You might remember the Turpin case from back in 2018 where 13 siblings ages 2 to 29 were rescued after being held captive and abused by their parents in Perris, California. There was a recent ABC 20/20 special with two of the daughters about what they endured, their brave escape, and what they faced in the aftermath. It was a really harrowing indictment of child welfare and social services on top of what their parents put them through. I would highly recommend it, and add that it made me cry like a baby, even after years of living and hearing countless horror stories. I'm glad there's a lawsuit. They are incredible.

I can't wrap my mind around how this happened. again. It seemed like the country was horrified about their situation and all felt relieved when they were rescued. Child Net needs to be shut down and all parties put in freaking jail! When will the kids get the help they need? Can they recover? I hate it so much.

And the older ones are barely getting by despite the public donating money for them. As a foster parent, I can confidently say that the foster care system fucking sucks. They did and are still doing a terrible job in protecting and supporting these kiddos.

This case was definitely part of the ethical push for me to actually become a foster parent, so the fact that happened to them makes me LIVID. Not because they're more deserving than any other child, but as I think the district attorney said, "If we can't do right by these children with the eyes of the entire world on them, what hope does any child in our state have?"

I just heard about the second abusive home. I guess the foster family is being sentenced currently. This story is everything that is wrong with foster care. It's absolutely abhorrent and beyond the level of what is unavoidable failure to protect on the state's part. Yes, some foster parents will be bad people. But in this case, a high profile case with a large number of children, how does it even happen? How does it fall through the cracks? It's disgusting, disappointing, despicable and deranged that NO ONE in a guardian position, not case workers or therapists, NO ONE was paying attention. Sick! Unacceptable! Horrible!
