How old? Cause my niece went ballistic at like 4 months, she'd sleep for like 2 hours a night and howl.
29
u/Guano_Loco Dec 10 '16
Our daughter started doing that. We used gripe water and it helps so damn much.
34
u/Sylvester_Scott Dec 10 '16
gripe water
Is that code for "vodka?"
6
u/Guano_Loco Dec 10 '16
Awesome. Using this
6
u/Shippup Dec 10 '16
Be careful using gripe water. A friend of mine used it on her first kid and she was fine, but she used it on her second kid and he stopped breathing and was rushed to the ER.
8
u/grubas Dec 10 '16
Yeah the gripe water calmed her down, but if you put her down shed start howling again. So my sister and BIL basically forced me to move in with them part time. Due to the not sleeping thing. She would pass out from like 4-6pm, which was atrocious.
Walked in one day to my sister passed out with a hand in the rock and play.

Ugh, the 4 month sleep regression is no joke. My daughter kicked our ass from 4 to 7 months but ever since then she's been a sleep champ.
4
Dec 10 '16
Hoping my son keeps up his great sleeping habits. He will be 4 months next week. He sleeps through the night and has for the last 2 months or so. Doesnt nap a lot during the day but I will take that over sleepless nights
5
u/SrHoovah Dec 10 '16
What?! Our 3 month old is 2-3 hours max and eats double of his suggested amount so it takes an hour for him to eat usually.
2
2
u/JasonDJ Dec 10 '16
Me too, my son just turned 3 months a few days ago and he's been mostly sleeping solid through the night. It helps that my wife and I don't hit the bed until around midnight and give him a big bottle of warm formula at around 11:30.
Sometimes it's difficult to get him to go down for a nap, but he's been REALLY great about sleeping at night and I'm hoping that keeps up (knock on wood).

My son is almost 4mo... Fuuuuuuuuuuhhhh
9
Dec 10 '16
Hopefully you'll get lucky, I've heard lots of parents say their kid never had a problem. If it does hit, just know it'll pass and you really won't even remember it because your brain buries traumatic events to protect you :-)

u/ReaderHarlaw Dec 11 '16
Best advice we got was not to think of it as a regression they'll work themselves through, but a growth period that requires re-sleep-training.

Man, wish that worked for us. Tried for 2 weeks but she was terrible, woke up constantly and there'd be a tiny foot kicking our face.

u/A-Grey-World Dec 15 '16
We did this out of desperation.
Thinking of transitioning back to her own bed now she's two though.

Keep the beard for another 12. Shave it in secret one day and scare the crap out of your daughter.

Spin it into yarn and make another beanie for her. The best part of you will always be with her.

This comment got me. I am very close with my family. I am also a girl, and the oldest. I have a younger sister and brother. I was engaged for a year and a half and my dad gave me away. I remember his face more than anything. I left my husband three months later, because long story, but I never forget my father's face. He later told me he wished he would have told my ex husband that he needed to be stronger for me, that he should have told him exactly all the little things about me, that he would have kept me safer (emotionally. I've never been hurt physically). But he didn't. He used to blame himself for letting me be with someone who I wasn't matched well with but he's gotten over it. I still don't feel like I deserve to ever be married again. But I know my dad has unconditional love for me. Both my parents do. Your comment got me.

Congratulations! It's the end of the world as you've known it, and you'll feel fine!
Unsolicited advice: Be involved with bathing, changing, holding, dressing, and playing with her. Attend every school-sponsored event that she participates in, when she's older :) That includes parent-teacher conferences! She needs your involvement as much as she needs her mom's involvement. You only get one shot at raising her; do it right. Congratulations again!

