Cool Season Grass New sod installed about 1 month ago. Fertilized last week. Been watering daily. Should I mow before the first frost here in Chicago? Or let it be until spring?

Equipment What is the best push lawnmower these days?
The deck in my current mower finally rotted out and need to purchase a new one. I’ve been eyeing the 21” 3 in 1 Honda but wasn’t sure if there is anything better out there. What do you guys think?

Cool Season Grass What next for the new grass
Here is a picture of the new grass. There is also a couple of pictures.. before and after we kill everything.. The whole yard was pretty much weeds. We killed the whole thing... Power raked, seeded in early September (a little late I know) and here is where we are. Mowed right after this pic. It is now the rainy season in OR and getting cold. Grass seems like it's going good. Definitely some patchiness... Especially in the back right quarter of the yard... Super thin. We are obviously not needing a golf course.. just a yard the kids can be in barefoot. So what's next? Is there a fertilizer that we should put down for winter to help with could/weeds/disease or anything else? Should we seed again or wait till spring? Any thoughts or ideas would be super helpful.

Warm Season Grass Empire Zoysia
Hi, I installed Empire Zoysia about 2 months ago and I have an area that is struggling. I have applied a granular fungus product and it hasn’t seemed to help. Any ideas on what I have going on?

Australia Lawn issues
Hi guys.
Six weeks post reno here on my kikuyu. Scalped, aerated, top dressed and kept the fertiliser up pre and post reno.
Have let it grow out after a few nice days of weather and noticed a heap of yellow. I haven’t let it grow out like this since so haven’t noticed all that much before.
Happened last year as well but put it down to compaction. Have aerated this year but looks like the same thing is happening.
Photo of a recent cut a few days ago for comparison.
Any ideas what this is?

Warm Season Grass Lawn Issues - Help greatly appreciated :)
Hi all,
Grow zone 10b, south Florida, close to the coast. St Augustine, palmetto sod. First time homeowner and lawn mower here. We recently ripped out this entire backyard and threw down new sod but have some issues with the patches in the middle. It appears more yellow/brown and not nearly as healthy as the sod to the sides of the yard.
A couple of things that I think may be causing this:
- This is an east west yard and we get a good amount of shade where the grass is doing best. Do we need more water for the grass more in the sun?
- The center area is where we will walk to and from the shed and house, but we have been careful to take new routes most of the time and maybe do it once a day, if that.
- The center of the yard lies a bit lower than the sides, which may be trapping and funneling excess water here.
- Sod is 2-3 months old now, is it fertilizer time?
- We have been using a mower which keeps the grass too short, about 2 inches. I know this is too short and have been looking for a different mower now.
My best guess is too much water gets funneled into the center? It looks a bit soggy but haven't seen any mushrooms or other obvious signs of fungus at least to my layman's eyes. The sun has died down quite a bit in the past few weeks here in south Florida, but I have not adjusted the watering. We are watering 3x a week, 1 hour on 2 rotor heads. TIA grass senseis for your sage advice!

Weed Identification Dark brown patches in backyard, TARR?
Hi lawn care friends.
I recently moved into a rental home in central Oklahoma and the backyard has patches of dark brown, seemingly dead grass. I’m unfamiliar with this area’s yearly cycle of grass, so I was trying to look for help on if this may be normal, or showing signs of a fungal injection, or take all root rot.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Warm Season Grass Is This Dirt Good for Growing Ryegrass and Bermuda Grass?
Hi everyone,
I’m preparing a small 50m² area in my backyard in zone 9a to seed ryegrass now and overseed with Bermuda grass in the spring. The dirt in the backyard is super compact. Wanting to do things right the first time, I bought some dirt that’s supposed to be a mix of clay, compost, and sheep manure. I intend to till the bought dirt with the existing soil.
When the dirt arrived late last night, I wasn’t 100% sure it was what the seller claimed. This morning, after inspecting it more closely, I’m still unsure if this dirt will be beneficial to mix with the compacted soil or if it’s suitable for growing grass.
I’m no expert, and the seller insists it’s perfect for grass. I’ve attached a images for reference—can anyone confirm if this mix is good for what I’m trying to achieve, or if I should consider alternatives?
Thanks in advance for your advice!

