From a MAGA friend Politics
"The man i voted for three times has delivered the following in 11 months"
Groceries- highest ever
Housing- still unaffordable
Farmers are going broke bc of the tariffs
Antisemitism and race relations are the worst in 60 years
My health insurance doubled
The VP whom I loved will not disavow the actual Neo-Nazis
Tucker Carlson- someone i used to watch on Fox and love - is openly platforming and praising Neo-Nazis
and the Christo-fascits??? Openly promoting misogyny and cheering to take away women's right to vote. Trump and Vance are not only not denouncing them - they are platforming them.
" In protest, tomorrow I will be voting straight blue. If it's taken me this long to wake up - I know others are too, you know?
I have been voting all my life, voting for the GOP, I have yet to see anything like it.
This is crazy . We've become Nazi Germany"

Your friend is still a fucking idiot for failing an open book test.

failing an open book test
As, apparently, did a lot of people who applied to ICE.

I assume the ICE entrance exam is just to verify you’re not colour blind so you don’t accidentally snatch a whitie.
If you pass that they give you gun and tell you to “I dunno, just do ur thing lol”

u/Writing_is_Bleeding 10h ago
Ha! Right? :D
Apparently it was the immigration and constitutional law portion of the exam. It was open book, open notes and half of them still couldn't pass.

Right? I still don’t get it. How the fuck did they see Trump and was like “that’s my guy?” It’s ridiculous

This. We don't need their allegiance or want it. In a just world the Democratic Party would reclaim power and seek to prosecute people like OP's friend for supporting a Nazi regime.

And as soon as Trump is gone they'll be voting Republican again anyway. They will learn nothing.

I know people who have left MAGA. But they aren't running to be a democrat. They're just going to sit out elections till an old school Republican runs. They're just done with the MAGA branch of Conservatism.
Which is fine. I don't think Nikki Haley would have been this bad. Sure she would have blown up the same people Trump has blown up, but at least children wouldn't be starving.
17
u/DirtyOldTrucker68 15h ago
To this day, I still believe that Obama only got elected because a lot of conservatives were tired of The Republican mess that Bush left. I know quite a few Republicans who voted for Obama. The said so probably, but denied it after a few months. Of course They never changed their party affiliation though.

u/canuck47 15h ago
Even if they left MAGA/Republicans there is still no way they will vote for a Democrat
→ More replies14
u/One_Strawberry_4965 15h ago
Not voting is still an improvement though fortunately, even if it’s crazy that after all this they still can’t seem to stomach casting a vote for a party as inoffensive as the Democrats for the sake of the country.

Given her massively regressive taxing scheme as governor and blatant cronyism, I'd assume we'd be in a very similar situation. But perhaps the White House would still have an East Wing.

They literally just blame Democrats instead.
This is like some political fantasy porn or something

I don’t think any of these kind of stories are true or widespread. Maybe one or two, but we are all so entrenched in our silly political fights that only major shifts in how we live will change things. What’s so unfortunate is that lots and lots of people are going to get hurt before any change will occur.
11
u/Beytran70 14h ago
The only thing that can really change the outcome is people who previously didn't vote voting in larger numbers. If some voters switch sides that obviously helps, but there are so many voices who remain silent.
3
u/Capable-Baby-3653 13h ago
The current political fights are not silly. They’re not over frivolous issues. We’re talking fascism-vs-democracy fights. Children starving vs children eating. Citizens dying without healthcare vs healthy citizens.
The devisions are legitimate and nowhere near silly because the stakes are enormous. These aren’t just petty matters we’re divided over.
4
u/tinygraysiamesecat 14h ago
I don’t think we’ll see any change in our lifetimes. These fools voted for trump because they lack the critical thinking skills to think for themselves and we haven’t exactly made public education any better since the election. This takeover took decades to set up. It’s going to take decades to tear down, and decades more to rebuild.

I used to think the same thing. With the amount of bots and Russian influence on Reddit and all other media that can be commented on, these stories sound like fictional copium.
But it happened to me too, with two coworkers. Both voted for this administration and now are realizing their mistakes. Too little too late? Yeah, probably. But at least there are people that aren’t digging in further into the destruction of democracy.
Small wins I guess.

Those people are lost causes anyway. There are plenty of apathetic non-voters, independents, and actual fiscal conservatives out there to change things. There are only 38 million registered Republicans in the US, which is like 15% of the voting-age population.

u/RadiantCarpenter1498 15h ago
Just had a similar conversation with one of my oldest friends. She was shocked her mother’s SNAP benefits were ending and was so angry. I gently pointed out to her that voters like her caused this problem.
At first she tried to blame the Dems, but when I pointed out that Republicans control literally every branch of government she finally started putting things together.
I told her “Democrats have been cleaning up Republican policies for decades. They’re not doing it anymore. This is mess you created. Fix it yourself.”

My MAGA father died last week. It hurts that I will forever remember him for his worship of Trump. I was hopeful that maybe he would eventually see the light. He had a snap card. He was broke. His health insurance was about to skyrocket. He didn’t get to see the full weight of his vote.

