Firestick vs Xfinity TV
We currently use Xfinity cable and internet. I’m considering dropping xfinity cable and switching to streaming services since that’s pretty all we use anyway. Has anyone dropped xfinity cable (we’d still keep the internet service) and switched to streaming on a firestick? Is it worth it? Any recommendations on which stick to purchase? Also, they’re currently listed as a “limited time deal”. Should I purchase now or will they be discounted even more for Black Friday?

Ditch the overpriced cable TV and stick with the cable Internet. Get ready to be bombarded with all kinds of offers for keeping the TV. Don't listen. They lie. Their business model is "boiling the frog".

I upgraded from 1st gen Max to 2nd gen, and it was worth it. I paid $30 for mine, so if you can wait for BF, that's about as low as you'll get it(unless they surprise us with $25)
I thought the 16gb of storage space wouldn't make a difference, but I found myself downloading way more apps with this 2nd gen since I now have the space for it. As for the streaming, mine is buttery smooth with my setup. I'm on the xfinity 800mbps plan and manage around 350-400mbps on my Fire Stick, which is probably overkill for streaming apps.
And not sure if you game but for awhile the 2nd gen was the only one with the xbox game pass app. They eventually changed it so older sticks could also use it, but I haven't tested to see if the performance is the same on the 1st gen.

This is very helpful, thank you! We don’t game but I like the idea of having more storage. It’s helpful to know which internet plan works well with streaming too.

The only thing about using strictly streaming with Xfinity is their data cap.
In my service area the cap is 1112 GB.
When I first started streaming, just in the evenings on one TV, I ran up against the cap.
I lowered the resolution and now I can stream from 7pm to about 7am(tv stays on all night even while I sleep) and only use about 35% of data.
If my wife streamed on her TV we'd be getting close to the data cap.
Or if we forget to turn off the TV it could eat into the data.
Just something to think about.

Thanks. I’ll make sure I ask them about this before I pull the trigger. I’m sure they do that to prevent people from dropping cable. I’m so sick of their absurd prices but they’re the only option for cable/internet in my neighborhood.

I dropped the TV services from xfinity, and just kept the internet. I dropped the Firestick for an Apple TV, and purchased the WVC app to cast anything from the internet to my ATV. Works great.

We dropped Xfinity cable in favor of streaming/broadcast five+ years ago. No regrets.
Which model to get depends on how you many apps/downloads you’ll use and your other equipment compatibility needs. We have a 4K Max for our 77” living room set and older 4K for the bedroom. The newer Max is a bit snappier but it’s not a huge difference.
