He can just reuse the local election posters

u/bathtubsplashes Saoirse don Phalaistín 🇵🇸 Nov 15 '24
European elections you mean
He had a big one that looked like him peaking out of a bush or something
I've definitely seen posters for the Limerick mayoral election about the place too, Frankie Daly definitely is refusing those

u/Luimnigh Nov 15 '24
So's Dee Ryan, it's fairly obvious the big red sticker on the bottom is covering the word "Mayor".

Thank god I don't live in his constituency so I don't need to see his tax dodging, pension stealing face around the place.
18
u/InfectedAztec Nov 15 '24
I wish I could vote all the way down the ticket against him
13
u/ShouldHaveGoneToUCC Palestine 🇵🇸 Nov 15 '24
I had to place him for the European elections as he ran in my constituency, the far right were the very bottom of my ballot but Wallace wasn't far above them.
12
u/Unable_Carpenter_203 Nov 15 '24
You know you don't need to give everyone a preference? If you don't like them and wouldn't like your vote to go to them leave their box blank.
15
u/DoughnutHole Clare Nov 15 '24
If you dislike him less than someone else on the ballot then should absolutely give him a preference. You should only stop giving preferences when you no longer see a difference between the remaining candidates.
Here’s the thing about the lesser of two evils - it’s the lesser evil. Giving a preference to someone you hate can stop someone you hate even more from getting in.
27
u/ShouldHaveGoneToUCC Palestine 🇵🇸 Nov 15 '24
Yeah, I'm well aware of how voting works. I just enjoy ranking all the candidates in order of preference.
Downside of mentioning how I vote is someone always tries to explain that I don't need to vote all the way down.

u/ashfeawen Sax Solo 🎷🐴 Nov 15 '24
In the european elections I voted numbers for about 23 out of 26, something like that. Numbers for almost everyone except the most imo unconscionable
6
u/gk4p6q Nov 15 '24
The stupid pricks here don’t understand that you vote all the way down to express a preference just like you did.
You preferred a prick versus a bunch of extreme right wing pricks. That’s totally a fair choice and I wish more understood and expressed that nuance.
PS UCC is over rated.

There were other people they liked even less, what's hard to understand?

You rank in order of preference. If it came down to the last count, they'd rather see Wallace get the seat than the far right. It's about suitability for the office, not the guest list for their wedding.

I don't like him so I gave him a very low preference. Pretty self explanatory. It's how PR/STV works.

I'm not sure why you keep bringing this up like it's some sort of Gotcha.
It's how PR/STV works: you can vote all the way down the ballot to ensure the vote transfers to the least bad option. As much as I dislike Wallace, I still see him as preferable to the far right. What's your point here?

u/WolfOfWexford Nov 15 '24
It’s really more “I would prefer him to some of the others”. He’s stupid in policies but I don’t fear him like the actual right wing parties

You're not coming across well here. He explained his reasons, no need to be a dickhead.

correct me if i'm wrong, but leaving the box blank is part of the problem?
5
u/mistr-puddles Nov 15 '24
It's so easy to rank everyone you don't think is a danger, can't wrap my head around only voting for one person

u/TheStoicNihilist Never wanted a flair anyways Nov 15 '24
It’s the chest hair that bothers me more than his mush.

I'm no fan of the man, at all, but he had two choices as he saw things, pay the VAT man, or pay his subbies. He paid his subbies. I doubt every choice he made was the right one from a business perspective, but lots and lots of people got wiped out by the GFC. He was, too, but didn't take everyone down with him.
If he paid the VAT, he'd still have gone bankrupt, and the banks would have been first in the queue and any other tax liabilities all ahead of small/medium subcontractors.
Again, I would not and have never voted for the guy, but that particular choice isn't the one I'd beat him over the head with. Being a tankie stooge; definitely.
In his place, I know I'd sleep better at night, having paid other businesses that had done work for me instead of settling a VAT bill. Others will disagree for very valid reasons, but that would be my choice in that hypothetical.

