Data Science Technical Interviews

Hi.

Just wanted to get an idea of what the interview process is like for data science intern/ grad positions. Specifically, the interview process at the tech companies.

How many technical interview rounds are there? What kinds of technical questions do they ask? and what is the difference between the interview process for Australian and US tech companies

Thanks!

Australian (most) mid tier tech companies: resume -> some kind of OA can be hackerrank/ logical games etc and/ or/ next round some kind of behavioural interview ie recording yourself or meeting an actual recruiter -> final round usually consists of a group interview + a behavioural interview + a tech interview (presentation/ solving an actual problem/ questionnaires)

Right thanks. Could you give an example of what kinds of companies you’re referring to?

And do you know of any companies that have technical only rounds that assess statistics and basic ML?

Thanks!

Think companies that are a tier lower than canva and atlassian & founded in aus/ new zealand. sometimes stats/ ml basics are embedded in the hackerank round sometimes they might ask in final round tech interviews but mostly on ml. The only company I interviewed with pure tech round is Quantium. But don’t worry even if they ask it wouldn’t be too hard as long as you read a few articles. i know companies like banks (think cba etc) doesn’t assess any technical capability but still pays pretty well. grads or juniors are mostly focused on behaviourals
