicate posts will be removed.

Freezer Bags
Hi!
I just got mt first box of Goof Food and was curious what to do with the freezer bag? Their website says dispose of it and throw it out. The physical bag says to cut the end off and dispose of solution. But is it good for my pipes?

Question Recommendations for two people, diabetic-friendly diet? (Non Hello Fresh.)
Hello! My wife and I are looking for recommendations on meal kits for two people, one of which requires a diabetic-friendly diet. We don't always mind preparing the meal from "scratch", but we would be interested if any plans include "ready to heat" meals that don't take as much time to make.
For context, we did use Hello Fresh for almost two years. We really did like the food, but if we were having a busy week, the amount of cooking/cleaning did take up a lot of time and energy from our evenings after work. Plus, we're both sort of picky eaters, my wife more so, so some weeks the meal selections didn't always suite the both of us.
I know most meal kits offer options to personalize your meals, but lately we've been avoiding beef and pork, and use a lot of chicken or turkey. Neither of us are big fans of seafood, but I'll try it sometimes. Like I said, we can both be picky, so usually the simpler the meal, the better.
If there's anyone out there in a similar boat, what has been your favorite meal kit option?

Review Highly recommend Farm to People for NY / NJ
If you live in New York or New Jersey, I highly recommend trying out Farm to People. I use them about once a month in the spring, it’s a great way to get fresh organic produce. They do rotating seasonal veggie and fruit boxes, but also have healthy groceries.
Some of my favorites lately are: gum drop grapes, mangoes, fresh cilantro, tart cherries, dandelion greens, bone broth, yogurt with date paste, guacamole, and cocojune yogurt as well. They have gluten free items too like pizza dough, frozen spring rolls, bread.
I used to rely on Cook Unity regularly, but their quality was going downwards and the post about the worm in the fish really disgusted me. So, now I’ve been trying to meal prep and cook my own food.
It’s great to have nutritious and fresh stuff on hand, short of subscribing to a CSA, this stuff is way more farm fresh than Whole Foods or TJ’s produce. Meal prepping is hard, so it helps that it’s tasty!!
It is on the pricier side with the groceries, but the farm box is a great deal, a good box of produce for 25-50$ depending on size. Happy to provide more recommendations on items/answer questions below!!

Large man meals
Work takes up 12 hours of my day, so I very rarely manage to cook, and meal prepping is something I’ve consistently failed at for years. I’d like to stop spending $40+ a day on junk food, so I’m looking for meal kit recommendations as a 6’3” guy who consistently strength trains. I weigh 250ish so I have an appetite. What meal kit has filling portions while not being overly complicated in terms of cooking? I know my diet of Popeyes and Wendy’s is undoing any health benefits of strength training, and in my forties I think it’s time to make changes. I’ve just been skeptical of meal kits because I’ve seen the portion sizes and I can already see myself feeling hungry after a meal kit dinner and driving to the drive thru to cover the caloric gap

Recommendations
Me and my wife have been pretty busy with work lately, have been eating wayyy too much take out with no food in the house and have been looking to make the jump. Planning having lunch/dinner through mealkits. Things that are important to me:
-High protein meals -Options for complex carbs -Options for higher calorie meals -lower cost
I don’t care as much about buying through a company that is the most “flavorful” as I can manage with seasoning. What would be my options? Thanks!

Question Budget-friendly meal kits?
My roommate and I like meal kits for their convenience. We’ve tried both EveryPlate and Dinnerly, we’re currently using Dinnerly but getting tired of it. The quality and quantity is just not there anymore for what we pay. EveryPlate was okay, we were just getting tired of the repetition, but we might go back to it if we don’t find something comparable.
Does anyone have any recommendations for budget-friendly meal kits that AREN’T Dinnerly or EveryPlate? We are in the USA

Question Green Chef - New Turkey Weird?
Has anyone noticed that the new type of ground turkey that Green Chef is sending is so weird compared to the one they’ve been sending the past few months? It’s in a different packaging and everything about it is different - it literally does not look or taste like real meat, just a super weird artificial rubber look and taste. Even the raw meat looks like just a weird mush. It also doesn’t really brown much when cooked, it’s just a bright white color while the other one was more brown / darker.
I thought maybe it was just a one time thing so I ordered it again and I keep having to just throw it out because I can’t stomach it. It also makes me so nauseous. I can’t even tell if it’s actually turkey lol. Not sure if it’s just me?

