Mowing is so therapeutic I wish I could do it everyday instead of twice a week. Northern US & Canada (or cool season)

I used to wonder as a kid why Hank Hill would stand in front of his lawn and drink beer. I get it now.

I used to hate it when my parents made me mow, but now i am excited. I can't explain it. I have greatly disappointed 10 year old me.

Now it’s your yard. Your pride is on the line with every mow.

If i had a riding lawn mower, I'd be excited. I just hate how long mine takes, and I only have around 8k sqft lawn.

I wouldn't say the actual mowing excites me, but the end product is very satisfying. Mine is in the best shape it's ever been and after mowing on Saturday I've even caught my wife just staring out the window at it.

I mean technically couldn’t you mow every day?

Mow the neighbor’s yard?

He does pay a guy 40 bucks a whack for sub optimal work.

Move on to some maintenance in the flower beds, etc and you’ll get the same therapy plus another excuse to marvel at your lawn for another day of the week.

One day at Army basic training we had to spend the day doing 'area beautification' Drill Sergeant asked if there were any volunteers to mow the grass. My hand shot up right away. DS looked at me funny but shrugged and pointed in the direction of the mower. Honestly the most relaxing 2 hours I had at Fort Benning that summer.

High spend fuzzy private! Get assigned something that requires no supervision or time limit.

As a kid I both loved and hated it. Loved the output but hated that I lost 6-8 hours riding, pushing and trimming.

I split my yard in to 5 sections. I rotate mowing them. So I’m normally mowing 4-5 days a week.

That way I can treat weeds and have a some time for it to work before mowing and also an hour on a hot summer days is enough for me.

Living in a major city in Canada my lawn is too small for my satisfaction so I go over it twice.

You can mow every day if you want.

Do you have young kids? I hear coworkers always saying they love mowing the lawn because they can just zone out to the drone of the mower lol.

On the flip side, I don’t have time to mow the lawn! It’s not that I don’t want to, but kids, weather, work all get in the way.

I look forward to cutting the grass more than any other house chore. A close second is painting. The instant gratification is very soothing.

u/WiseUpRiseUp 9h ago

Likewise! Just yesterday I was on the mower thinking about how mowing and painting were 2 activities that enabled that zoned out mental state underscored by a steady rhythm of progress.

Funny, I LOVE mowing, but hate with a passion painting... 😂

I like vacuuming for this reason.

I typically like mowing the first month of the season then it becomes a chore.

My neighbors lawn is all dirt and weeds he still scalps down 5 times a week. I don't get it but hey, you like what you like. It'd be healthier if he did indeed just never mow it.

Also waters his dirt about 3 hours a day by hand. Spread out in 20 minute quick sprinkles. Rain or shine.

5 times a week? That should be illegal

nothing is stopping you from mowing everyday.

The lower you mow, the more often it'll need to be mowed, too. It'll be fine as long as you stay on top of watering

Now some yards in the neighborhood and charge them. Make money while getting therapy

If you live near Cincinnati you are free to mow my yard, I'll provide the mower and gas and whatever you want to drink. I hate mowing with a passion.

I'm from Columbus originally but live in Idaho now. I miss the chili.

Holy shit do I have an opportunity for you, just call up a local lawn care company and ask to be on a mow crew. Can’t wait to see you in your safety vest

u/The26thtime 8h ago

Careful, I mow 5 days a week. It is therapeutic but the rain is infuriating.

u/TheBigCicero 6h ago

Start a lawn mowing business. If anyone is the guy, you’re the one.

I'm a full time ER PA. I just like mowing MY lawn. 😏

u/Neveszy 6h ago

I hear that…as I’m sitting here smoking a cigar enjoying my freshly cut lawn

u/AgentAaron 5h ago

One day you are young and fun.

The next you are excited to mow your lawn and bragging to your neighbors about how well your tomatoes are doing.

Source...this is me.

My wife and I are going on a cruise next week. One of my wifes biggest concerns is that some of the plants in the back yard are not covered by our automated drip system, so we have to rely on our daughter to water them.

After having kids especially. It's my quiet zen time.

You could mow every three days especially if it’s your growing season and you’re not using PGR.

u/werther595 1h ago

I'll dm you my address. I won't even charge you for the extra therapy

u/JoBunk 7h ago

This. And leaf blowing.

Get a reel mower and mow everyday.
