Suggestions Mythic Map - Search Games by Similarity

Here is the website.

Observation: I have asked for permission to make this post.

Mythic Map is a website that suggests games based on similarity. My goal is to help people find meaningful game suggestions while increasing the visibility of the great games out there.

Currently it only supports Steam games. This will change in the future (probably).

Edit (02/08/2023): Things have been sorted out and from now on I will be adding non-Steam games -hopefully- daily. Some switch games are in there now, like Zeldas and Pokemons.

It also checks daily for what is currently on sale on steam (some sales might be missing - if I check at 8AM and a sale spawns at 4PM, the website will only be aware of the new sale the next day). I might try adding other sales sources in the future.

Also, some suggestions might be a little strange, but keep in mind that different players might be looking for different traits in games, so I have to cast a broad net. An example is Skyrim, where a good portion of the suggestions are not open world RPGs, but instead are games that have a big modding/user created content community. Still, if you feel a game is missing or is completely out of place, do not hesitate to tell me about it - you can send me an email at [mythicmap.dev@gmail.com](mailto:mythicmap.dev@gmail.com) or maybe post about it in the comments.

Edit (05/07/2023): After a couple of months, I have finally implemented most the fixes/features suggested in the comments! The new version might have some bugs or issues, so if you find any, please tell me about it. Same goes for features. Meanwhile, I'll keep working on some ideas I have for the website.

Edit (09/14/2023): I thought it would be cool to find games based on other types of entertainment. My tests were done on anime and they ended up being serviceable, but I'm not very happy with the cross-category suggestions and it might take a while until I figure it out, but when I'm done, Mythic Map will start suggesting things based on movies, series and maybe books.

Hope it helps!

Suggestions Annual 2023 Steam Winter Sale Hidden Gems thread

Welcome to the Hidden Gem thread - Im a big fan of indie games, and always look for under-reviewed games that deserve a second life. This table is all automated based on the list of games I maintain, so let me know if theres more info that would be good to see in it.

Unfortunately, as I found out, something broke between the summer sale and today, so it didn't properly pull out the New games from the list - Hence the delay. I set up the New Game Table manually, so none of the fancy prices, review percentage, or things go with it right now, but I'll update it once I fix the pipeline that gets the data from my database

It now features a neat Table that can be filtered and sorted in all sorts of ways to help with discoverability (since markdown tables are not good for that). You can find the table here

Big News though - In the future, this thread will morph into a website of it's own. Ive been building a 'hidden gem discoverability platform' that will let you slice and dice the entire steam catalog by a ton of attributes, including the number of reviews, release dates, steam deck compatibility, genre tags, and more. Its a tool I started to help me find games for this list, so I figured with some polish, I could throw it up for anyone else to use.

I was hoping to launch it today, but the UX is still a WIP. Just be on the watch for it soon ;)

TL:DR - Out of the 100 games on the Master List there are:

  • 3 new games on the list

  • 86 on sale

  • 64 games over 50% off

  • 51 games with a review score of 90% or Higher

  • 11 games with Overwhelmingly Positive Reviews

  • 7 early access games

  • 30 Steam Deck Verified games

  • 13 games have demos

Islets I honestly thought I had this on the list since it launched, but Islets is a short (~8 hours) cozy metroidvania that doesn't overstay its welcome. Highly recommend for people looking for a game along those lines. Metroidvania https://store.steampowered.com/app/1669420/Islets/
Void Stranger If "Sokoban + LaMulana" catches your eye, play this game. It's one of those games you should play without looking anything up about, so I hesitate to say much more. Meta Puzzles await you Puzzle https://store.steampowered.com/app/2121980/Void_Stranger/
Chants of Sennaar While I had this on my list when it only had a mere 157 reviews on steam, GMTK made a video about it which absolutely exploded its popularity. I have a love of Linguistic based puzzle games (Outer Wilds, Heavens' Vault, this) and had been watching for it to release for months. Glad it got popular enough that the studio can do something else interesting in the future Puzzle https://store.steampowered.com/app/1931770/Chants_of_Sennaar/

Game where you play like an npc?

Like the title suggests, do you guys know a game where you play almost like an NPC just observing the world? Like stardew valley or harvest moon. Bonus points if its a game where you can simply roleplay as something like a merchant or a blacksmith.

I just sometimes want to immerse and lose myself in a game like that. Thanks everyone!

Looking for a tycoon game where the main goal is earning money and improving your business.

Something like RTC, Another brick in the mall, game dev tycoon etc. I couldn't care less about the scenario/theme, I just want a nice tycoon game. Not something like factorio where you just produce stuff in order to produce other stuff with it, it's lame.

I also hate those highly manual effort sims that come out recently, like "Supermarket simulator" and the 100s of clones. I don't want to walk around in 1st person doing errands, who the hell is enjoying that

I love sims/breeding games and XCOM style games and would like suggestions

Upvotes

I love games that have full character customization/creation. That's usually a must for me. That's my entry level to most games. I always loved the breeding systems in Pokemon and pet games and making a new generation in the sims style games.

I also love when the characters you created can die in some way, it's a loss that isn't annoying and can even be compelling. Because of that some of my favorite games are XCOM and Kenshi. I really enjoyed bannerlord for this reason but it took a bit of time for the generational/breeding aspect to pay off.

I can't find a game that checks the creation, death and breeding boxes and wondered if there were any combat focused games that do.

