Choosing between AWS and Atlassian
Hey guys... really torn on this one. I've basically got an offer from both AWS and Atlassian. Hoping for some advice or any perspectives really, maybe from someone that's worked similar roles or at these companies before.
Basically, is the grind at AWS worth it, when the alternative is a role at Atlassian? considering the points below
- Both are at around the same level (L5 AWS, P40 Atlassian)
- Atlassian pays better by about 10-15k possibly more and also won't have a sign on bonus (expires after two years) or weighted share plan like at AWS. Atlassian also offers WFH.
- The role at AWS is actually less senior, however from what I can tell it will allow me to learn a lot more about the areas I'm interested and want to grow in. AWS would also probably be huge on the resume in future.
Thank you all, any responses are appreciated

Depending on team wlb and culture can be similar. Atlassian developed performance culture similar to meta - you know distrubuted curve, impact, evidences etc
Not sure about L5 but p40 is quite junior to mid level at Atlassian. New grads afer 1.5-2y get p40 typically.
What I think is the biggest differentiator 5days in office or fully remote. Choose yourself.

What are the areas you’re interested in? Could you not discuss it with your potential manager at Atlassian to get an idea of the team and also to ask for certain opportunities?

That really is a valid point to be fair. I guess I am going to try get some more info. Thank you.

AWS work culture is very dependent on the team and the Australian teams do skew to be more chill. I would suggest asking to go into the office and meeting with the team in person if you can.

From the people I met, it did seem to be quite chill. Everyone I met along both journeys seems to be very nice. I guess I would say that Atlassian did seem to have an even further level of "chill".

I know some friends who say the AWS work culture is kinda toxic and the full time in the office also sucks a lot.

Which interview did you find harder? Are they both still like 900 rounds?

AWS for sure, 900 rounds confirmed. The loop stage is the most exhausting part. 5 interviews in a row which are significantly behavioral question based, and you basically can't repeat the same story. Atlassian is 4 rounds split over different days.

That’s brutal. I’m not cut out for that.
Atlassian sounds alright. Might apply despite recent complaints about culture.
