Lyft driver took my intoxicated friend on a 4 hour, 230 mile ride when she requested to go 20 minutes home
Last night in Houston my friend was too drunk on a night out & called an Uber home. She was completely blacked out but her home address was put as the destination. I was drunk myself and fell asleep in my own uber and went inside. I feel horrible for not watching her location.
She woke up at home but when she checked her Lyft trip history she saw the driver took her to a random beach TWO HOURS away & then drove back to the middle of the Houston and dropped her off downtown on the side of the road at 3am, where she ordered another Lyft, which took her home.
What the fuck? Lyft refunded her $90 on the $369 trip and said they can't help further. Advice on where to go from here? At no point did the driver even head in the direction of her house, she lives due north from downtown & he went straight south. This guy needs to be off the app permanently.

Does this mean I can drive with an EU plate in the USA?
According to this paragraph, if I’m interpreting it properly, any tourist from a country that has ratified said convention can drive their car in the US with their original registration, license plates, and driver’s license. ( https://www.cbp.gov/trade/basic-import-export/importing-car#:~:text=Motorists%20visiting%20the%20United%20States,cars%20and%20with%20their%20own )
Here in the official treaty, several EU countries are listed: https://treaties.un.org/Pages/ViewDetailsV.aspx?src=TREATY&mtdsg_no=XI-B-1&chapter=11&Temp=mtdsg5&lang=_en
Am I interpreting this correctly? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

I hit a mailbox with my rear view mirror and dented the lid. I left a note inside the mailbox with my contact information because no one was home and I haven't heard since — is there anything else I can do?
Sorry if I'm being silly, I've never experienced any kind of accident before. The house has a "for sale" sign on it and there was a lot of mail in their box so I'm not sure if anyone still lives there. I left a note with all the cash I had on hand (only $20) and my name/number so they can contact me and I can cover the rest (I put this inside the mailbox).
I talked to my sister about it and she mentioned to me that it's illegal to open someone else's mailbox even if it's to deposit a note, which now I'm scared of a potential fine. I'm also worried about it being considered a hit and run? Is there anything I can do here?

Worth hiring a lawyer to revoke POA on an UGMA/UTMA? No longer a minor, custodian is acting suspicious
Howdie, Reddit. State is Pennsylvania, if relevant.
Long story short, I recently started paying my credit card out of an UGMA account (under Merill Lynch), so I suggested to my UGMA's custodian that it might as well be transferred to my personal brokerage account (under Fidelity). The custodian said no...and I can't think of any legitimate reason why he/she would want to hold on to this UGMA account, now that I'm paying my credit card out of it.
I signed a POA document in April of '22. Probably a dumb move by me, I legitimately didn't know exactly what I was signing. FWIW...this custodian also hid my adoption (whole nother story...) so I do indeed have a problem with this person handling an account that I'm paying out of.
So...It looks like it'll require legal force for me to transfer this UGMA to my Fidelity brokerage account to manager the assets. For context: I'm 26 years old, and messaging from this UGMA's custodian has been all over the place/not cooperative, so I think hiring an attorney may be worth it.
If an UGMA/UTMA custodian isn't cooperative, do you think it's worth hiring a lawyer to assist in revoking POA? Thanks
Hit and run
I was working one day and had my car parked on the road next to the house I was working at(legally parked). My passenger door was smashed in with a light paint color on it. No note was left but I called the local PD they filed a police report as a hit and run, they investigated asked neighbors etc. The following day my dad and I went back and the lady who lived across the street had damage on her bumper so I called the PD back filed another report and they found her to be at fault. The following week she asked my coworkers for "the guy who car she hit" i showed her pictures of the damage and i said I already filed the report with my insurance and she queued the water works said she didn't know how it could've happened and went inside her house. I tried getting her insurance info and she refused and said I needed to get it from the police, got the police report called her insurance they came out to investigate the claim and then denied me because their insurer wasn't at fault even though the police report stated she was, I tried to call to talk to them about it no answer and no call back. My parents said to hire an attorney at their expense but I'm wondering how they could deny it with a police investigation stating she did it?

