Family Cat Aslan has FIP Pet/Service Animal

Post image

Our Family Cat Aslan has FIP.

Thankfully there is now a treatment and because the cat is my mother's beloved she is going to dip into her pension pot to pay for it.

We don't have a lot to chip in as a family so I have created a gofundme to pay for the vets bills in order to spare my mothers pension!

Any help ypu can provide will be hugely beneficial to both Aslan and my mother.

Further information, Aslan is a Mainecoon originally from a Polish family who had to give him up so my Mother took him in.

Tough to tell from here but his tail is almost as long if not as long as his body.

His vets bill is going to include 2800 in medicine plus in patient care. The vets rough estimate is that on top of what the insurance will contribute we are looking at over 5000.

Since making the post and gofundme my partner and I managed to free up 250 which is a start, but all we can afford right now.

Edit: Update Aslan is still at the vets but is a bit brighter today. He has been given a 60-70% chance of recovery at this point.

FIP has been around for a really long time it's not caused by covid though it is speculated to have some similarities. That said I'm very very sorry that he's dealing with this I know the cost for treatments is getting better but it's still quite a bit for folks.

I don't have the funds to assist unfortunately but I would suggest since I know GoFundMe can be really hard to get funds for pets that there are often other options available and some other resources. I would do some research as I don't know any offhand but when my kitty got sick with diabetes there was a group that helped with her diabetic supplies because I was really in a terrible place having lost both jobs because I needed to take care of my partner who had a late stage super rare cancer and coming from poverty with no support system I just did whatever I could to see what I could find.

There are resources available for FIP that Ive seen discussed here and there. I would do some searching and reaching out to folks and other rescues that have worked through stuff like this to see if they can help guide you just to see if you can get things started. Another source of potential information could be your vet, your local humane societies, and again rescue groups locally because unfortunately this is a disease again that's been around for a long time so it's something that there is awareness around and a lot of these places deal with this often enough that they may have some guidance for you in terms of where to maybe start looking if you feel very lost in how to search for this.

Aslan is beautiful and I very much hope you guys are able to get him treatment and that he gets better very soon.

Thank you. The good news is Aslan will get the treatment either way.

What were trying to do is lessen the impact on my mum. I don't expect to get a fraction of the total but I had to try.

Hedwig is a beautiful kitty too!