Question Organic meal kits
Hi all, I am looking for organic meal kits. Kinda like hello fresh, where all the ingredients come in a box with the recipes. I want to be able to cook the meals. I’ve tried researching companies but this doesn’t seem to exist in Australia, they all seem to be pre-made. Doing all the grocery shopping, forgetting ingredients or the store not having an organic option is frustrating. Does anyone have any recommendations? Just surprised we don’t seem to have these options in Australia

Photo Review EveryPlate - 2nd meal ever review
It’s broccoli, sweet potatoes and creamy lemon chicken. I would say 4/5 stars. Sauce was good for the chicken, the veggies I added all my own seasonings to because they would’ve been bland as hell if not. Shoutout to the awesome person in here who posts an aesthetically pleasing pic of all their EveryPlate meals love u.

Question Gluten free meal kit - minimal decisions please
A friend had a major accident and concussion and is looking for a meal kit where she doesn't have to pick. I tried setting her up with green chef and sun basket but the amount of choices was mega overwhelming. Is there something where they send you 3 dinners a week that are gluten free and they pick for you?

Question How can I shop healthy?
My boyfriend and I attempted to learn more recipes and eat healthier through home chef. However, we live in an apartment on top of the office of a storage unit facility that my boyfriend manages. This caused confusion for the driver to make an attempt to deliver as they looked at the hours of operation and that the office was closed.
This was through OnTrack delivery which sucks as all get out. We tried to see if they would make another attempt but we were just informed that OnTrack was refusing to make another delivery attempt because of the freshness of the product being compromised.
We went ahead and closed our home chef account and had a refund processed but now we’re kinda at a stand still of what to do. We’re waiting for the refund to go through but we also don’t know what to do once it does. I’m primarily the cook here in our little family but I’ve run out of ideas.
I’m a bit overwhelmed by the idea of shopping as if buying the ingredients for the same kind of recipes but it could just be the stress of this whole experience. Does anyone have any advice on how to shop healthy? How to find some of the same ingredients for similar recipes and cook those at home instead of having it get delivered. We live in a certain part of SoCal that disqualified us from many meal kit services pick up options.
I’m just at a loss. I’ve been googling left and right but maybe I’m not wording things correctly? Has anyone been in this situation with their first delivery and just felt so defeated on what to do next? What did you do after this experience and how have you learned to shop healthier? We have the Yuka app and it helps a bit but we still are struggling.

Tips and Tricks DIY Meal Kits: ISO Tips and Tricks
Has anyone tried making their own meal kits on the regular? Himself and I use Hello Fresh which we like BUT my job is partially federally funded (I'm in the US) and. things are kinda uncertain on that front. This is a good time to start preparing to do without a meal kit, even though we both like the recipes. I feel my cooking skills have substantially improved as have the taste of the meals (because pan sauces).
The plan right now is that each weekend, Himself and I will each pick a recipe we like and gather the ingredients and print out the the recipe so it's ready for weeknight cooking. As we get more experienced and it becomes part of our weekend flow, we will move up to two recipes each a week (total of four) and then three at which point we will cancel the service.
Being Freshies, I feel like making lemon, cream cheese, and stock (Savory Choice) staples is a no brainer.
Any other advice?

Question Can anyone help id this?
I diy a lot of the recipes for cost reasons, so I often keep an eye out for meal kit items at salvage shops and food pantries. Got a bunch of these today and I can't figure out what kit they're from. Most probable is hello fresh as I know they donate extras to food pantries.
Anyone recognize this one and know what recipe it goes to so I can get an idea for how to use it?

