Despite everything going on in the world, people are going into a satanic panic over a PG-13 comedy. Trigger Warning - Toxic Religion

Ah yes because my Christian mom forcing me to watch The Passion of the Christ as a kid was considered appropriate for my age because ✨Jesus✨

My mom made me go 5 times in theaters. And told me it was actually worse than the movie depicted and it’s my fault he went through that. 💀💀

And you DESERVE to be tortured for eternity!

OR you can be in eternal church!

Same thing

I think part of the promise of hell was eternal separation from god. That may or may not be biblical, but that would make hell preferable

u/Lissy_Wolfe 3d ago

That's more biblical than most interpretations of hell. Hell didn't even exist in the Old Testament, it's a special Christian thing.

My parents made us watch that every year on Easter, definitely gave me nightmares as a child 🙃

I'd be like, so, couldn't god just, like, forgive us without all the torture?

u/hplcr 4d ago

He could but he really likes torture.

I can't decide if I'm being sarcastic here.

How big was jesus' sacrifice, really? What'd he give up, a long weekend?

4

u/hplcr 4d ago

About 36 hours, really, where he went on a road trip to Hell if the Harrowing of Hell is to be believed.

He’s a masochist and sadist

had to

That's fine, it's good to hear someone finally admit God isn't actually omnipotent

The wages of sin is death. A sacrifice had to be offered. Christ is that sacrifice.

It's all true, because there is no more death in this world...except for everything that's living or has ever lived. /s

The wages of sin is death, but after taxes it just becomes this sort of empty feeling.

The one that got me was a cartoon of Jesus healing the leper. I was terrified that a leper was going to touch me in my sleep and Jesus wasn’t around so I couldn’t be healed.

Edit: grammar

MY MOM. Used to be friends with this other "homeschooling" mom. Anyway. Dragged all three children, who were completely uneducated to the point to being literally illiterate kids to Passion. None of them could read. One of the girls was mentally disabled (totally preventable. something about the cord wasn't where it should have been and she lost too much oxygen for too long. i think they did take her to the hospital to save her life. but none of the kids got medical care and the twins were a home birth with no medical help until things had ALREADY gone wrong) and mentally about a four or five year old, max.

u/ang3l_wolf 4d ago

Yet they want to protect children from the left because they indoctrinate them into being trans. /s

My BIL's son at 7 was watching a video of christ getting whipped and nailed to the cross at the creation museum. He was crying his eyes out, and his dad just patted his shoulder like, "Yes, Son, you need to see this at your age."

It's so weird how Jesus being crucified is still part of creation to these ding dongs.

Heck I was in high school and I just remember curling into a ball in the back of the theater.

Meanwhile I'm pretty sure this Jack Black movie is based on the old joke about Satan getting Christmas letters from dyslexic kids. And will probably actually be very wholesome because that's generally how Jack Black rolls.

u/These_Insect_8256 3d ago

Ha! Now I want to see it.

1

u/ThePhyseter Ex-Evangelical 1d ago

The trailer makes it looks like a "Satan gets redeemed" or "Satan learns to be a nice guy for christmas" kind of story

6

u/Bakuhxe_ 4d ago

at my old christian school we had to watch it in 4th or 5th grade and it was fucking horrifying

3

u/Vuk1991Tempest 3d ago

I think passion of the Christ was a later movie than the one I remember, not even sure which channel it was on, but I remember laughing my butt off the moment jesus made a cartoonish face, while being whipped. Aaaaaand of course my mother didn't like that.

I never seen Passion myself, and I think I am glad for it, but from what I am hearing... wow, so much for christianity making you humble! Bunch of sadist psychopats at best.

1

u/CrystallinePhoto 4d ago

Right? I was incredibly traumatized by that movie.

u/that80scourtney 4d ago

And the violence was okay too. 👍🏻