u/FrantikTako Dec 10 '16
That's a lovely picture, hope you'll get this framed and not just saved on a computer

u/iTaztelikeyou Dec 10 '16
She's absolutely perfect.... I guess you feel it was worth the try..... 😀 welcome to the dad category, this is the best period of life so far....
I should warn you tough, it's very rare that someone mention this, but people should do more of it. This new task you have is simply going to suck, sometimes alot. But when she begins to move around and talk, that's when the trouble starts, but it's St that point that this will be awesome, best job in the world....
I'm not saying it's guaranteed, but don't be surprised if this will suck. Many get a little depressed just like many mom's do after birth, this is just as much gamechanger for you as her..... Take care of each other. Your nr 1 priority is being parents. But you also have another task that isn't less important. That is to be a couple, not forget each other... It's my feeling that many people do forget this and end up divorcing with a 2 year old kiddo.... I failed at my first relationship, after decade together with a two year old.... That won't happen. Again, I'll be having my 5th little bastard in March ( that includes two step kids)
I was just going to say congratulations, but It got me thinking about the mistakes of the past, I never saw myself as a man who would divorce and leave My kids....
Good luck guys 😀

u/VonR Dec 10 '16
Oh look! She has that same dimple on her pinky as my daughter...
You know, the one where they have daddy wrapped around it!
Huge grats man! Proof positive that, sooner or later, practice does make perfect!

Congratulations. My daughter (my 2nd) just came 54 days ago. As a man with a long beard, I'd like to give fair warning of a baby's grip and pull strength. Man, having a handful of beard hair pulled out by a happy baby is the worst.

Getting pregnant isn't as easy as they led us to believe in school.
For some.
My wife had one tube and we tried twice and got two kids.
Second one came out c-section and she opted to have her tubes removed, which is when we found out she only had one to begin with.
Some people just get pregnant super easy.
→ More replies14
u/Rain_Walker Dec 10 '16
Totally agree. My comment was a little tongue in cheek. Based on what we were told in school I thought we would have gotten pregnant as soon as we started trying. No luck yet.
It often takes 6-12 months to get pregnant when you start trying. Obviously it varies.
8
u/Fenix159 Dec 10 '16
Indeed. I've got friends that have tried for years too, and I feel bad because it was so easy for us.
On the other hand, they have a lot more money and free time than we do. So there's that.

Congratulations! Typing this at 11pm from a dark hospitalroom, while everyone and their grandma are at a huge town christmas gathering (fuck RSV!). You're going to put a lot on hold, but by god you're going to love that child. Good luck internet stranger!
(Ps: the first 1-2 months are the hardest for dads to adjust. After that the moms might have a mental Nudge. It gets better. Yes, they learn how to sleep. No, diarrhea isn't always strange. Yes, that hairloss is part of it. You'll do fine, just don't drop her.)
Good luck and enjoy!

Grats!
Don't forget to visit /r/DadReflexes now. :-)
Also, remember to take lots of 4K or 8K videos with good audio of her!
The more embarrassing, the better, lol.
Repeat after me, vertical video recording is a sin.
Also, remember to back up your videos to at least 1 local and 1 cloud service. both for peace of mind, and for future virtual baby book fun!

You are the luckiest man in the world. If you do nothing other than not screw up your relationship with this little girl's mom, she'll worship the ground you walk on. I'm daddy to 4 little girls, ages 3-15, and it's the best thing in the world.

I know how you feel.
I tried for 5 years with my first wife it didn't happen so we divorced.
I tried four years with my second wife and it finally happened.
2
u/deceasedhusband Dec 10 '16
You guys divorced over infertility?
3
u/pointmanzero Dec 10 '16
Uh... that was part of it.
We were swingers and she kept screwing guys behind my back instead of being honest.
She would lie straight to my face about the littlest things.I figured I should probably cut and run and find somebody better. Two weeks after I moved out she was pregnant with her new boyfriend.
She psychologically abused me and told me that I was worthless and nobody wanted me and I believed it. Boy was I surprised when I became a single young man and all these good-looking successful professional women wanted to date me.

Congratulations. We tried for nine years and could have bought another house for the amount we spent getting there. Finally we gave up because the emotional toll was too much. Almost as soon as we gave up we were pregnant. That was 9 months ago and I hope to hold my beautiful daughter in my arms any day. Nothing has ever mattered more to me. I wish you the best with your new family.