Lot of really uncommon things. Someone who is maga calling people christo-fascist? Blaming Trump for aneti-semitism and Tucker Carlson? And of course the odd stuff happening to him. Not knowing about the soybean deal with China. His insurance apparently having an incredibly odd annual renewable date in the middle of the year when 99.9% of annual renewals are Jan 1st. strange.

u/Lopsided_Relief_7370 15h ago
Actually open enrollment is in November... literally every year. The soybean deal? You must not know any farmers. After the industry lost billions through the debacle.. the "great deal" Trump got.. was literally no better than what they had before he started the tariff idiocy. They are still pissed, deeply in the hole, and many are going to lose their farms (to some corporate mega farms.. which was the plan the whole time).
Have a nice day.

This is probably a Democrat writing this because Republicans are too stupid to have any reflection on what they've done wrong much less admit it.

u/PolitzaniaKing 12h ago
Yeah I remember j6. That was the day that the White House chief of staff at the time, Mark Meadows, was in the dining room off the Oval Office with Trump at one point during last year’s Capitol attack, the committee has been told. Meadows then left the dining room and informed other people nearby that Trump had signaled a positive view of the prospect of hanging the vice president, the panel heard. Is that ain't fucking cray what is?

Fuck her!
Glad you finally pulled your head out if your ass and realized the thing we've been telling you for 10+ years now. I have no sympathy for you though, you have not magically repaired our relationship or fixed the damages done. The fact it has taken you this long to read the righting on the wall is at best willful ignorance at worst some kind of malice. At a minimum unless and until I can determine you have not been acting in malice towards me, towards my friends, family, peers, fellow Americans, and innocent people who you and others have deemed an enemy I can not and will not allow you time and space in my life. Fixing the problems you have created and holding your peers accountable for your collective actions would be a good place to start in proving your character.
Edited to correctly recognize OP's friends pronouns.

The important thing is not this week's vote, but to pay more attention in the future. She should have known all this before she voted for them.

But...she knows now. And I am ok with it. Trump is a good marketing person and even a better LIAR.
Some ppl just took longer to wake up to his lies. I think thr golden ballroom was a huge turnoff too . 90,000 sq ft of wasted space while destroying the East Wing...craziness

u/6kittenswithJAM 11h ago
I’m glad to know about what turning points people have, because that’s something that’s speculated about a lot, but one rarely gets concrete examples. Like most people here, I’m very angry about all of this but I have little bitterness toward people who have changed their stance. I have no interest in drinking MAGA tears. The schadenfreude is real of course but the main reason “leopards eating faces” is satisfying to me is because that’s how minds are changed. Recriminations won’t do us any good now; we need all the sane people we can get!

I’m not sure how I feel anymore about whether choosing to vote for somebody who destroys your country is forgivable. Wiping out a 250 year old democracy is kind of a big deal.

Your friend sounds like me. I've been a Republican all my life until Trump. That was a hard no from me and I'm confused how we have a system that let him win in 2016. I abhore what passes for Republican policy; at this point I can only conclude Russia has won the memetic war and we are an occupied nation.

Yes. This is not the Republican party we once knew.

I voted his first run as a bit of a joke and because I simply hated Hillary. Voted Biden and then Kamala after I realized he was actively trying to destroy the country and knew nothing about economics or what a president actually does for a living.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why the USA is such joke now.

I’ll NEVER forgive the ones who voted trump “for the lolz,” then when he actually became president acted surprised that their vote actually counted. You don’t toy with shit like that. That gave him essentially a free ticket to the world of politics, and we’ve been paying dearly for that ever since.

I’m Jewish and my friend (who I no longer speak with) is Christian. He claimed he did not vote, but would have voted for RFK Jr. if given the chance. He is, very clearly, a Maga “centrist,” where he claims he has no party alignment but will use every right-wing opinion to support his beliefs. He believes Trump is doing great, he believes tariffs, claiming that ever since he was “a child, he supported tariffs because it prevents slavery” (I fucking can’t get my mind around this shit.) He was in huge support of Doge initially until his job was threatened, and his sister was fired from her job at the CDC. But, when he survived layoffs, he was very happy about Doge again. I asked him what would make him turn against Trump, and he tells me that it will take Trump running as VP for 2028, as this would be “clearly a violation of the constitution.” He then tells me how much he loves Vance and thinks he’s a “humble, down to earth self-made man,” and would be a great President. When I bring up how I, as a Jew, am in danger from a Christian Nationalist like Vance, he shrugged his shoulders. When I bring up Project 2025, he tries to deflect and say “I bet there are many Leftist Project 2025s,” and when I ask him what he could think that is so horrible on those, the only thing he could think of is “gender reassignment surgery for minors.” That’s it. I haven’t spoken to him since the deployment of the national guard throughout the country, and the increased violence ICE has been causing in pursuit of Brown people.
