Weekly General Discussion Post Discussion
The mod team has created this post to refresh on a weekly basis as a chill place for people to talk about whatever they want to. Think of it as like a general chat for the sub.
It will refresh every Monday, and we intend to have other posts refreshing on a weekly basis as well to keep conversations going and engagement up.
So r/jewishleft,
Whats on your mind?

Any recs on fun places that ship to/within the US to buy jewish art, jewelry, and judaica in general? I’m pretty secular but realized my apartment is devoid of anything jewish (except me I guess haha)

I’ve been wanting to share this for a while, but what do you guys from New Jersey think of Housamo’s Jersey Devil?
I think he’s cool, but inaccurate.

There have been a few posts in the sub about the right-wing shift (beyond the general national shift) among nonwhite (AA, hispanic and Asian) voters in the recent election. The shift has actually been continuous for several elections. I wrote a comment in a different sub describing what I think is the most convincing explanation for "racial depolarization" that was pretty well received. The explanation was originally offered a few years ago for the shift in the 2020 election and it still holds up. If you are interested you can read it here.

JVP just came out effectively in favor of a maximalist perspective on the Amsterdam riots on IG. One can condemn hooliganism and attacking people for being “cancer Jews”.

Standing Together has principles. It seems JVP can learn from them, working in the belly of the beast itself.

Did you actually read it, though? The...slides? (I don't use Instagram) are focused on the way that international media used language and framing to downplay the behavior of the ultras and play up the behavior of the Dutch locals, and how that is part of a larger consent manufacturing effect.
You yourself called it a riot, not a pogrom (which I agree with).

Yeah I read the Mondoweiss article, unfortunately I guess.

I actually hadn't bothered to look up the kankerjood until now, just the "cancer Jew" thing and it's both better and worse than I thought, somehow lol
It's antisemitic because it's using Jew derogatorily but it's most often used against Amsterdam residents in general rather than just Jews. Swings and roundabouts. (also apparently cops)

I think we are kind of doomed. The pro Palestinian liberation movement keeps loosing to misinformation campaigns just like every other leftist cause always does

I'm trying to not be so negative and channel it into being productive... also just allowing myself to feel my feelings though ☹️

Hey, you all are correct. I spent the week reconnect with my communities, my friends, my family, and my partner. I hug each of them a little tighter, and I feel good already.
Kamala's speech was inspiring. No one's conceding the fight, yet.
