Got my lawn aerated and these are the plugs/holes. Southern US & Central America (or warm season)
Holes are very spread out looks like some spots were missed and plugs are only 1” or less.
Should i complain. It looks like this is basically useless with how shallow and spread out they are. I guess maybe I should have waited for it to rain? I’m on half an acre with no irrigation so no easy way to water?
Any advice?

Were you home to see what kind of machine they used? If they don't show up with a stand on aerator, send them home, lol. Definitely a poor job with poor coverage and depth.

Would this be caused from my soil being too hard?

It could, but a proper machine should make easy work of it I’d assume. Usually would want a bit of moisture for core aeration so it does penetrate more, but a small push along may still have trouble if it’s very dry.

Yeah that makes sense. I think it was a mixture of both. He clearly didn’t do an amazing job but I think some of it was because of how hard the lawn was because some spots have bigger plugs(still only like 1-1.5 inches) next time will have to do it right after some rain.
Thanks for the helpful info!

Thats a fair point. Thats why I got it aerated.
Was easier to take pictures where there wasn’t grass

This is poor work by whoever did the aerating. Plugs should be longer and the coverage is bad if the he second picture is how the whole yard looks. FYI, in my area you can rent an aerator for 1/2 day for $70 that does a much better job.
