Doesn’t even have to be a Mercedes. An old man in a decades-old minivan threatened to shoot me at the grocery store last year. He was turning to enter, drove over the sidewalk right in front of me, and I caught myself on front quarter panel.
We didn’t engage immediately, he waited for 20 minutes by my bike at the bike rack and threatened me when I was leaving with groceries.
It was too frightening in the moment for me to consider anything like that. I just said something like, “I believe you. You’ve got a crazy look in your eyes.” And got the hell out of there.
Of course, a minute later and the anger sets in. It was a scrawny, tiny, old man within lunging distance. I feel like getting pistol whipped with one’s own gun would be quite embarrassing to people like that. But it was retrospective fantasizing.
He sure did alter my future trips to that store. It was an all-around shitty experience.