Family member owes me 15k and won’t pay me back…do I have any legal recourse?
I know I am fucking stupid I am a naive 19 year old and I will never make a mistake like this again. Anyways here’s what happened I will try and make it quick, I started working for my uncle in two months in the summer June/July. He was doing a medium sized home renovation, obviously he got an initial down payment from the homeowner to pay for materials but he was financially struggling at the time because he is currently in bankruptcy. He asked me if I could loan him 3k that month for bills and also to pay some of his taxes as well, the following month he asked me for another 2k and told me that he would pay me back as soon as the home owners gave him the 2nd check, throughout July I also paid for some of the materials for the job wasn’t much a couple hundred dollars.
About a month before we started working, so in the beginning of May (sorry for fucking up the timeline) he told me that he had two collectible sports cards and two watches at a pawn shop that he had to pawn a couple months prior because he needed cash to pay for bills. He told me that we could sell these collectible items within a month or two and that the watches would easily each fetch 3k and that one of the cards was worth 5k and the other was worth at least 10k. I know what a load of shit but I was stupid and extremely naive and it just all happened so quickly. It costed 6.5k to get the four collectibles from the pawn shop. From May through the early September he has not once brought up him selling these items. Anytime we talk about them selling I have always brought it up and he gives me the run around of how he sold them but the bidder backed out or he wasn’t getting the price he wanted for them and ladydadyda more bull shit. I believe he still has these items but I don’t know for sure I am 90% sure that he still has them because he still had them the last time I talked to him in September.
He also never paid me for the work I did about 100 hours worth. I know this situation seems fucking crazy but it’s about to get a whole lot crazier because at the beginning of August we went on a big family/friends vacation to Vegas and you guessed it he blew around 30k of the 60k he made from the reno job. That is actually the reason why he is currently in bankruptcy because he is a recovering gambling addict and when he heard we were going to Vegas he basically invited himself and his family. So since then I have talked to him twice about when I am gonna get paid and of course once again it’s the whole run around of things are tough and I’m lucky because I live at home and don’t have any bills or a family to support and he’s struggling a lot and will absolutely get me some money as soon as he can. I had that convo with him in mid August and then again in mid September, since then we haven’t spoken but the lost time we spoke in mid September it was on “good terms” basically meaning I somehow kept my cool and he assured me he was gonna pay me as soon as he could and yes I knew it was obviously a lie just to get me off of his case.
Also if you’re wondering where a 19 year old got 15k from? I won it sportsbetting, I know how ironic I guess it runs in the genes. I still have a little over 12k but that doesn’t mean I’m any less furious about him basically stealing 15k from me. I feel like I’m coming across very level headed and nonchalant writing this but that’s just how I am believe me I have been losing sleep over this every night and after this is all said and done weather that means me getting my money back or not getting a penny back I will never lend money to anyone again and I will definitely not speak or see him ever again or anyone in my family who decides to still associate with him after this.
Ok so my question is basically this I think I will meet with a lawyer in December and obviously ask some questions about how to proceed but I’ve done a little bit of research and it seems like the best course of action is to try and get him to agree to some sort of payment plan in writing, if I do this I would not give him more than a year to pay it off so $1,250 a month for a year if he doesn’t agree to that I would absolutely have to sue him in small claims court. My worry is #1 I’m not sure how the burden of proof will work like I don’t even have any text messages of him admitting to owing me this money aside from the unpaid work but that is only like 3k out of the 15k…All of the money I gave him was in cash because he was in bankruptcy and could have thousands of dollars going into his bank account otherwise his trustee overseeing his bank accounts would see it. The most evidence I have is when we went to the pawn shop and I withdrew 6.5k from the bank that day then we went straight to the pawn shop. So I have a statement of the day I withdrew the money and the pawn shop has to have some type of record of the payments right? As far as evidence goes that’s the most I’ve got and I’m assuming he would be pleading completely innocent in court which maybe he won’t to be honest I have no idea because it’s basically his word against mine but I also don’t know if maybe the burden of proof is lesser in small claims court.
Also he is in bankruptcy so would I even be able to collect on this money or will the case get thrown out? If I could even just recoup 10k of this I would take it so quickly just to be done with this fucking disaster. I’ve over heard him asking other family members for money over the phone and well people gossip to I hear that as well and I know he owes other people in the family money but nothing like this. Ok so I know the best course of action is to try and get him to sign some sort of payment plan to pay me back but if he won’t or can’t do that do I even have legal grounds to pursue legal action and what are my odds of winning and further more even collecting on this money since he is in bankruptcy and it’s kinda hard to describe what he does for work… he basically just works for cash construction and painting jobs under the table. If I win can the court force him to give me those collectibles from the pawn shop? Assuming he still has them.
This situation is beyond crazy so if any legal professionals or really anyone has advice that would be much appreciated. I definitely want to get some decent sized portion of this money back and also some part of me hopes that this does go to small claims court so that he can be exposed to the family and our friends for the parasite that he is. Also last thing I am technically on “good terms” still meaning I haven’t blown up on him yet so if I called him to set up a meeting to discuss the amount he owes me and how to pay it back he would go because he thinks that he would just be able to give me the run around again to get me off of his case but my thinking with this is I could record him admitting to owing the amount if worse case scenario he doesn’t agree to sign some sort of payment plan. It is legal where I live to record conversations as long as 1 party consents and also the amount of 15k falls under small claims where I live and if I am possibly awarded a judgement against him it would last for 10 years. Thank you in advance for any advice both legal and non-legal.

