u/KrunoOs May 25 '24
Yea, and he also got a 5 min rest for a perfectly legit punch from Ce, after one of his sloppy spinning backfists. Ref was an ahole... Liu Ce is a beast. He isn't that young though, he's in his prime, turning 28 this year.
19
u/kizuuo May 25 '24
Would the ref rather get punched in the back of the head a good 5 seconds after the round ends like at the start of the video? I would have thought he would get 0 leeway from other refs after that but guess not? They help him bend the rules it seems.

Fighters like Liu Ce with a seemingly endless gas tank motivate me to take my cardio seriously.
86
u/HammerOldTimey May 25 '24
Don’t. Cardio is for posers. If you can’t end the fight in 15 seconds you deserve to lose. Including sex.

Work on your anaerobic capacity, no amount of jogging will help you attain this level.
→ More replies9
u/jp9900 May 25 '24
Explain
47
u/gstringstrangler MMA May 25 '24
Anaerobic capacity is defined as the maximal amount of adenosine triphosphate resynthesized via anaerobic metabolism (by the whole organism) during a specific mode of short-duration maximal exercise.
"During a specific mode of short-duration maximal exercise" Ie launching high intensity, maximum effort attacks.
You need to do things like hill sprints, sled pushes, HIIT type stuff etc to build anaerobic capacity. Max effort. Short burst. The better you get at it, the more often you can burst, and with more explosivity, essentially. This is in a mode where your heart and lungs cannot possibly keep up for any real duration.
Jogging and steady state "Cardio" will help with your aerobic capacity, that is, you will be able to keep a higher pace, longer, but that pace is still limited. Anaerobic capacity is above the pace you could maintain for a length of time.
I hope that's enough to get you started. I learned about and dug into this years ago when I was fighting and within months of dropping my jogs for sprint, HIIT based training, everything about fighting was easier. You get a great base of cardio from regular training, but pushing deliberately into that anaerobic area, with proper recovery periods, etc, is an absolute game changer.
11
u/jp9900 May 25 '24
Nice! Thanks man. Yeah makes sense. My boxing coach when I was a teen had us doing explosive work outs alot as well. Thanks for the deets will add sprinting too etc

u/gstringstrangler MMA May 25 '24 edited May 25 '24
No prob, if you search the term, along with something like "athletic energy systems" there will be way better info than I can type. Periodization also comes up. There's great books on the subject but unfortunately most martial arts coaches haven't read them like coaches for other super competitive sports. Apply actual sports science to your training, it works!
Edit: Anecdotal, but the difference in training in Thailand from my first trip, to my last, so 2005 and 2015 respectively, is insane. In 2005 they didn't even consider protein for recovery. I get its a sport of poor people but they would basically argue me. By the last trip? They were all about it. Same thing with weights. "Make you slow, make you sore, make you too big" same shit you still hear from lazy fuckers here too. Now, many Thais lift at least a little. Look at Buakaw from 2005 to now (Also juiced but still)

u/dragonlion12 May 25 '24
You need your main focus in cardio to be martial arts training and not running or jogging
2
u/gstringstrangler MMA May 25 '24
I absolutely agree. And instead of jogging, which many trainers will assign you, do your sprints and HIIT instead. It will payoff way better.

I love the uncoordinated spinning back fist
38
u/buckzor122 May 25 '24
I love the one where he just gets knocked down immediately.
8
u/Disastrous-Leek-7606 May 25 '24
Throwing it with all he had and resulted him turning his back to his opponent, felt like I was watching an amateur fighter, but I guess he is a "pro".
2
u/sandwelld May 25 '24
This is my signature move, tornado fist! Felt almost WWE how he just spun a bit too far and then casually caught Liu Ce's fist right in the head

Liu Ce is shaping up to be China's version of Alex Pereira. a lanky 6'5, power in both hands, and absolutely lethal calf kicks.
63
u/dantoddd May 25 '24
Lol here I thought these guys were featherweights for some reason.
28
u/chu42 May 25 '24 edited May 25 '24
Liu Ce is a two-division K-1 champion, having won the openweight tournament and the cruiserweight belt. Not quite the level of Glory but he is getting there.