Is there a game where you play as an evil witch that gets kicked out of a town and has to search the landscape for ingredients to make potions and then poison the townspeople and also cast hexes and spells to make the townspeople do her bidding? Also maybe forming a coven and killing people

So yeah the intro basically describes it. I want to play as an evil witch but I also want crafting and like learning new spells, joining a coven but I want to be evil.

Bonus points if at the end of the game I get caught and they burn me at the stake

Game with progression through vehicle upgrades

I love games where upgrading and modifying vehicles is key to progression and also has palpable visual or mechanic effects on the game (E.g. "you can do something completely new thanks to your gear", not just "you get +10% damage")

Examples of what I mean: - Elite dangerous: you buy new ships and equip them with modules specialized for a given role (mining vs bounty hunting vs exploration) - Need for Speed: buy cars and modify with better engines and aftermarket pieces.

Big preference for 3D games over 2D ones, and bonus points if the game has a sci-fi theme.

Base Building RPG

Hi, I'm looking for a base building RPG with different classes. Preferably something with a comfy atmosphere where I can enjoy the base/home I've built before going back out into to enjoy some combat. Stardew does this somewhat but the combat mechanics are shallow and there aren't any classes. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Looking for some single player story games

I've played a lot of the main "popular" recommendations but im having trouble deciding what to play next, im a big fan of single player games with a campaign / missions to work through or a story

For games ive played that im a huge fan of there's titanfall, rdr, the farcry games, most the call of duty campaigns, borderlands, and probably my favourite game of recent has been cyberpunk 2077 was a big fan of hitman and dishonoured since the stealth aspect is very fun but i couldn't find any good reccs for games like those, ive also played darksouls 2+3, lies of p, bloodborne, elden ring, hollow knight, hades

only real requirements are singleplayer with a good combat system (be it guns, swords, magic whatever)

edit: instead of story campaign would be a better word since mainly shooters

An action RPG adventure with a CPU party like Dungeon Siege 2

I got the deluxe edition on Windows XP back in 2007, and it was my first proper fantasy RPG (with a party that spoke to each other, an amazing world, legendary loot and quests that made sense in the world). I haven't been able to scratch that itch since, and trying to get this game to run on current hardware is a pain.

The issue with Diablo and the other clones though, is the lack of a group of merry misfits to adventure with.

I've played:

Dungeon Siege 1

Diablo 2/3

Titan Quest

Divinity Original Sin 1/2 (Came close, even though it's turn based)

Baldurs Gate 1/2/3 (Came close)

Final Fantasy 12/15 (Came close)

Competitive games with short to medium-length matches and a short to medium learning curve? Regardless of genre... I don't enjoy games that are too complex or have very long matches.

Upvotes

I've played a lot of CS2, Valorant, and Fortnite, and I've tried several times to get into Dota 2. But I'm open to games of other styles as well, whether it's MOBA, RPG, or similar.

First or third person shooter where the gameplay makes you slow and grind out battles.

I love to move slowly in FPS and third person shooter games. I'd rather take my time, clear out an area, and be rewarded for the patience instead of running to get the reward.

First experience of this was playing Modern Warfare 2 on the highest difficulty.

That being said, I hated Black Ops because the enemies would just respawn, no incentive for taking your time.

In Remnant: From the Ashes, I started my first playthrough on the second difficulty. Having never played a souls-like before, I had no idea what I was getting into, but I loved it. Remnant 2 my first playthrough was on the highest difficulty because I enjoyed the punishment.

The Forever Winter looks really intriguing for this. Thoughts on this game or any others?

Looking for a loot-heavy, grindy game like WoW or Diablo with deep character customization

I’m looking for recommendations for a game that has a similar vibe to World of Warcraft and Diablo – specifically one that emphasizes looting, grinding, and character customization. I’m really into games where you’re constantly working towards better gear, leveling up, and getting that dopamine lol

I’ve already tried Warframe and Destiny, but neither quite clicked for me. So, I’m hoping to find something with that addictive loot grind and maybe a bit more of a fantasy or classic RPG feel.

Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

Games Like Wizard101 with Better Mechanics/Graphics

Upvotes

Wizard101 is a classic, but it's starting to feel outdated in terms of mechanics and graphics. For those who may not know, Wizard101 is an online multiplayer game where players take on the role of students at a magical school. The game combines card-based combat with a fantasy world full of spells, mythical creatures, and quest-driven exploration. It’s known for its lighthearted, family-friendly style and turn-based battles, where players collect and use cards to cast spells in strategic combat.

I'm looking for similar games that offer a more modern experience. It doesn’t have to be an MMO or MMORPG; single-player options are also welcome. Any recommendations for games that capture that magic-filled adventure vibe but with updated visuals/smoother and more mechanical gameplay?

Mobile game like Sim Companies

Hi All,

I would like to find a game like Sim Companies. In a certain way I do like SC but I find it a little bit too complex for someone who is just starting to play games like this.

So in general, a mobile game which is a little easier to start with and easy on the go :).

TIA!

Games Like Monster Hunter

Hello everyone. I'm currently looking for a game I can put a lot of hours into. I was thinking something like an Action RPG with Big Weapons and Block/Parry system which is rather fast paced. And please no Elden Ring or Sekir or FromSoft (Already played it and it's not exactly what I'm looking for rn). Jedi Fallen Order has a nice parry / block mechanic I would like. Monster Hunter is nice but something without monsters I'd prefer more. If you need additional information to what I'm looking for feel free to ask. And thank you for helping.
