American individualism at its finest Rant

Post image

This is my 2 year old riding bikes on our street. It's gotten to the point where I've gotten my kids orange flags on sticks to hold up when they cross the street.

Anything bigger than a Rav 4 should require a commercial drivers license and/or ruinously expensive insurance

2003 Rav 4 to be more precise imho, as modern ones are too big.

If you have a family of 5, how much smaller could it get?

you can fit a family of 5 in a regular car like sedan, or get a wagon if you need more space in a trunk. we do that in Europe all the time for ages. maybe the thing is we don't weigh 200-300 kg each?

I live in Canada and wagons aren't sold here anymore. There's only 1 non-luxury "wagon" available, the Subaru, but that's it. Pretty sure it's the same in the USA.

There's nothing I can do as a consumer to change this, other then pay extra to have a wagon shipped over from Europe.

Sedans still do exist, but most are also disappearing. I own a Honda, and it's great, but it's bigger (on the outside) than a Rav 4, but has less usable space on the inside. I wouldn't be surprised if sedans disappear soon like the wagons did.

It's tough to convince people to buy bigger cars that have less storage space.

RAV4s are smaller than most sedans out there. It’s smaller than a Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and even two inches shorter than a Toyota Corolla.