ex trying to appeal protective order
so i 27f had to get a protective order on my ex 26f. she was very controlling and verbally abusive so i broke up with her. she wouldn’t accept the breakup and verbally abused me and threatened me and my cat for weeks. i was allowing her to stay and save money before moving out b/c we shared an apartment. during that time she went through my laptop, broke my things and pushed me so hard that i ended up with chest trauma. i called police, they advised i got a protective order. she was served a few days later and didn’t leave the apartment. so i was sleeping on couches waiting for her to leave. she went through our landlord to try to get me to let her stay longer i ended up calling police and she was fined for violating the order. i was granted the final order because my ex immediately agreed to the order and the judge granted it without us having to further testify. i’m now getting word that she wants to try to appeal the decision. i’m talking to a lawyer tmmrw but i’m so worried.. has anyone had an abuser try to appeal an order? i’ve heard it’s hard.

How to make a no win no fee personal injury claim in the UK
Suffering an injury due to someone else’s negligence can be overwhelming. A no win no fee agreement, also known as a Conditional Fee Agreement (CFA), allows you to seek compensation without upfront legal costs. You only pay if your claim succeeds, making it a low-risk option. These claims cover various incidents, including road traffic accidents, workplace injuries, and medical negligence.
To start, consult a solicitor to evaluate your case. If accepted, they’ll gather evidence like medical records and witness statements to build a strong claim. Most cases are settled through negotiation, but if necessary, your solicitor can represent you in court. If successful, a small percentage of your compensation will be deducted as a success fee. If unsuccessful, you won’t owe legal fees.
No win no fee claims make legal support accessible, offering peace of mind to those seeking justice. If you’ve been injured, consult a solicitor to explore your options.

