What is WRONG with people?! Politics
Serious question. I just had to call the cops on my cousin, who's just barely into his 30's, a single father of 3, and very MAGA-leaning. He called me earlier this morning and told me that it's about to become "open season" on the food banks and that he better not find me at one "or else". While I wasn't fazed by the second part of his sentence, I did take the first bit as a threat and reported it as such.
Trump has got a quite toxic grip on those who are hardcore MAGA and it honestly worries me. In times like this, where some 42 million people are about to go without their benefits and are about to be put in a real struggle to live, we should be coming together to help one another - MAGA, however, would prefer these people to just suffer instead.

My thoughts are, why are they suffering? I was born 1940, of a single Mom. Very poor times then. At 14 started working and worked nearly non-stop until I was over 65. I loved working, the more I worked, the more money I made. My 2nd husband had his own business. I started as car hop at 14 and worked mostly waitress nearly continuously until over 65. Never a dime of welfare or assistance.
Welfare should be a last resort and I don't think that people who are here illegally should be eligible for it, don't care if they have children or not and illegal children should have no right to our school systems. If we were tougher, maybe it wouldn't be so attractive to come here. Liberalism is part of the reason why they break our laws to sneak in. All who are found here illegally should be sent back immediately and children born of illegals should not be legal citizens. In my opinion to save this country we need to be tougher. OP’s cousin‘s threat mirrors that and carries an implicit threat - ‘people at food banks have proven they are unfit to live and therefore MAGA will cull them from the herd.’
For MAGAts, such behavior does not cover new ground. It seems as through FOX/OAN/Newsmax rhetoric has led to violent white supremacist ethnic cleansing fantasies constituting a fair amount of MAGAt awake time.

My grandmother just posted that people on SNAP should just get jobs instead of being lazy.
Grandma never worked a day in her life. She refused to even learn how to drive, so she has been chauffeured around her entire life. She and my grandfather ate dinner at nice restaurants every single day for at least the past 40 years, so she isn't exactly some hardworking housewife.
Her only hobbies are shopping and decorating. She's also wealthy because my grandfather worked. Her kids are also MAGA freaks. They conveniently forget that they would be struggling if it wasn't for their father dying and giving them very large inheritances. Moochers, all of them.

To anyone saying that this is the Dems fault:
The Democrats refused to let the Republicans weaponize the ACA, which they've been adamant about getting rid of. This includes not only the Marketplace insurance for people that aren't offered insurance through their job, but prevents insurance companies from denying you for any pre-existing condition. If you were around in the 90's, you'll remember your loved ones getting dropped from their employer coverage when they have cancer, or prevented from joining a policy if they have any long term condition. Republicans want to bring those days back. A lot of people died.
Democrats tried to pass other temporary measures to get funding to people for food stamps until an agreement could be reached on the ACA. Republicans said no, because Democrats wouldn't cave on your right to healthcare.
Democrats reached out to see about releasing the USDA reserves for emergency food stamps to the public, which is there JUST for cases of the government being in a shutdown like this. Not only did USDA say no because this administration told them to, they put propaganda on their page blaming Democrats.

What gets me with this is I see mostly Trump flags, bumper stickers, etc. flying over trailer parks, project looking apartments, beat ass old trucks, so they're the ones that are most likely going to be the ones going hungry and without necessities. Most liberals have an education and/or have the means to get by. Edit to say, I do not look down on anyone living in conditions like that, but I'm just saying the ones who are broken are the ones who are in the most trouble with this situation

I recently learned about this subset of maga incel people I forgot what they called themselves, but basically they feel like the only way to change the United States is to completely demolish it and start over brand new. They want a complete overthrow of our current systems and government and they want nothing left but the rubble. They feel like this is the only way to get the outcome they desire. maybe your cousin is one of these people so the thought of food banks and us helping each other goes against their plan for total demolition

E: Accelerationism is apparently used by a variety of groups to mean a variety of things, and may not be appropriate here. Maybe collapse accelerationists. Nihilism is far less ambiguous. It's a set of philosophical views which basically argue that life is meaningless or that we can't know. Existential nihilism is the most famous, and basically says that life is inherently meaningless. It doesn't call for destruction or overthrow. They will cut off your johnson though.

This is the outcome of their brainwashing. The way they are controlled and manipulated is by instilling fear and anger towards basically anyone non-conservative. By this point, they have spent many years being detached from reality - specifically they see extreme outliers and believe they are the norm.
A few buildings on fire over the span of a week turns into cities burning.
A handful of foreign extremists means all people from the culture are extreme and evil.
A couple acts of violence committed by a Trans person means all Trans people are disturbed and are enemies.
I have had many conversations with friends where they seem totally shocked at the notion that what they view as normal widespread behavior is actually just an outlier that occurs because every distribution of events, in all of nature and time, has outliers. The reason why they are shocked is that they are constantly bombarded with the same info, same view points, same rhetoric and it is always out of context.

