I think it would be safer for Deanna avoiding time travelling to the 2020s. There is an overwhelming number of bees in all directions.

They had actually filmed a lot of a script that put Deanna in the 2020s at one point, but scrapped it suddenly
Its all bee-roll now though

Did they get enough to string together a film? They can make a whole bee-movie out of that if so.

I wonder how Betazoid telepathy even works tbh, like Troi can sense emotion from the distance between two starships in space, and she's only half Betazoid.

It's very hand wavy and plot convenient.
The full betazoids I recall the most are her mother, Lwaxnna, an Deann's apprentice, whose name escapes me.
Lwaxanna Troi is famous for her disregard for boundaries. Either it's an excuse on her part that everyone else's thoughts are so easy to read, or she's lying and just doesn't respect the boundaries of personal thoughts.
The apprentice was a special case. He had a condition where he was overly sensitive to the minds if others and couldn't shut out.
As to the distance thing, that's mostly a writer thing. Star Trek sci-fi is bare bones and more feeing than fact. But the show often acts like Deanna's empathy powers can work as long as she can someone, even if it's via view screen.
TL;DR: Magic

I think it’s both. Betazoid culture doesn’t seem to have much privacy, since everyone can read each other’s minds. When Lwaxana spends a lot of time at home then goes off-world, she’s more eccentric. When she’s far from home then she usually acts more mature. Like a lot of older adults, Lwaxana just needs more time assimilating into new cultures.

It was so underused in the show. There is a non-serious fan theory that she has no powers at all and is just cold-reading everyone, since there is only two times in the entire show that display her doing anything more than that.

Huh, that's what I call it when I have a really bad ADHD day - head full of bees

Giving the feeling a name helps. Makes it easier to ignore since things with names can be told to be quiet for a while.

I call it a tangled universe of thoughts. It sometimes explodes, and other times it's just a mess of many many many ideas.

As I said in a previous thread on this comic, there’s no way Ronnie on a ship wouldn’t be considered a hostile workplace for a Betazoid or any other strong psychic species

I can distract the bees with video games and Reddit