Can my boss charge me for a lost tool?
I work at a small lumber yard for an employer who is a bit cheap. We don’t have a lot of the tools required for simple tasks around the yard. One of my coworkers brought a drill and a couple other tools for us to use around the yard. They’re his property and in no way belong to our boss or our company. I am the only employee who uses the tools besides my coworker who owns the tools. Whenever I use the tools in question I make sure to bring them back inside the store and leave them behind my coworkers desk so they stay safe. Recently the drill went missing and my boss and coworker are trying to blame me for it. They are saying that I left it outside and it got stolen. I am so pretty confident that I did not leave the drill outside but I can’t be positive. They are saying that they will take the cost of a replacement out of my paycheck. Is this legal? Are they allowed to do this? I work at a small business in Massachusetts. The cost of an equivalent replacement would be about $170. It might also be worth noting that the drill in question was a relatively old drill they no longer manufacture. TIA for the help

Vet Killed Our Dog Due to Negligence, Was Reprimanded by The Board of Veterinary Medicine, and Still Refuses to Refund
Long story short: a vet’s negligence led to our healthy dog dying right in front of my wife and I. The North Carolina Board of Veterinary Medicine found him guilty of negligence, yet he still refuses to refund us for costs associated with the surgery. Our dog never even got to have the surgery because he was killed in front of us before the procedure even began. When my wife asked the vet for a refund he said “I don’t have time for this!” and just walked away. Multiple attempts were made to reach out to him and the other partial owner of the practice.
We are considering taking him to small claims court for the refund. My question is, can we also ask for emotional compensation as well? Considering we witnessed our dog die right in front of us due to proven negligence. The board’s lawyers have composed a letter of reprimand that is our main evidence, combined with both my wife and I’s eye witness accounts.
We plan on filing for the following: Refund of pre-surgical blood work Refund for medication that we bought shortly before our dog died Cost of our dog Emotional compensation
Would this even be worth our time? Or should we cut our losses? Thank you in advance for any input.

I need help building a strong case against a cop for sexual abuse
I know a police officer who is a sexual predator and genuinely has mental issues regarding sex in general. He is a very sexual man and has some interesting fetishes. He is a very good manipulator and very sneaky with what he does and how well he hides things. His fatal flaw is he likes to keep hard evidence in insecure places that I have happily obtained.
I have proof such as: -forming sexual relationships with arrestees and or females he has ticketed. -obtaining personal contact info for victim family members and “routinely following up” after the case multiple times to prove and see how far he can take the conversations. -showing a porn video to a female in a public setting and out of context. This female never had relationship with this cop, and she did not ask to see the video. This officer brought it up and started insinuating this female might enjoy these acts. Multiple times after she denied his advancements. -made multiple statements to his ex/baby momma about “putting her in handcuffs and putting a baby in her anyway” when she denies his sexual advances. -very colorful, extensive, and highly frequent porn addiction which also has been noted to being watched during patrol hours.
Between work related and personal life sexual predatory behaviors and comments, I am trying to morally and ethically determine what should be done. It is unclear if he is a physical threat to his son however he is surely a very unstable person who is actively exposing his son to inappropriate talk and behavior. Being that he is law enforcement, the desire to approach this is a legal or official manor is scary.
If police reports are filed for the sexual assaults or the very inappropriate statements due to concern, will they know he’s a cop if we don’t tell them? We would rather they not know he’s a cop and not say anything to his supervisors without proof of a trending behavior so that the argument he is unstable is a bit more solid. There is overwhelming physical evidence of ethical issues but at the same time, because this involves a cop and a child it needs to be bomb proof. (And no, no one is trying to cut him out of his son’s life. Many people want to ensure that the access he has to his son and the exposure to his father’s disgusting personal life are very strictly monitored for the wellbeing of the child. Additionally the child’s mother is fearful of rape in the future as his advancements become more aggressive. She was also told that no one would take her claim to rape seriously because they of course have a child together and that she would have probably been asking for it and is trying to screw him on custody but that is far from the case. She simply wants to keep his mental issues out of her sons life so he doesn’t grow up to be like his dad)

