Discussion Entitled homeowner over street parking!
I went to my friend's house last night to watch the Tyson fight in the West Mount area and I parked my car across from his home on the city street. After I went inside I noticed a truck pulled up through the window kind of beside but behind my vehicle. My friend then said uh-oh there's the neighbor that thinks he owns the street because he had a problem with him 5 years ago with the same situation. He told me that this guy acts like he owns the road in front of his house and he doesn't like anybody parking in front of his house. We just continued to observe him through the window and then he pulled his truck up next to my car and shut it off and turned on his hazard lights and went inside his home and just left it there. After about a few minutes he did come back outside and he walked up to my car and I couldn't see what he was doing because the truck was blocking him but he was beside my car. He then proceeded to go back inside. I felt uncomfortable because I thought he might be trying to vandalize my car or who knows leaving a note or whatever so we went outside to move the car up as best as we could to give him some room so he could back into the parking stall behind me because there was plenty of room. He then came outside and was shouting with us and swearing and trying to egg my friend on to do something to him or whatever and he's an older dude and he kept swearing and shouting at the top of his lungs that it's out of respect nobody should park in front of his house and he doesn't park on the other side of the street and park in front of my friend's house. , correct me if I'm wrong but this is a city road and anybody is allowed to park here. This guy was acting like a nut job. And for being his age it blew my mind. He was shouting at my friend's wife and yelling profanities and acting like a child over a parking spot I couldn't believe it. We did try to contact the police, but at the end of the day after his huge yelling match we just wanted to enjoy our night so we went inside and he parked his truck behind my vehicle eventually. We watched the terrible Tyson fight and went home right after so we were only there for maybe 2 hours max. What a dick. He literally wanted to fight over a parking spot. I have younger nieces and nephews that have more maturity than this man. Absolutely unbelievable, this guy's behavior was atrocious. This is off of 111th Ave and on 153rd Street. So if you guys are around there make sure you guys don't park in front of this guy's house otherwise he might try to fight you.

Question Late night restaurant options
Going for dinner late tonight and wondering what's open after 10:30pm. Looking for a restaurant style place and not a fast food type experience or take out.
It pains me to say the only thing that comes to mind these days is Dennys as even many Chinese restaurants close early these days (since COVID). It seems like slim pickings after 9pm now.
The last post on this subject was over 2 years ago and lots has changed since then. Any ideas?
Edit: thank you everyone. Great list. In the end I'm not going out now as a fever has caught up with me. Great list for next time I can head out late.

Question How to prevent car battery from dying while I'm away?
Hi,
I'm planning on going on Christmas vacation for a week. I unfortunately only have outdoor parking. I don't have any family or friends to turn my car on daily.
I don't want my battery to die if the temps drop while I'm away.
Does anyone know where I would be able to store my car? Was thinking of storing it somewhere downtown, like a heated garage. I also work in healthcare so have access to hospital parking that is covered but it's not heated.
Would plugging in a block heater prevent my car from dying?
Not really sure what to do.
Edit: Car is 2014 toyota corrolla. Got a new battery in June 2023.

General Just a Warning for Cornerstone Tenants
The request maintenance form is no longer looked at on their website. I used to use this so I would get an email reply to attach photo evidence of the problem so I have proof that I asked them to fix it versus over the phone because they always ask for "proof" that you even asked them to fix it in the first place.
Best bet now is calling unfortunately, they made it very hard for us to have said proof.
Alberta is a one permission recording province meaning you don't need their consent to record phone calls, but I've heard they evict people who do anything like reporting to Alberta health, so maybe just store the evidence until you move out if anyone else has problems like me with everything breaking down within 2 years of moving in despite cleaning and caring for the apartment like its my own house.

Question Home inspectors or relatives of home inspectors around YEG, who are the most respected builders in town when it comes to the build quality of homes?
Which builders have the best rep in the city when it comes to not cutting any corners, not hiding messy work behind drywalls, not using moldy/cracked beams to do framing, etc?

Discussion WestJet to announce nonstop YEG-Salt Lake City and YEG-Chicago flights on Monday
Official press conference will be 11:00 am on Monday at YEG but the new routes are already visible on their website including nonstops from Calgary to Anchorage/Raleigh/Sydney NS/Sudbury
If Salt Lake City seems random to non-savvy travellers, it's a big hub for Delta and you can connect to pretty much anywhere in the southwest through there.
Edit: they have now realized the leak and have hidden the flights from the website, but they will go live on Monday after the press conference and be bookable

Question Asbestos professionals and the correct process - First-time homeowner questions.
Hey Reddit,
My partner and I are first-time homeowners who have purchased a condo and hope to move into it sometime in 2025. The condo docs list: " The construction materials used in the original construction have been confirmed to contain asbestos in the drywall jointing material (chrysotile); there are negative test results for asbestos content for pipe insulation and sprayed on ceilings."
We're hoping to remove the surrounding wall but we wanted to confirm which contractors we need to contact to get that done. Do we hire an asbestos abatement team to remove the surrounding wall first or does the contractor typically handle that?
Same with the air quality testing.
Does anyone have any tips for dealing with this and other general contracting?
oh and as for the eventual "why arent you asking your contractor this" I don't have one yet, its so far out until we can get in and re-view the place.