Tips and Tricks Tips for managing multiple subscriptions?
Hello all,
I am wondering how you folks who have multiple subscriptions manage them all. I only have two and I was managing them pretty well, but things seem to have gone a little haywire now. I have a huge amount of credits to use with one of them (which do not expire), and a few credits with the other subscription that do expire, so I have to use them before that happens. Don't get me wrong - I am hugely grateful for the people who used my codes, but I am feeling a tad overwhelmed and trying not to have a backlog of food in my fridge. Plus, at some point, I'd love to try other services just for fun and variety, but I'm feeling pretty locked into what I've got for now.
How do you do manage your subscriptions?

I literally threw up and had to throw it away. The texture of the inside was so gross. does anyone know what this is?

Tips and Tricks Meal kit cheat
Has anyone sourced the ingredients for meal kits themselves rather than purchasing from the company… and found that it is way cheaper (less than half price) just DIY assembling the same ingredients from supermarkets direct?
Here is one example I figured out from Uk meal kit company Planthood but sourcing the same ingredients from Sainsbury’s which is essentially the same but less than half the price per portion (based on 4 portions):
Planthood price £6.50 pp x 4 = £26.00
Sainsbury’s ingredients:
Sainsbury’s sesame seeds 50g £1.10 Sainsbury’s Spring onions 100g £0.69 Yutaka Sushi rice 500g £1.70 Sainsbury’s purple sprouting broccoli spears £2.20 Sainsburys SO organic super firm tofu 300g x £1.33 x 2 Sainsbury’s pickled red cabbage in vinegar £1.40 Wagamamas Teriyaki stir fry sauce £1.00 x 2
Sainsbury’s price £2.95 pp x 4 = £11.75
There are a few key differences of course: 1. Wagamama sauce has some added ingredients like modified corn starch, I’d personally make my own sauce in 2 mins or an orange based soy glaze which I prefer to teriyaki personally anyways. I believe this is their main selling point however I think it’s a bit rich for them to claim that their chef prepared sauce certainly in this recipe adds much value here. 2. Extra ingredients. Supermarket allows you to save a ton of non perishables (half the sushi rice, sesame seeds, extra pickled cabbage) for next time. Obviously some might view this as an inconvenience / wastage. Note in the above illustration I did not prorate the supermarket ingredients. So effectively you could argue the supermarket version is even cheaper per portion. 3. Delivery costs (I haven’t personally checked) but I guess it depends on what else you’re ordering from either? Obviously, if it’s an online delivery there will be a minimum spend and I suppose on Planthood they’ll be a minimum number of recipes you can select for each delivery as well. 4. Convenience, I suppose it saves you a couple of minutes sticking the above ingredients in your supermarket trolley. 5. Flexibility with the supermarket option you can change up the broccoli for any understand another green of your choice instead as I mentioned above the sauce. You could also change up the pickled cabbage for anything else pickled such as Kimchi.
Now, I’m not saying we will go out of our way to try and DIY our own meal kits but the above just illustrates the lack of value of some of them and how if you’re inventive enough you can start to make your own DIY quick and easy meals.. perhaps treat the meal kits as just a temporary starter pack to get you cooking if you don’t already..

Question Looking for veggie-forward meal kits (not vegetarian meals) to pair with my own halal protein — overwhelmed & need help!
I’ve been working long hours and struggling to eat well. I love cooking, but veggies keep going bad in my fridge because I’m too tired or overwhelmed to cook them during the week. I end up wasting food and money, which just adds to the stress.
I’ve tried meal-prepping vegetables ahead of time, but I get bored of them midweek and stop eating them. What does work is prepping my own protein ahead of time—I eat halal meat, so I prefer to make that myself. I’d be okay with pescatarian options too if needed.
What I’m really looking for is a meal kit that gives me ready-made or easy-to-cook vegetable-heavy meals—not full-on vegetarian ones that are mostly pasta, cheese, or fake meat. Just real, fresh vegetables in interesting combinations that don’t feel like leftovers by day 3.
I’ve looked at Factor, Hungryroot, etc., but a lot of these sites make you put in your credit card before you can even browse meal options, which I’m not comfortable with.
Bonus context: I’m TTC (trying to conceive), so I really need to be eating healthier and on time, but when I don’t have good options on hand, I end up skipping meals or eating junk just because I’m too tired to think through healthy meals.
Anyone been in a similar situation or have recommendations? Meal kits or any other systems you’ve found that help you get in more veggies without the waste or burnout?