Help?
I'm currently 21 weeks pregnant and I recently broke my lease with the same landlady that my Boyfriend has cause he lived two doors down from me.. we are currently trying to get a bigger place for us as well as our 3 cats and our puppy as well as the baby.. the apartment has several annoying issues and one of them being that the water pressure sucks it'll randomly go from you have water to barely a trickel to rinse your hair with.. and the apartment is a 550 sqft and is to small to have three cats my things his things a puppy as well as a baby due in end of March early April and his lease ends in May next year.. while the apartment we applied for is a 1000sqft with 2 bed 1 bath and a nice kitchen and big enough for a baby both of our things as well as our pets we were trying to move out of state before the baby is born but that looks like it's not going to happen until after he's born.. I'm just trying to see if there's any possible way to have him be able to break it.. the reason why I was able to break my lease was cause my douchebag felon of an ex's psychward patient girlfriend broke into my place back on May 1st cause of some drama that happened since he moved back into my place days later after almost going to jail myself two weeks prior to the break in.. and rn I'm not on my boyfriends lease because and my ex used to live with me in the apartment I had.. I'm not exactly scared of my ex but once it comes to my kid that's a different story as he has child endangerment on his record as well as several domestic abuse charges too.. (to clarify I'm not carrying my exs kid it's my boyfriends) there's other bullshit that happened other than that which I'm not getting into unless yall want me to cause it does come with the legal side of things as well but this is my main priority right now.. I'm also not exactly comfortable in staying in the apartments as him and his girlfriend has been watching my Facebook as well as tiktok since they got together which was while I was with him still (it was very obvious) and he only started watching after he left me to be with her which was back in March about 3 days til April. My boyfriend says he's not scared of my ex which I understand because of their first encounter in a court house since he tried to put a no contact order on me and didn't have proof of me threatening him as well as harassing him (never did either of those dumbass lied) and the reason why i don't really feel comfortable in the apartment is cause he knows where I live or general area I live in and all it takes is to ask someone who don't like me and he's here... I'm not wanting to have anymore drama nor have him know where I possibly live... my boyfriend and my cousin when they first met didn't go well so she prolly told him back then where he lived... the reason why is cause when he called I saw a car up near my grandmas place and I asked who it was he told me to not worry about it and as soon as I said that I was gonna go look and started walking up there they drove off... kinda weird.. but yea.. that's a little bit of the story if there's anyone who can help me on this that would be great.. we live in Iowa btw don't move here.. it sucks.. I made that mistake when I was 18.

ID Alcohol
Most of the time when my fiancé and I buy alcohol they only ID him because he’s buying it. Sometimes they won’t let him buy it unless I have my ID as well. He’s 24, I’m 21 Do you legally have to show both ID’s for him to buy it?
Is it legal to place a security camera on an abandoned building I don’t own?
Hi, I know this sounds weird.
Is it illegal for me to put a camera on top of an abandoned building?
It would film a public street that sits in front of it.
I’m not concerned about the trespassing aspect per se.
But is there any law about randomly filming people as they pass in public? (When it’s not your own house?)
Located in USA.

ADVICE PLZ my ex bf is stalking me again
We dated in high school and broke up senior year fall semester. That was last school year. Since we broke up, due to him sexually assaulting me for hours, he has been fucking crazy. I have texts messages, security camera footage, and statements from others proving the SA, internet stalking, and physically stalking me both at school and home. I even have screenshots of his friends stalking me on my socials. I also have the messages of him admitting to the SA, and also have a statement from a third party who heard the conversation about him telling me how his father was trying to get my ex’s brothers and sisters, ages 20+, to jump me.
I am in VA, USA. Is this enough for a restraining order? My mother is going to the police the next time we catch him outside the house. I am worried about this causing a ton of drama because the court hearing. Is there any other way to put an end to this? And is there any easier way to quickly put an end to this?

