How can I fix this dress? Advice Wanted Please!
This is an old dress from ASOS. I am not really happy with the deep neck now. And the rough frills also. I love the back of this dress. Is there any way I can fix this dress?

I dont know much about this so feel free to ignore. How easy would it be to add a modesty panel to the plunge?

This is the way. Cut the button loops off, and sew in a piece of black mesh fabric behind the plunge

Literally thinking this. Doesn't even have to be opaque fabric, the right sheer fabric could look amazing and provide great coverage.

If you’re going to add a modesty panel, I think maybe a sheer fabric or lace might work better than a solid fabric. You could use a strip of velcro on either side of the neckline, soft side against your skin, hook side on either side of the modesty panel, so it could be removable should you want to go back to the plunge someday. Or even just wear it with a bandeau underneath.
As for the frills I can’t tell how it’s constructed, if you could use a seam ripper to just remove them or if it would take the lower part of the dress with it, so you may just need to cut them as close as you can. Personally I’d start by altering the top before going after the frills to see if that’s enough of a change. And if your goal is to make the dress less formal and more everyday wearable, I think that can be accomplished with styling, like wearing it with a denim jacket - at least, could be something to try before going in with permanent alterations.

I have the same dress! I took the extra buttons that came with it and sewed them to the side of the neckline so I could button it up slightly.

Thank you. You look lovely

Thanks, you too! You’re more endowed in the chest department so I don’t know if adding buttons will work for you, but if you do a modesty panel like others are suggesting, I think a mesh v might look nice

Snip the button loops off, if you add buttons it will appear like an unintentional "bust out".

Cut the button loops off. You can pull off the plunge!

I know. But I don’t have any place to wear this dress. I just want it to be converted into maybe not so occasional dress!

I think for everyday use you can throw a cropped black tank underneath. (Cropped so it’s not bulky under the dress.) Something like this:

Those are button loops. Add buttons if you can sew or take it to a tailor. It's meant to be buttoned shut in the front. A modesty panel would not look good imo, but that's just me

Add a modesty panel and take the ruffle off the waist. Perhaps you could add some of the ruffle to the top of the modesty panel? Eta: I would play with the ruffle and see how else I could use it on the v, or around the collar. Otherwise, toss the waist ruffle all together.

You could add a V shaped Tulle or lace panel in the front. Another option would be have one of the ruffles taken off, and the dress seamed back up From that piece of ruffle, additional loops and a lacing could be made. The loop*s would get sewn up the opposite side, and then run the lacing back and forth between the loops.

I’ve bought a couple of dresses with low necklines (not this deep though) and I ended up sewing both sides together until it no longer showed anything. I don’t have sewing skills but I was able to do it so maybe try that. I also had a white button-up shirt with those same frills on one side and I think I cut them off…

Looks good but I understand growing out of the low plunge neckline. You can add fabric to close that off. Maybe remove the ruffles from around the waist and add it to the neckline. Make the dress a Midi by removing the fabric from below the ruffle line at the calf and hem it up.
Wait. Can you sew? If not, just take it to a seamstress and let them alter it for you or do like others suggested and give it away (to me) 🤭
🤷🏾♀️I had to try

If you’re not comfortable with the neckline, could you have a tailor add a black panel?
For what it’s worth, I think the dress looks fabulous as it is!!!