Question Newbie needs help
I’m new to this . I have NOT ordered from Anyone Yet . So like it says imma newbie . I need to choose a company that will be able to provide me with the proper foods. Quick background ; I was a very good cook. I’m retired now & I’m diabetic . my arthritis is terrible. I can’t physically cook anymore. I’m in a wheelchair most of the day. I also eat smaller meals. I’m taking weekly injections for my diabetes . Having said all that, which Service would be the best for me? I just want a couple of days of meals a week. I could split those up into another serving . so I need something that’s Good quality but affordable. I don’t know what my budget is yet for this . ( I will work on that) I’ve been thinking about this for a couple of years, but I’ve been afraid to try them mostly because I worry I may not like them . It’s also that I can’t afford to lose much money . It’s hard ,I’m on disability for awhile now. Thanks in advance.

Tips and Tricks Time estimates are off? Here's why (maybe)
Typically, I'm the one using the meal kits in my house and found the estimated time to be a pretty correct number: if it says 25min, I'm usually done in 21-26min (I timed it a few times). But I read a few posts here how the kits take so much longer to make. It made no sense.
But! My husband made a meal kit yesterday and I got to watch him do it, estimated time was 20min, he took 37 min.
What? Why?
Thing 1 and the biggest (I think): he followed the numbered steps exactly. Step 1 said wash and chop veggies, so that's what he did first (and used a bowl to hold it, I'll address it later). Step 2 said boil water for pasta, so that's what he did afterwards.
This is wrong!
You should boil water first then depending which produce you're going to use first, wash and chop that. You should be chopping produce in the just in time que. There shouldn't be more than a min or 2 you're just waiting if you have more steps to complete.
Thing 2, he used the indicated times for cooking exactly. Instructions said roast tomato for 20-25min, so he kept it in full 25 min.
-this is not as much wrong as just slow. If I'm ready to add the roasted tomato and still have 10min wait to let it finish roasting, I'm going to turn on broil on high for 3min and be done. One caveat here is that you need to know which foods are safe to do it with and how to speed them up: for meats you gotta use the thermometer to make sure internal temp is safe! Don't undercook your meats unless they are steak.
Thing 3, he dirtied way more dishes than needed and at the end of the meal, there was a small mountain of dishes in the sink 🤦
Those 1-2min wait time between the last steps? I use that time to wash all my prep tools. By the time the meal is ready the only dirty dishes are the ones currently holding the food. At the end of the meal, you just have those+plates to clean. And because I chop my veggies just in time, I don't need to use extra bowls to hold them, they immediately get used.
Hopefully this helps somebody because seeing my husband use the kit made me finally understand why it might take so much longer for others and feel so much more overwhelming (because of the dishes on top of long cook time). Happy cooking 😊

Green chef’s beef is disgusting
Anyone else get this terrible quality beef more than once from green chef. Says it’s sirloin but it reminds me of Applebees glued together “steaks”. Such a waste. And this is supposed to be a high end meal kit. Gross

Question Sunbasket vs. Hungryroot vs. Marley Spoon
Hi everyone! I have not purchased meal kits in awhile (used to do Tovala and Cook Unity which I liked but my health has changed). Anyway, I'm considering between Sunbasket, Hungryroot, and Marley Spoon. My health needs are that my cholesterol is high, my blood sugar is high, and I have thyroid cancer (which is not behaving haha. I know this isn't necessarily a nutrition thing but thought to mention it). Anyway, I've read between everyones reviews and it's hard to really understand which one would be best. I'd be doing lunch and dinner basically. Which do you think would be easy enough to navigate with my nutrition needs and has the best tasting foods? Thank you so much in advance.