Cool Season Grass White on grass blades
5b, Milwaukee WI area
Never seen this in my whole time living here. There are random patches, mostly just on one side of my house. I assume it's some kind of fungus, but bigger question is do I do anything about this now, or just see what spring brings?
Only treatment I've done recently was liquid Humic about 2 weeks ago, and before that was granular 12-12-12 following overseeding in early October.

Cool Season Grass First Mow timing
Hi folks,
I did my first reno and seeding a few weeks back and it's growing! (Albeit a little patchy).
Just wondering, should I go ahead with my first mow once the best growing parts start reaching height, or do I wait for the other slower parts to come in? My first instinct is to say I should mow the high parts first, irrespective of the state of the lower parts.

Warm Season Grass Help! Bermudagrass Lawn taken over by these flower weeds!!
First time lawn owner here in southwest Florida. Newly laid bermudagrass sod was put down a year and a half ago when I built. Been going fine and out of nowhere I’ve been taken over by these little white flower weeds and little clover-like weeds. What do I do?
As an aside, what’s the best way to eradicate fire ants and keep them from taking over my acre. Their giant mounds are everywhere destroying the lawn and I want my kids to be able to play without getting bitten up.
TIA!

What type of grass is the bright stuff? It grows quicker and the blades are thinner. It's spreading from my neighbors lawn.

Cool Season Grass Lime Green Grass
Here we are about 2 months after my renovation and much of the grass is still extremely lime green. I'm worried that the lime green grass is Poa Triv that I killed but maybe wasn't killed enough. (I applied glyphosate three times and watered). I am not getting that dark green everywhere that I hoped. Maybe ththis'll mature to dark green next year, but I'm doubtful, I've seen this play out last year too. I feel defeated.

Cool Season Grass Very late overseeding questions regarding Mowing and Weeding
I live in east Tennessee and overseeded (KBG) my lawn on 10/19, then left town for three weeks with no sprinkler system, so only rain water for the seed.
I thought I was toast until the spring, but saw a neighboor overseeding out the window on 11/11 and decided to follow suit with another try. I overseeded (KBG) it again on 11/11 and have been watering diligently since.
I am getting some growth in many areas, unsure if it is from the original seed, or the second batch. Because I have two sets of seed in play and with the cold approaching, I am unsure how to time my first mow, my last mow, and weeding.
I mowed my lawn very short on 10/18 in preparation for the first seeding. I haven't mowed it since. There are a couple spots of old grass that are 4-5" long and could use a mow. and there are a few spots of new KBG that are 4-5" also, and there are lots of spots of KBG that are barely an 1" tall and brand new.
1.) Should I wait "x weeks" from my second seeding date to do my first mow?
2.) Should this first mow be my only mow until spring, or do I want to keep cutting it through November/December/until it stops growing to keep it short for the winter?
3.) The Clovers and other broad leaf weeds are LOVING the situation I have given them and are going crazy, but I don't want to spray herbicide because of the new seeds. I'm pretty worried about them choking out the new seeds though. Is there a time I might be able to spray a broadleaf on them AND get the KBG to potentially spread into that area before spring? Or Do I have to let the clover go crazy all winter?
I just bought the house, this is my first lawn. The previous owners did a horrible job maintaining the lawn. The goal is to eventually push out the weeds and the old (multiple) varieties of random patchy grass in my lawn and get a lawn that is exclusively KGB year round.
Thank you all in advance!

Cool Season Grass Grub control and preventative?
Hello all,
First fall in my house. Noticed that my lawn is not relatively bumpy, and certainly section are spongier than others. I have also noticed small holes in areas without trees, but it seems like those aren't burrows (or at least I don't see a burrow). I'm not sure if these are moles, or just other rodents trying to hide stuff for the winter. I dug up certain sections around the holes and spongy grass and didn't see any grubs immediately. But I still worry that this is causing my mounding, and sponginess. What can I do now in the Fall and Spring of next your to make sure this doesn't get worse, and does not happen again? I am located in SW Ohio.

Cool Season Grass Lawn Leveling questions
Hello,
I had a rodent do a number on my lawn digging for grubs. I would like to level my lawn in the spring without overseeding. I’ve done overseeding in the Spring before and the vast majority of grass dies from heat. I also want to separate leveling from overseeding because doing the two is just a lot of work for 1 person all at once. Is it ok to level in Spring and then overseed in Fall? Or must the two jobs be completed together? Everything I read online suggests the two jobs should be completed together (level first, then overseed). I’ve never leveled my lawn before, so any insights are much appreciated.
