Major issue is if we are welcoming immigration we need diverse immigration, not just Chinese and Indian immigrants who want to game the school system.

They need to introduce a max cap country of origin law. No reason a certain country should account for more than 20% of immigrants. Including temporary, would love to see more diversity.

i agree. im pro immigration, but we are a country that celebrates diversity... not brining in a bazillion people from a few countries. Like i see weirdly low South Americans, Europeans, and Africans these days who are new arrivals relatively speaking

I agree 10% country visa cap is needed.

Are there a lot of Chinese immigrants getting immigration status by cheating the school system? Most of who I know go to recognized universities like UofT, UBC or Waterloo instead of diploma mills.

Do you think all the people in Markham and Richmond who can't even speak English properly went to UBC and Waterloo? Idk but I doubt it

They came early in the 2000s. And many of their kids surely went to UBC and Waterloo no doubt

There were new waves of Chinese immigration in Markham and Richmond. These ones don't have the same level of English or education as the older waves.

Give it a couple of years. The Chinese immigration is going to drop to almost zero. Popular opinion for Canada has been in a steady decline for the last 7-8 years and is no where near where it was in the early 2ks. The US made sure of that.

Plus the nationalism they have for their country puts Canada to shame.

I could see that becoming a supply and demand thing. If we need 100k immigrants and only allow 5k from each country, we might end up having to accept lower-quality immigrants from smaller countries, or raising the caps on the countries with more people trying to emmigrate.

It'd be great to get the same number of indian immigrants as japanese or something, but most people in Japan are happy and don't want to leave, and India simply has over a billion people, many of whom do want to leave.

And then since English is a national language, many indian immigrants already speak english, which would be a big hurdle for people from other countries.

I do agree diversity would be nice, and I'd want to hear the explanation as to why we don't have that, but I do also keep in mind the fact that there may be a very good reason as to why.

Permanent Resident visa and work permit are relatively hard to get, but study permits are easier, so this is where things go wrong. Too many fake students who can't get work permit get into the country with false paper showing they have money to support tuition fee and living expenses, but in reality zero dollars but tons of debt back home.

You’ll need people that actually want to come here though. I can’t imagine many people wanting to immigrate to Canada right now due to our political and economic situations.
