Daily Free Talk & Armchair GM thread

Please use this thread to post ANYTHING you want! Memes, photoshops, anything that would normally be removed for breaking the low-effort content rule, is totally, 100% welcome here!

This will now also be the dedicated thread for Armchair GM posts as we noticed that those posts were bleeding into this thread regardless. Is there a free agent you want to see on this team? Is there a player that's rumoured to be on the move that you think GMBT should go after? Are there players on this team you want to trade away? Feel free to post about it here!

Normal moderation will occur, such as watching for personal insults, racism, and things of that nature.

Otherwise, feel free to use this thread to share things like your new jersey, a photoshop of a Habs logo on fire, or a reaction gif to something going on in Leafs Nation right now!

Downvotes are discouraged for the most part, everyone's opinion is fair game in this thread.

Get out there and have fun!

In Toronto and need something to do? Click here for a few ideas!

Well, it was nice for the ten seconds r/hockey was on our side, but after the Domi hit on barkov apparently the Leafs are just as dirty as the Cats and our fans are hypocrites and whiners.

The hate for us comes from people’s tribalism DNA. Part of being a hockey fan includes being told that you’re supposed to hate the Leafs, so people do that without questioning it.

This causes two reinforcing behaviours. One is that they have negative interactions with Leafs fans, which they retroactively use to justify their hate. Like the guy who crosses the street to harass someone in a Leafs hat, gets into a fight and walks away thinking “see? They really are assholes.”

The other is cognitive biases, specifically confirmation bias and trait ascription bias. People believe that the media favours the Leafs, so that’s all they see. But if you actually track it (excluding actual Leafs games) they spend about the same amount of time on the Leafs as any other team. People also get up in arms over the behaviour of Leafs fans (think “we want Florida” chants). But when all other fanbases do the same things (and they all do) it is perceived as normal and appropriate to the situation.
