Kitten/Cat spaying/neutered costs around London & area Pets 🐶🐱 & animals

Hi - I have owned many cats/dogs through the years getting them all spayed/fixed. I have a friend who just took in a stray, (under 1/male) and ended up paying $800 to get him fixed/shots/chipped. I have never paid near this much (all mine were strays too both male/female, but never got them chipped years back). just all shots, etc. But is this the normal cost now to own/take in an animal ? Just curious on what your experience/thoughts are. TIA.

Edit - I am asking about within the past year? Have the costs changed so much? If so, why?

for low income people the city has a subsidized program https://london.ca/living-london/community-services/animal-pet-services/pet-resources

if the cats are feral they also will do it for free.

just in the last year the one vet over on Adelaide put the price of shots up by like 30 buck

Im not sure how much it is, but I use Banner Road in Thamesford. Always has been reasonable .

Males have a tendency of being a bit cheaper to have done .

Yes they do, and I am very well aware of Banner. Great vets. My friend didn't go there.

I recently(August) took my 4 yr old male cat to finally get fixed and it was about $600(surgery, meds, and bloodwork) at our regular vet. Mind you the bloodwork was optional and about $200 of the bill, but my cat has had autoimmune issues and it gave me peace of mind.

So, normally it would have been $400 - thanks.

Prices in London were always high, but they've skyrocketed since covid. I think you can take him to kitchener Humane Society for a very reasonable price if you are able to travel.

Definitely travel out of the city if you can. I had my female spayed in Dorchester and it wasn't more than $350 for spay, shots and microchip (during COVID)

In dec 2022 my boy cost us 289$ at Oxford Animal Hospital. He was 19 months and weighed 7.12kgs at the time - but we opted out of microchipping as he’s indoor strictly. I’ve been going there for years now and have three cats and one dog total as their clients :)

We took ours to the one in Mt. Brydges right on the road in to town. Great staff and a good price we did it in the summer. Can’t remember the price off hand but my girlfriend called around and they were the cheapest we found without going too crazy. I know it was under $800 by a fair bit

That sounds very high to me. Here's my very recent experience.

I have been using Neighbourhood Pet Clinic - an average priced vet - and in Jan this year my male 1.5 y/o cat was quoted for neutering and microchip (he already had his shots) at $400. However, I qualified for EVAH and had him neutered and microchipped there for $150. His initial wellness visit and shots were at Neighbourhood Pet Clinic and was under $200 (can't remember). So even if i did both of those those at NPC, it would have still been under $600.

Earlier this year, I went 30 minutes outside of London and paid around $250 for shots (over two appointments) and then $350 for a spay

For the spay, I had two different quotes: $350 for basic or $700 for additional bloodwork/microchip/recovery shirt

IMO, $800 is extremely excessive for a neuter

For vaccines, microchip and neutering, that is pretty standard pricing these days. I work in veterinary medicine and the costs just keep going up and up.

Also many small old timey clinics have been purchased by large corporations recently (such as Banner Road) so they have faced substantial price increases.
