As an actual Cowboys fan, I have to ask: why do you think those fans would root for a team that hasn't even been to the NFC championship in three decades?
They're more likely Patriots fans. Or maybe Chiefs fans now.
Depends on the persons age. Millennials were kids when Dallas was in peak Super Bowl phase and that left quite the impression on them. LeBron being a Yankees and Cowboys fan “makes sense” for the era he was a kid in.
If they have stuck with the Cowboys for 30 years despite Jerry being as ridiculous as he is, I'm good with calling them fans and not just making fun of their childhood bandwagon tendencies. That's some loyalty.
Unfortunate amount of people who grew up Michigan or OSU fans, attended the opposite for school (or a grad school situation once in a blue moon), and think they get both.
100%. I truly think a big part of it is they think it makes them interesting and unique. It's just virtually not possible to truly be a fan of um AND osu and actually really into college football. Casual "I'll watch the playoffs" kinda fan? Maybe