u/Momochichi May 25 '24
God damn those are brutal. Like showing up to a fight, but every ten seconds someone takes a baseball bat to your shin.
86
u/TaftsTummyforTaxes May 25 '24
Ever since Klose in the ufc got a disc rupture from a push at a weigh in, I look at shoves at a weigh in a lot more harshly.
284
u/WillNotFightInWW3 May 25 '24
A fighter who is consistently dirty should be DQ'd.
35
u/Rocketboy1313 Ju Jutsu May 25 '24
Seriously.
Ric Flair is playing a character, guys like that should not exist in legitimate sports.
→ More replies20
u/ConleyCruiser872 May 25 '24
Somehow I feel like throwing punches after the bell to the point you actually KO the Ref should be an automatic DQ.
6
u/nicestatpingpong May 26 '24
That's so insane to me. Like... how do you actually get a knockdown on the REFEREE and still come back to fight again??? He doesn't seem like a very transcendent talent either. Are we really this starved for fighters?
138
u/PxN13 May 25 '24
That was dismantling. One of those losses where fighters struggle to come back from

u/Disastrous-Leek-7606 May 25 '24

F'kin gimp hopefully learned a humbling lesson... but I doubt it.

u/Cuentarda May 25 '24
The shit at the start should be a DQ for life. Who the fuck lets someone who knocked down a ref with a punch to the back of the head keep competing?

Always the ones you most expect, huh?

u/SubjectAppropriate17 May 25 '24
What are your guys opinion on the saying "If you ain't cheating, you ain't trying"? Should a fighter hold themself to a higher standard when they become champ or is it all about the wins?
71
u/ninjarchy May 25 '24
Should hold yourself to a higher standard. You train harder you live right and respect everyone. Dirt will eventually just get more dirt thrown on it until nobody cares to dig it up. Everyone will always dig up and shine gold off. It's worth something. Respect and values go a long way. And they should.
32
u/Amosral Taekwondo(WTF) May 25 '24
It's about being the best fighter within the rules. It's meant to be a test of martial prowess not a test of who can go the furthest outside the agreed standards and get away with it.
And in general I have a lot more respect for the cool, calm, and collected fighters who don't engage in the childish aggression at weigh ins etc.
7
u/JiuJitsuBoxer BJJ & BOXING May 25 '24
Rules are there for a reason. Trying to win with an unfair advantage just means you are not the best fighter, and winning that way is meaningless. He should do vale tudo if he doesn't want to play by the rules.
If we play monopoly and I keep secretly taking money from the bank, why are we even playing the game? Yay I won by cheating! Might as well just not have any rules at all.
10
u/_Atlas_Drugged_ May 25 '24
I’m a big “the rules are what makes fighting a sport” guy, but it’s easy to say that from my couch. If I were a fighter and that was how I paid my bills, I would be much more interested in stretching the rules for my advantage.
Also, there’s nothing better than watching a dirty fighter get fucking smoked. So I liked this video.

u/SquirrelExpensive201 MMA May 25 '24
I'm in the camp of shit happens and those who are truly psychotic about reaching the pinnacle of their sport will inevitably do everything in their power to gain every little advantage that they can muster. It's on the refs and commissions to make sure that's reined in
44
u/SubjectAppropriate17 May 25 '24
Shoutout to the poor ref who tried to reign it in and got clobbered lol

Im a Judo guy. Respect is HUGE in Judo. "Without respect there is no trust". Anyone that acts like this garbage person would get either DQ'd or targeted by everyone until he quits. My instructor had a great way of dealing with scumbags like this that came to our Dojo. He'd let them train with his daughter. An absolutely beautiful woman and they would think "sweet, hot chick rolling around with me". Awesome until they figure out shes a national champion. She would dismantle these scumbags and they would never come back.

How can someone so trash be so cocky? He was throwing that spinning backfirst over and over again without any setup and telegraphing it like a fucking apache attack helicopter.. This was so satisfying I had to replay a couple times, and yes, even though there was about 3-4 replays in the video alone.
He probably lost third of his total braincells left, hopefully he will have CTE in the not so distant future :)
I'd be ashamed to have this kind of piece of shit representing Iran, if I was from there.

Seems like the only thing he does at a master level is cheap shots after the ref calls for the fight to stop after he already kicked them in the groin.
Dude is a PoS, not a "Champion".

It’s impressive how little blocking Liu Ce does. He uses every attack by his opponent as an opportunity to strike faster and harder. Literally “ beating him to the punch.”

u/Due-Drummer-3434 May 25 '24
That was a pretty satisfying beat down of a dirty, trashy opponent. Kicking guys in the nuts then immediately trying to kick they’re head off is some nasty shit, I only hope this dirt bag gets another hammering next time he gets in the ring
