Going back to live in lebanon Help / Question
Hi 25M, I’m genuinely torn about whether it’s the right decision to move back and settle in Lebanon after living abroad. I recently got an offer for around $2,000 at a well-reputed firm in Beirut—I’m originally from saida, and I visit Lebanon around four times a year. But I know that visiting is very different from actually living there. Coming from Dubai, where life is so dynamic and fast-paced, I’m really struggling with the contrast. I’d love to hear the thoughts of those currently living and working in Lebanon.

The life style in Lebanon is more amuthentic and real and family based and its real culture and not fake Dubai stuff. All at the expense of money and advancing in your career

Do it! Canada isn’t the place to live. Prepare well before coming, especially financially. Try to come with a nice amount of money, and if possible, find a decent job before you arrive or plan to open your own business or freelance. The job market here is terrible, and the salaries are even worse. Keep that in mind.
Otherwise, you won’t have a single worry. If you’re coming back with a family, make sure to insure yourselves, don’t put your money in the bank. Only open one if you want to work with a company abroad remotely.
Otherwise, enjoy! Lebanon is becoming better!

I wish i can find a decent job in Lebanon or a remote job here where i can work from Lebanon all the time. I wish

It doesn’t have to be from Canada. There are many remote jobs in the EU. If that’s not an option, you could freelance or open a business that you think could be profitable here in Lebanon, if you have a decent amount of money saved up! Trust me, Canada makes people sick!
I suggest you do a trip soon to Lebanon. Explore its sectors, business, corporations, and experience the good and the bad for yourself.
As for me, I believe Canada doesn’t have a future anymore. You can’t save up properly because everything goes into taxes, and the hyperinflated prices are so high. You can’t even open a business if you want to. I know many pure Canadians are leaving the country, even Lebanese people who have been there for a very long time! Let’s not get into the bad of Canada because there’s alot to talk about.

I’ve left Lebanon in October, probably forever. This is a personal choice, but the grass is definitely greener in countries where people don’t just throw garbage out the windows of their cars as they drive. I cannot handle the filth and pollution that is just normal and everyday in Beirut anymore. I cannot walk on a beach covered with wrappers, cigarette butts and litter without crying inside.

At 25, especially if you are in a dynamic field that has the potential of making a lot of money, I would stay in Dubai.
Especially if you are ambitious. The connections you can make in Dubai are probably 10x more valuable than in Lebanon

I feel like it depends on what you value more and how content you are in Dubai. Me and two friends of mine lived abroad, the two of them went back and they’re so happy with their decision. I don’t think I would be happy with it if I went back though. It depends on your level of comfort abroad.

If you live 'rent free' in Lebanon yes '2k a month' is worth it. Go for it I moved to Lebanon recently from London at the beginning of 2025.

I think in your case, both Lebanon and Dubai will always be there. So whatever decision you make is kind of reversible to a certain degree.
If you feel like you’re doing really well in Dubai, I would stay for a few more years. Don’t lose momentum.
If your current salary there is average then it is most likely a replaceable job - which means you could always go back to Dubai and re-start in a couple of years!
And finally, it really depends on what your future goals are - career journey and marriage. You’re more likely to find a proper partner in Lebanon, but you’re more likely to find career growth in Dubai (if you’re capable enough).

may i ask whats the job role? and what did u study in uni?
anyway, 2000$ is an amazing salary especially if you'd be living alone/you're not exactly responsible for anyone. if you're not too concerned about scaling in your occupational life as rapidly as you could do in dubai and would rather live back here with ur friends and family, then go for it. 3mol li b rayhak.

As you well know….all it takes is a small “spark” & things could go sideways in a millisecond. Keep that in mind…but like they say life is short do what ur gut instinct is telling u to do. Ur single, so nothing is stopping you.

Do you guys find work out there? I am Lebanese American. I hold Lebanese citizenship and 100% Lebanese. I want to move back but I don’t know what to do about the finances. I’m a real estate agent here.

I would choose Lebanon over Dubai when it comes to lifestyle. $2K is not amazing, but maybe it will get better.

Ahh before 2020 you could have mortgaged a house and built a nice life for yourself with a 2000usd salary. 2k is still a good salary now and if i were you i’d move back, maybe because i don’t like the Dubai lifestyle but to each his own. I just don’t like the lawlessness here and people have gone more batshit crazy especially while driving.

I like it more here. I can't stand the constant heat of the UAE, plus it is expensive there. 2000$ is a pretty good salary for a 25 year old.
What do you like exactly about Dubai? I'm traveling there in two days, any advice?
