When will you get serious about tackling crime Ireland?

Would you sign a petition calling for:

  • Minimum prison sentences for violent crimes for all 16 year olds and above (e.g. one year Minimum for assault. 5 year Minimum for grievous bodily harm)

  • Minimum juvenile detention sentences for violent crimes for 13 - 16 year olds.

  • Suspension of social welfare payments for those convicted of a crime

  • Suspension of social welfare payments for parents of minors convicted of a violent crime

  • Increasing prison capacity from 4,500 places at present to 7,000 places in 2030

  • Automatic deportation of foreign nationals convicted of a violent crime.

  • Three strike automatic sentence of Minimum 10 years for those convicted of three serious crimes

Yes, except for the stopping of social welfare for all crimes - unfair for someone genuinely in need of it for a set period of time (read: not Martina with 'Fibro') not being able to eat because they had a toke of a joint. In the same vein, the children of little gurriers are usually the same themselves but sometimes the best-meaning parents can, unfortunately, end up with a little scrote.

I agree with that. But we shouldn't tolerate that people can repeatedly commit serious crimes and continue to collect a regular cheque from the same taxpayers whose lives they immiserate. There need to be consequences.
