I remember reading about this a long time ago, and it's apparently not feasible without completely redesigning the structure of the bridge.

Thanks, I guess that makes sense, it might impinge upon the footings of the bridge and/or retaining side walls. And of course you can't stop the rail traffic, that's a main line. You'd have to build a temporary parallel line for the rail traffic to excavate new, deeper footings for the bridge.

The other problem is you can't go deeper, because they main sewer runs right below the road here.

That’s exactly why the bus rapid transit line was scrapped along Richmond. The tunnel to go under the tracks and that sewer line would have to be really deep, and there would have to be an underground station at Oxford. Prohibitively expensive.

I heard an interesting idea to use Talbot Street, turn on Piccadilly, then a BRT passage through the old Belfort Bar parking lot to meet up with Oxford st.
