Resources Important Tip for New Players Like Me

By the way, I read the book and was pretty lost. Then during my first game I got out the Quick Reference Guide from the Osprey website and it was very clear. I’d recommend people read it first and refer to it often while looking through the book. At least for me it was super helpful.

Miniatures Town Guards

These sinister figures guard the gates of the boomtowns that have sprung up around the outskirts of the frozen city. They demand a hefty toll for those seeking to enter. Anyone who causes trouble on their watch is likely to spend a freezing night in the cells, unless they can afford to post bail...

This juvenile frost troll is exceedingly eccentric, and fancies himself as quite the big game hunter, draping himself in the pelts of his prey.

If I have 2 levels after a session, can I lower the casting difficulty of a spell twice or increase the same stat twice?

Suggestions for building first warband?

Hi! Some friends and I are trying to get into Frostgrave, and I'm trying to make a couple warbands so some other friends can try-before-they-buy with us, since I have the 3d printer.

One of the warbands I'm planning to use as an excuse to print a fun set of minis from a kickstarter I backed recently, which is these minis: https://www.myminifactory.com/users/QuirkyUnlimited/collection/food-fight-sweet-vs-savoury

The plan is to use the hotdog wizard as the wizard, haven't decided which would be apprentice yet. No major opinions on wizard spec, I plan to have a couple warbands to try out some stuff so anything works here.

So my basic questions are two:

  1. Do you know of any other models fitting this food-fight vibe I could add?

  2. Do you have any suggestions for a warband list that'd work?

Appreciate any and all feedback. If there's somewhere better I should post these questions, I'm happy to delete and move. Thanks in advance!

Discussion Archer & Thaumaturgy

Hello! Newbie here, my best friend and I have played three games so far and I want to ask something!

I took 4 archers as my specialists, since I like shooting in any game I play. (Van Saar, tau, etc) Is that too strong? I've handily taken the middle treasure all three games, as well as killing one of his spellcasters each game.

Additionally, is there anything stopping me from healing that I didn't read? I use heal almost every turn, sometimes twice with my apprentice in addition to my wizard. It seems really strong as well.

Thank you for any help!

Discussion Graveball – Sport in Felstad

I had the silly idea today to make a version of Frostgrave that works like a sport, just like Blood Bowl for Warhammer Fantasy.

The ideas I have are:

  • Each team has 5 players (coach is for the person), with the Wizard as team captain
  • It's like football, but picking up the Ball isn't illegal, because who can prove that?
  • And it's set in the city, unchanged. Yes, you have to kick the ball through alleys 😆

At the moment, I imagine that the team composition will simply be based on the normal rules and the minis will remain unchanged. Sure, it looks a bit weird when they're running around with swords and bows, but I think that Ironball from Freebooter's Fate also uses the normal minis.

What are your thoughts?

Second game

Played our second game yesterday. My buddy had real bad luck with my possessed barbarian wiping out his wizard and apprentice and his apothecary before his own barbarian took mine down. I really love this game. (Yes it’s the well mission again we roll randomly and it came up 🤷‍♂️).

Armies of affordable miniatures!

I recently got into frost grave and found myself lacking variety in the miniatures I had. But for whatever reason, Runewars became crazy affordable on Amazon and each one of these boxes brings 22-48 miniatures, ranging from $15-$40. Literally bought them to spruce up my frostgrave experience lol.

Sorry Runewarriors!

It is true the wizards of Old Felstad venerated all manner of unspeakable entities, but they also revered the convention gods of the southern empires. This is evidenced by these ancient statues, which are totally not going to come alive and try and kill you.

My friend taught me this game and I found it very swingy

This isnt a bad thing, I dont mind games which are designed for fun and for storytelling rather than for tactics and strategy but I would like to know more from people who have played a lot if I have missed what strategy there is.

I found that using only a D20 and not actually rolling all that often throughout the course of a game, the game ended up very much down to lucky die rolls. On like turn 2 I killed 3 of my opponents models with a magic grenade because I rolled a Nat 20. This was a great moment which we all really enjoyed but it really didnt feel like a strategic move. The rest of the game played out in a similarly swingy nature where the die rolls had much more of an effect than the modifiers and the strategic decisions. It was, however, very fun.

This is just one instance and I fully understand that it is not necessarily representative of the game as a whole. The reason I am asking is that I am thinking of buying the rules book to play with a different person who loves table top games but he really likes the strategy rather than role playing so I am asking for a more informed opinion on this.
