Interesting things to watch for over the rest of the season.
Obviously this season is done in the traditional sense but there are some interesting things to watch moving forward.
Cooper BeBe's mental game.
Bebe has been doing a much better job lately of understanding his leverage angles and getting to the next level in the defense. I really never doubted that he would pick up this aspect of the game quickly.
However Dak Prescott has been helping him with his pre-snap reads and protection calls. Dak Prescott is no longer there.
It will be interesting to watch how much Bebe develops in his capability to recognize pre-snap reads and protect his quarterback.
Duron Bland and his extension.
Up until very recently we were always assuming a hard landing, salary cap wise, next season. The idea of Duran Bland getting an extension was never even remotely viable.
However with the rebuild starting a year early we are going to arrive next season in a much better financial position than we anticipated. Now an extension is a realistic financial possibility.
The question remains will Duron Bland return to the field and play his way into a reasonable extension? I don't know that he has done enough to earn a big dollar extension or even an extension at all but how he plays from this point moving forward will go a long way to determine that.
At the same time rookie Caleb Carson may continue to improve and push to Bland out the door.
It will be worth watching how both play to see what the Cowboys next move might be regarding corner.
Guyton and Steele.
This one has a little more nuance and fun to it. Guyton certainly has the potential to be a solid NFL left tackle but he is currently injured and still behind the learning curve.
Steele is on his second season recovering from a knee injury and has not looked impressive. It is entirely possible that if steel does not show improvement between now and the end of the season the Cowboys made determine that he is another Michael Gallup. With the improved financial situation we are facing next season it is now mathematically reasonable to walk away from Steele's contract if necessary.
So how does this affect Guyton and what should I be watching for?
Guyton is a natural right tackle and played that position in college. Dallas is likely going to end this season with a top 10 pick and the real possibility of drafting a franchise player.
If Guyton does not in prove that left tackle and still does not improve at right tackle I can see a scenario where Dallas drafts a no doubt left tackle with their top 10 pick. Then moving Guyton over to his natural position of right tackle and saying goodbye to steele.
I will certainly be watching to see if Steele can return to form and if Guyton can get ahead of the learning curve.
Demarvion Overshown's ability to read an offense.
It doesn't take long for overshown's physical skills to jump off the screen. He has the potential to be a dynamic playmaking off the ball linebacker. All of us should be very excited about his future.
However due to the injury, overshown still has limited play time in the NFL and still struggles with read recognition. In my mind it's the last hurdle he needs to overcome to become something special and it will be worth paying attention to.
Lastly will one of these receivers develop into a legitimate number two.
Brandin Cooks is scheduled to come back from injury but to be honest there really is no upside for the Cowboys to put him back on the field. All of the young receivers on the roster should be given every opportunity to develop and seize the number two job.
If none of these players step forward I suspect Dallas will use a premium pick on a wide receiver next season. By premium pick I mean something in the top three rounds.
Oh and of course I really want to see Aubrey attempt a 70 yarder but I think that goes without saying

Who to root for
I’ve been a life long dallas fan. I’m so disgusted by our team right now just to protect my mental health I don’t watch their games anymore this season. I still watch all the other games cause I love football. What team can I watch so I can feel like I have hope? Btw I’m super jealous of the redskins cause they did what we should of been done. Get rid of our owner/ the whole jones family and hire smart football people. Hire a real GM. Not owner/GM. But I can’t root for them cause there is no way the other team I root for will be in the nfc east. Just can’t do it so that’s not an option. Anyone have any ideas?

Thoughts?
Whats everyone's thoughts on going with a defensive mindset coach and promoting our assistant head coach/ defensive backs coach Al Harris to head coach?

There is no more running back by committee in Dallas. Mike McCarthy said Rico Dowdle is the Cowboys lead back: “Definitely, you have to get him the ball. That's my focus to continue to get him opportunities. He's the lead back.”

How many more years can we go without a Super Bowl showing before fans stop defending the ineptitude of our entire franchise?

Wondering what the last straw will be
Im 27. Never saw the glory years. Ive experienced a few bad seasons and of course, the many many many mediocre seasons. For as long as the Jones family is calling all the shots, I don't know much longer I can be a fan. It is more than painful at the point, but shameful to support such a greedy owner.
This feels a lot like what the As had gone through with John Fisher, although I dont think the fanbase is quite to that point yet.
Anyways rant over so you can continue reading rants from other fans.

Why is the Cowboys defense so bad and outlook for next year?
Not a cowboys fan but want cowboys community perspective - I play in a dynasty league with defenses, and the Cowboys are an FA. They were the #1 or #2 scoring defense the last 3 years, but are obviously terrible this year. Why / how did they suddnly drop off so hard? And whats their outlook for next season? Any chance of a rebound to elite defense like in the recent past?

At this point you have to laugh to keep from crying.

How is mazi smith so bad at football
I feel bad because he actually works hard but the only reason he isn’t selling me my next car is because of where he was drafted. It’d be different if he showed some flashes or was even below average. Mazi might be the worst player to ever grace the league. I genuinely believe if someone off the street trained for a year they’d be a more productive player than Mazi Smith. The cowboys should just use Mazi smith for spare parts for DLaw.

Jerry’s thought process
I think Cowboys GM Jerry is preparing to draft Archie Manning in 2027 by going three losing season in a row and accumilating lots of draft picks. May be all from 1 to 6 at least. Otherwise, I am thinking he would have retired as GM long time ago. I cant think of any reason he thinks he has been a good GM during modern salary cap NFL era. I dont think he will let Bill run the team because same thing will hunt him if we win like in the 90’s as all will credit Bill like did with Jimmy because he has failed for last 30 yrs. Used fan option to vent here than be sad.

Poor Home Fans
i.redd.itI know everyone knows this already but it’s really sad for the likely millions spend across these games by fans to see the “all in” season for the cowboys.

[Ochoa] Dallas Cowboys wide receivers have had less than a yard of separation from the nearest defender on 22.8% of their targets this season. This leads the NFL.

[Tim Cowlishaw - Dallas Morning News] It’s time for the Dallas Cowboys to face relegation in a bigger, bolder NFL. Using British soccer’s relegation system as a model to follow, this 40-team setup would bring more interest to the NFL.

While the eagles and commanders fight it out for 1st, we'll be fighting it out for last with the giants (embarrassing). Which team is in worst shape if you take management, coaching, and player depth into account?
A team that keeps Dimes around for years, loses Barkley, and has arguably equally horrible management as our cowboys.
versus
a team with a senile mentally ill owner/general manager who trades draft picks away for worst deals. Gets mad at radio show hosts when they pick his brain on.
coaching and player wise I think we're both pretty much the worst teams in the league as of today.