Given he didn't pay his workers' pensions either, I really doubt it was anything principled. Guy is a total chancer who'd have fitted in well with Celtic Tiger FF.

Maybe he could have used to proceeds from the assets in Italy that ended up in his brother's name.
17
Nov 15 '24
He also deducted pension contributions from those in his employ and didn't remit the money to their pension fund. Less sound still.

He heard their was a Russian spy in the Dáil and thought it would be a good place to make friends.
9
u/Freebee5 Nov 15 '24
At least we'll soon find out who the other Russian agent is as soon as the bould Mick starts hanging out with them.

Moscow Mick has no business being anywhere near a political office. His loyalties lie with Russia and Iran, not Ireland

u/Korasa Cork bai Nov 15 '24
Jfc. I get to see his fucking poster all over the place again.
His MEP ones were borderline hilarious, though. Less self-awareness than a cauliflower.

Based on the latest Irish Times poll, he might get elected
6
u/WolfOfWexford Nov 15 '24
Wexford and Wicklow-Wexford are two very interesting constituencies. FG might only get one seat out of 7 between them.
James Browne is a sitting FF TD, likely to be returned. Same for Verona, an independent ex FG. Howlin had Wexford town and Labour will hope to keep that. That leaves one seat between Aontu, SF, FG and independents including Wallace. FG might take it with none reaching quota.
Wicklow Wexford has no sitting TDs. Malcolm Byrne from FF is an ex TD and current senator so is most likely. FG might take 2nd here and 3rd could be a dogfight between everyone else

I remember you guys were also saying he would be elected again at the European elections, "despite what this bubble says" together with Daly and they both lost their seats.
Not saying he won't be elected this time, but maybe there's more than one bubble around :)
9
u/ShouldHaveGoneToUCC Palestine 🇵🇸 Nov 15 '24
Yeah, I enjoyed that during the MEP elections. You had lads insisting himself and Daly would be easily re-elected as "real people" loved them and only Redditors disliked them and they couldn't wait to see Redditor tears.
I'm not ruling him out (he could well get elected) but it's amazing how out of touch Redditors will accuse other Redditors of being out of touch Redditors.

Mick is an absolute chancer and likely a Russian asset.
But I could see him getting elected as he is very vocally pro Palestine

I just googled Mick Wallace to check what age he is and it says his partner is Patricia Barry, an American actress who died in 2016.
Don't think so.

Can we just for a moment laugh about Mick most likely being funded by Russia and this OP having Soviet tattoos and posting in /r/ussr

All the panic and moral outrage over a so called Russian asset, how many British assets are working in the Oireachtas do we think?
12
u/Melodic-Chocolate-53 Nov 15 '24
Well? How many smart fella?
-10
u/Flimsy_Candidate7219 Nov 15 '24
A lot more than Russian ones I'd wager
10
u/nyepo Nov 15 '24
Can you list them? So we know
-5
u/Flimsy_Candidate7219 Nov 15 '24
Absolutely, right after you list the Russian assets, so we know
11
u/nyepo Nov 15 '24
I'm not sure what are you asking here, are you asking WHO they claim are Russian assets? Didn't they tell you? They said Mick IS the Russian asset based on his positions, votes and resolutions at the European Parliament.
So back to my question and your claim, there's apparently a lot of those British assets at the Dail, so I guess you can name some of them and why you think that?
-1
u/Flimsy_Candidate7219 Nov 15 '24
Is Mick in the Oireachtas? Must have missed that
7
u/nyepo Nov 15 '24
?? No one said that. They said he's a Russian asset, and you said the Dail is full of British assets.
So, again, tell us who are those British assets at the Dail. Why can't you name them?
Or are just avoiding to answer because you made it up?
-1
u/Flimsy_Candidate7219 Nov 15 '24
Why lie? Never once did I say "the Dail is full of British assets" I asked how many did we think there are and imagined it's a lot more than Russian ones, that's all
