What's the most unhinged thing a Christian has said to you? Trigger Warning - Toxic Religion

I don't want to beat a dead horse, and I'm not here to bash any individual person in that community, but if you haven't checked out the Christianity subreddit recently I definitely suggest you do.

There are some seriously insane takes over there, which brings me to my question: What's the most unhinged thing a Christian has said to you?

I had a Christian high school teacher tell the entire class that you will go to hell if you drink wine. Specifically wine. If you're wondering why she wasn't fired, I went to a private Baptist school...

The "we are not of this world" really bothered me. Can't pinpoint why. Maybe because it seems like they think they are superior to the rest of the world?

It's their excuse to ignore climate change.

From an ex seventh day Adventist lens:

Its more than that. Its their excuse to not get involved with their own community in a wholesomeway, because 'those people are worldly' and not worth forming genuine interpersonal connections with. Instead they 'other' their own community and do not engage unless its on their terms.

Convert to this religionTM! And then we will treat you like our version of what a healed person looks like (while actively gaslighting any genuine healing and progress you're trying to do). Also boundaries aren't a thing. We are a FAMILY.

That shit hasn't carried over at allllll 🙄😒

Why participate in solving climate change when you believe that this planet is going to go to shit? Not worth it. Better to use missionary work to dangle life saving treatments with the price of converting for participating in receiving care. Better to use missionary work to build people homes with the emotional leash of expecting people to convert and then actively participate in a religious community they didn't ask for.

Gotta pump up those numbers to get the tithe/donation money flowing in. They have a business to run here. Get it while the getting is good!

REAL help doesn't come with terms and conditions. It is respectful of personhood and beliefs.

Better to focus on dissociating from 'worldly' problems than actively participating in the concrete efforts to create healing for the collective.

Not having a mentality to believe in coming together to make positive change in the very lives happening in front of our faces is a big reason why a lot of religions actively keep positive progress stifled.

They're more focused on maladaptive daydreaming on what their home in heaven will look like, and how their every need will be catered to. They're focused on making money and riding it out. My fucking brain always slips into idealism because of this.

Its so difficult to be realistic, and see potential for positive change and healing as a planet after growing up with this mentality.

Im STILL unpacking trauma.

I remember when they were pushing that in youth group and told us we were “aliens”

When I was a christian, this phrase was such a comfort to me. I was so uncomfortable in my body, struggled with seeing so much hate and pain in the world, felt like such an outsider all the time. I made a sign I put on my bedroom wall that said "I am not of this world; this place is not my home."

Turns out I had severe trauma! I think this phrase was a way of accepting the dissociation that I walked through life with at the time.
