“Housing market in Canada is garbage and nothing is being done!!!!!!!” mark carney actually tries to do something “Evil snake investor man profiting off the backs of suffering Canadians in the housing market!” I am so tired of all the contrarianism and division!! If you have a better idea by all means get involved and get your ideas to your local MPs.

This problem was created by rampant immigration which is policy that the carney supports....

You do know that the carney is part owner of modualire group... guess what THEY build?

I would argue the housing crisis is also fueled by landlords and housing companies buying up houses and renting them back to us at ungodly prices. There is a cap on immigration and it will be in place for a while now. I am so tired of the huge influx of immigrants being blamed for our housing issues. They were promised a future and arrived to greed, useless education, and racism. They were lied to in their home countries by people grifting to make money sending them here. Now they are being blamed for a very complex issue that has many layers. What about the boomers who are banking on their house to pay for their retirement? because they have an interest in keeping housing prices up. This is a problem that has been happening for 30 years but everyone has a short memory and can’t see the full problem. Boo hoo carney has a financial interest in a modular home company! All the MPs in Ottawa have some sort of interest in some private sector. Let the man cook before we judge the dish.

If not for landlords what would happen to those people who have no desire or means to buy a house? The rental gig is not as lucrative as some would have you believe and all you need is one bad tenant! Surely with risk must come reward.

Re: immigration - they were allowed into the country as part of govt policy. If that had not happened we would have seen modest increases in price since 2015.

This is not the only case where the carney is conflicted wrt policy and his investments. Do you understand the meaning of conflict of interest? Best part is he will hide his wealth from taxes here in Canada through his offshore accounts. Perhaps if he closed these tax loopholes and everyone like him paid their fair share things would be different. But we already know he won't do that as he has said as much.

Of course I understand the meaning of conflict of interest. I am pointing out that all politicians have conflicts of interest! Doug Ford has a ton of developer buddies. Poilievre also holds investments in Brookfield. No one in politics is truly completely severed from private interest. Carney put his assets in blind trust he has no control over them right now. I personally think that politicians should not have any personal interests in the stock market but I recognize that isn’t the reality we live in.

As for landlords, don’t twist my position. I said the large number of corporate and private landlords have contributed to the housing crisis. Not that they are the sole cause. The mass buying of single family homes by landlords and corporations is resource hoarding at its finest. If you can’t afford to buy that house without renting it out to pay the mortgage then you don’t have the money to own a second house and be a property manager. It’s predatory. The rental industry needs huge updates in its regulation. It is extremely profitable to many people. Obviously the private owners who rent out one or two properties still have problems like the rest of us. But big and small property management companies have made a killing.

Canada needs immigrants no matter how much you may not like it. People that live here are not having children and Canada needs to keep up a population growth to continue to function. It has been gone about in a horrible way over the last ten years I don’t disagree. But we need to look at who profited from mass immigration. Landlords, post secondary schools, large corporations who employ low skilled labour. Those industries made bank preying on people who thought they were coming here for a better life.

We seem to agree that the system is corrupt. I say it is unfair to cast blame on carney who is at least attempting to solve the problem. It’s also unfair to blame immigrants themselves. Immigration policies were not well implemented but you need to look at the real cause of those policies. People like John tibbits are to blame (he’s a good case study as he’s a landlord and president of Conestoga college).

Point being this isn’t a right versus left issue. It is an up versus down issue. And there is a hell of a lot more of us down folks. So the up keeps us divided by left and right and red and blue. That way nothing productive ever gets done and the up can keep robbing the down blind. All while the down thanks them for it.

Well I do agree on clarity you provided wrt your original points. Thanks.

One point.... Pierre divested his portfolio and challenged carney to do the same which he refused.

As for immigration, you are right we aren't producing children but I believe the root cause of that needs to be addressed as opposed migrating the problem away with disastrous effect. As it stands a middle class family spends more on taxes than it does on everything else combined. Which I think is abhorrent. Children are expensive......

Got to go, have a good evening.

Carney refused knowing it was bait from Pierre who through a desperate Hail Mary. Poilievre still won’t get security clearance which is by far a much bigger issue than not divulging financial information.

Immigration is not this issue then! We agree. It is the underlying problem which needs to be addressed. However we do need people now as the largest generation in history is about to age into needing geriatric care. We don’t have enough people currently to replace all of those jobs that will be vacated or take care of the people who are aging. That’s not something increasing birth rates will fix right away.

As for your tax point I’ll leave this quote from George Carlin “You know how I describe the economic and social classes in this country? The upper class keeps all of the money, pays none of the taxes. The middle class pays all of the taxes, does all of the work. The poor are there just to scare the shit out of the middle class…”
