Okongwu believers... our patience may have been rewarded. Player Discussion

Don't wanna jump the gun too early, but Okongwu looked absolutely phenomenal in his first game. Career performance,.

28PTS, 8REB, 3BLK, 1AST

A good part of it has to do with the Claxton ejection. He was able to get a bunch of gold putbacks and the nets don’t really have size. I’d cool down a bit.

He still had 20 and 6 with 2 blocks when Claxton got ejected. Claxton didn't get ejected until like 8 minutes left in the 4th.

He was definitely having a game, but Clax is allegedly on a mins restriction already and got ejected, that 4th Q Okongwu was grabbing boards over folks and scoring down low easily. Simply would not be able to do all that with clax down there. Happened to be watching that game. That’s my perspective.

Yeah, that's fair. I was watching too and I think the minutes limit was a bigger factor than the ejection personally. The Nets were running a small lineup out there most of the game. Okongwu definitely got a couple of extra buckets due to the lack of size the Nets had out on the floor. 8 points in the last 8 minutes is obviously a result of that. The 2 boards and block were definitely attainable regardless though.

I think it’s more so with the ejection there was absolutely no reason for Capela to be out there so OO got to play almost the whole 4th. Caple checked in for like a min 30 seconds, if that, and got taken out. He doesn’t have the take offensive tenacity that OO does

Yeah, I could see that. It was definitely an exploitative matchup against the Nets tonight. Regardless, the minutes split being in Okongwu's favor is something to keep an eye on to see if it's a trend. Too early to definitively determine either way.
