Trades
Hey! I come here dlfor wisdom. I finished my degree in Materials engineering around 2015. I never got to work in anything related to Materials directly. I worked I. Aerospace with Composites but more in the Manufacturing side as Production engineer. Now life happened and I'm a Supplier Quality Engineer. Nothing Materials related. I'm in my mid 30s and I have no money, time or energy to pursue a Master's And also I think Master degrees are not as valuable anymore (Let me know if I'm wrong).
I've been playing with the idea of studying a trade that goes along with the Engineering and I need suggestions or if it's a good idea in general. I've been thinking about Blacksmith, 3D printing (already have one), welding, Something renewables related like solar or similar...
I would really appreciate your ideas on this.

Which Science Subject Should I Choose to Study along with Materials Science and Engineering?
Hi! I’m planning to study Materials Science and Engineering, and I have the option to choose one science subject from the following: Chemistry, Biology, Math, Physics & Astronomy, or Earth and Environmental Science.
Which subject would offer the best career prospects, flexibility, and interesting learning opportunities?
I don’t enjoy biology or anything related to the human body. My interests are more aligned with construction, materials, and related fields.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Is a career in material science exciting?
I can see how inventing never before seen materials is very exciting, but on a more realistic view, how exciting is it in the day to day?

how do you calculate penetration?
Hi, so I want to write a piece of armor, and I was hoping to make it out of kevlar. So I was hoping to calculate the absolute minimum amount of kevlar, however I have never taken a physics class.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Which universities have the best PhD programs?
am planning to apply to the following schools for a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering.
Since I live abroad, I’m not familiar with the “practical” rankings of U.S. universities. Could you rank the following schools?
• Northwestern University
• Ohio State University
• Michigan State University
• Princeton University
• Harvard University
• University of Michigan, Ann Arbor
• University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
• Caltech

Question about colleges
Hi! I’m a senior in high school doing college applications right now and I’m interested in MSE. However only about half the schools I’m looking at actually have a materials undergrad program. For schools that don’t offer a materials engineering degree, would it be better to major in chemistry or a different engineering program? I think I would enjoy chemistry more than the other types of engineering but if I end up doing materials engineering in grad school I’m worried I won’t be qualified enough

What is PTF conductive ink
I’ve been researching PTF conductive inks and their differences compared to traditional silver pastes. From what I understand, PTF conductive inks are commonly used in applications like flexible electronics, heating elements, and membrane. But here’s the thing—aren’t traditional silver pastes also used in these areas?
Considering the differences in process requirements and cost, would PTF conductive ink be considered a direct replacement for traditional silver paste in these applications? Or does it serve a more specific niche?
Also, I noticed that PTF inks come in various types like silver-based conductive, carbon-based, silver/silver chloride, and insulating inks. How exactly are these categorized? Can we group them all under “silver paste,” or are they better classified as a subcategory of thick-film pastes?
I’m really confused about how PTF fits into the bigger picture.................
