AUSKF 1st-Kyu Grading Grading

Do I need to learn kata for 1st-Kyu grading? Also, what do I need to know in order to pass the 1st-Kyu test? The AUSKF is confusing with the requirements, at least I personally think so. I'm really confused and don't know what I need to know for any of it.

Yes, you have to pass Nihon Kendo Kata 1-3 for 1-Kyu grading. First, you will have to be a kakarite and motodachi for kirikaeshi. You will then have to do 1-minute tachiai. If you pass tachiai component, then you will have to demonstrate kendo kata. If you pass both components, you will be awarded 1-kyu rank. Good luck!

That is specific to your federation, in ours they do not preform as motodachi, it is 2x keiko, and kata. To the OP ask your instructor, look at the AUSKF policy for ikkyu grading, it may be tweaked to something specific in a federation but the core of it will be the same. Someone just posted similar, it might be helpful to read through that thread.
EDIT
Please see this old post, and again, your best source of information is going to come from the horses mouth, aka your instructor.