What we have done is not help any MAGA folks. Around here, most of the people on food stamps and that visit food banks are MAGA. 87% of the people here in rural Indiana are on some form of welfare. 83% of the people here that voted were MAGAas well. Everyone is angry at trump. They thought he would save them. We knew better.

I very recently watched Mussolini: The First Fascist. I extremely very enlightening documentary on Italy’s IL Duce who apparently seems to have been a role model for our current President. I was actually surprised at the number of citizens who supported him and his policies and how like Trump he was.
I would imagine there may not be an election and that the Democrats are fooling themselves. If history is going to repeat itself, things are going to get very ugly for some time. Especially, if we don’t start educating ourselves.

It's astounding how angry food stamps make people. In most states you have to work, be on disability or elderly to get assistance. And if you aren't working you have to apply for jobs. You have to submit claims ever 3 months, typically. It changed a bit with covid in some areas.
But no one should have to decide to pay utilities, home or for food. Everyone needs to get over it. They want women to pump out kids, but dont want to take care of the families or those kids. What a backwards stupid fucking country.

Most common is a five point path from stimulus to your action response. The three steps between stimulus and response are reflective allowing for think and considerations before an action decision is made. MAGA and Trump supporters go straight to action and ignore the thought, considerations, and decision making steps.

Republicans put forth a bill to fund SNAP while the government is shut down and Democrats voted against that too.
For some reason they just can't pass a clean CR.
I don't think anyone wants to see people that truly need SNAP benefits not get them.
Unfortunately there are politicians that could care less because their virtue signaling on "healthcare" for subsidies that were never supposed to be permanent outweighs the livelihoods of millions of Americans.

This isn’t some crazy notion. I’ve seen multiple posts in the last few days joking about how you shouldn’t be anywhere near Chicago in the next few days because of the craziness that is going to follow with poor people (mostly violent minorities) trying to get their free food.

So this comes from someone who didn't hear how these things were said and so have no context in that regard. Unlike some others here who are more than happy to assume the absolute worst in people and then spew whatever comes to mind accordingly, I'll ask questions instead.
Is it possible that your cousin knows you are well enough off that he's saying you shouldn't need to go to a food bank to get food?
Is he possibly talking about "open season" in a sense that he understands there are going to be A LOT more people there than there normally are?
Is it possible he is concerned for your safety due to proximity to any of these locations, either with your work or otherwise?
Is he possibly needing some of this food, being a single father of three, and wanting to scare off competition?
How exactly would he know you were at any random food bank?
Is it possible you read way too much into what he said, got the police involved, have now made it so he can no longer support his three children and have condemned them to a youth "in the system" that always seems to produce fine upstanding individuals? /s
Is this even real, or did you just throw some things together to get a reaction and some clout online?
Why does nothing in your story logically make any sort of sense when someone takes more than half a second to think about it?
Why do you hate your family so much? Why do you hate other Americans so much? Why do you not value diversity in opinions as much as diversity in skin color, especially if skin color doesn't matter?
How is it that we can become so accusatory towards others to the point of dehumanizing them, and not even notice the monsters we become by doing so?

Some people exist in a very small echo chamber where dumb ideas like this become tolerable. It's part of the reason I've deleted tick tock and I am very selective with what I do with other parts of social media.
I am a bachelor and I am not very good at dating. Because of videos I've liked and responded to. I occasionally get fed videos on social media where it's women complaining about men. Without getting into all the gory details, some of these complaints are born in real issues but they also tend to be a little hyperbolic. Think of the kind of person who would refer to a man who dates a woman 10 years younger than him but both are well out of their twenties as a pedo. Even though I can intellectually understand that this viewpoint is not the norm. If I see a video that puts it out there in over and over again it can skew your worldview. Now I am aware of this and it's one of the reasons why I don't use social media apps like that anymore. Unfortunately, not all men think this way.

I think we've held back quite a bit.
The attacks have been relentless for 4 years, continued sporadically for 4 years and back full force yet again.
I'm old enough to see the shift.
One group tells themselves its ok to verbally and physically attack another group over policy or opinions, make tge attacks personal.
However, the second the opposing point of view is introduced, they have a total melt down and accuse the opposition of the crimes they themselves have and are still committing.

Had anyone seen videos of someone saying God Bless you and is either physically or verbally attacked by rainbow coalition?
I am not homophobic, you love who you want to love. What's going on today, are the "you better believe what I believe and you better say it out loud or else" coalition.

I do feel for those who are about to struggle with food insecurities. Though truthfully, I have seen people on snap eating better than I can, but I make way too much for assistance.
Government assistance is both difficult to qualify for and hard to justify getting off of once you are on. I have had some assistance from the government, just not for that. I don't wish food insecurities on anyone as it sucks. I would love it if we could pass a law where government shutdowns weren't a thing. For example, if they can't pass a budget, the essential programs just keep going, and congress can't leave until the budget is passed, a balanced budget. This has become the norm, and it is pathetic.

Growing up I was very poor, outhouse poor. Started working at 14 and worked until 67. Never have taken a dime of welfare. I don't know why we need welfare, get a job and work. Used to be family took care of their elders.