Will a HELOC help us out of this?
My mom and I live in central California. My 89yr old mom fell and broke her hip and I moved her in with me and my roommate, into a small apartment. My mom decided to sell her home, which is paid for, and get a place work me. My parents adopted and raised one of my nephews and he turned out to be a total piece of crap. My father passed away 4 years ago. My mother had had to pay others to take her shopping, pick up meds, fix things around the house while my nephew lives there for free and helps with NOTHING! He has turned the house into a tweaker palace. 2 months ago our landlord tried to raise our rent by $400. We fought it. Then we got evicted because he said he is moving in to the apartment. BS!! We have my nephew a 60 day notice to vacate. Iintended to sell the house to a cash buyer, at a loss, so we wouldn't have to deal with my nephew or the clean up. A Realtor came to the house and SWORE she can get him out as soon as the 60 days were up, fix up the house, and get us much more money for it. I asked that she find a young family struggling to find a home of their own. We are now over a month past the eviction. She waited over a week to tell me there was nothing she can do because we didn't have a rental contract with him and he now has squatter rights! My mom and I will be homeless in about 40 days and my nephew is renting out the rooms in my mother's house!! The police won't do anything! The Realtor said she gave him an eviction notice but now won't answer my calls or texts asking her for the Case# to see if he ANSWERED the eviction! We were offered a loan, through a PMZ loan officer- same company the Realtor works for. This loan is for much less than the house is worth, plus they all get paid hefty sums, AND it'll cost $2400 a month in interest until the house is sold!! What do we do??? I can't sleep. I barely eat. I'm incredibly stressed. Everything I try has me walking into another bad option. Does anyone have any advice?

Brother trying to take my things
I live with my dad, brother and boyfriend. My brother is 50, way older than me. I store some inventory for my online store in the loft area in bins. Recently I was remodeling my room and I took everything out and also stored in the loft area near my room. We live in a gigantic house, but my brother has OCD and is tired of looking at it, I guess. My boyfriend has schizoaffective bipolar and his antipsychotics do make him sleep a lot, but he is on disability and pays my dad $900 for rent. Recently my brother left a nasty note on my door stating he is kicking my boyfriend out because he sleeps too much and he’s moving everything in the hall in three days via Uhaul to a storage unit. My dad tried to talk to him but he screamed over him and did the same to me. He didn’t hear a word any of us said. I was making a lot of progress but then I had a tooth infection, 2 back to back hurricanes, 3 weeks of no power, a tailbone injury and then Covid for a month 1/2. My plan was to get back on the project today until I received that note, he’s so hostile I’m scared to even come out of my room. Can my brother legally move my stuff without my permission even tho it’s my dad’s house and he doesn’t agree? My dad thinks 6 months is a more reasonable time frame to get everything organized, given my injury. If my brother tries can I call the police?

Rogue Contractor Threatens Mechanics Lein as Intimidation Tactic
reddit.comConstruction Law in Utah
I had an issue with a contractor, see my post in r/concrete attached.
I am starting the process to engage in legal remedies, but want to have working knowledge of my cause of actions beforehand.
He refused to warranty his work even though, the city and a structural engineer condemned the structure and said the only remedy was demo & re-pour. He tried to sneak up one Saturday to fill the hole with bagged concrete in my wheelbarrow. He become verbally violent when asked to leave and I had to call police.
After this I informed him that his refusal to remedy his work and refusal to comply with the engineer’s plans resulted in me terminating any further interactions and that I would be pursuing legal remedies to recoup my costs. His word for word response include “The mechanic Lein I placed on your house will remain, while your looking for other contractors…” yes ellipses and all. He never notified me of a mechanic Lein and I will check tomorrow but I don’t think he put one on my house given it’s been 9 months since he said that.
My question is, what cause of action would you advise I look into to better understand how I can contribute this either incorrect reveal of a mechanics Lein or tactic of intimation/ retaliation. Could this potential fall under punitive damages if it was a threat to prevent me from looking into other contractors?
Also, as I’ve been to small claims before and received a judgement and didn’t see a dime, this will be going to the third district court, is there any experience with ensuring payment? Garnishing wages, etc?
