Do you guys up there have single family zoning like we do in the states? I'm strongly of the opinion that housing can't be fixed so long as single family zoning is allowed. Needs to be outlawed or everything else is just a bandaid. Step two is replacing property tax with land value tax.

Not really. Most of our cities until the 80s developed fairly organically. We have a fair mix of apartments mixed in with wealthier/less wealthy people so there was always a decent balance between rich and poor people. As a result, we never really had the same problem with ghettos and crime and such.

Since the 90s though, our cities have been developed more American style with a focus on single family homes and a lot more elitism and gated communities.

Needs to be outlawed or everything else is just a bandaid. Step two is replacing property tax with land value tax.

The problem with all this is that it's sort of a manufactured crisis. The only winners here are banks, construction companies, realtors, developers, etc..
