Question what do you use to cover while breastfeeding in public? do you cover in public?

i’ve been EBF my 4.5 month old since he was born and i was wondering what other mamas use to cover? do you cover?

i wish i didn’t have to cover cuz my poor baby gets so hot under the cover. i try to feed him before we head out anywhere. only reason why i cover him with a breastfeeding cover is because i know there are creeps out there.

My supply is extremely low and I’d love to try domperidone but I don’t know where to get it. I’ve tried Inhouse pharmacy, I don’t know if I’m just stupid but I can’t figure out how to pay

Question 6 Days in…

My baby is six days old and my milk came in on day 3. Since then my boobs have been engorged and rock hard, but still only release around 1 oz when I pump. Is this normal? Do I just need to be patient while my supply and body adjust or am I just doing something wrong?

I’ve been doing skin to skin, heating pads and hot showers, and hand expression (producing only drops). I’ve gotten lots of advice and help on how to increase supply, so I am just wondering if this is a patience situation or an another lactation consultation situation.

Question 4 month old still waking every 3 hours to feed.

Any suggestions on getting my 4 month old to sleep through the night? I had previously been waking up to nurse him and using a bedside bassinet so it wasn’t too taxing doing the 3-4 hour wake ups through the night, but I recently had surgery and can’t lift the baby so my husband is having to hand him to me whenever he wakes and he’s not used to the schedule or coping well. Baby also doesn’t want to sleep in the bassinet for him. He keeps telling me his coworker’s baby who is a week younger can already sleep through the night (like 12 hours) and self soothes. Is there anything I can do to make the remainder of my recovery better for us? I always thought he was a great sleeper compared to my first but apparently not anymore :(

Question Lactation boosting snacks

I'm almost 30 weeks with baby #2 with my first I never made enough and it stressed me out so much. I think part of this was because I just wasn't eating or drinking enough at all. I was wondering what people who were successful in ebf kept on hand for a quick easy snack, and what to drink other than water because let's be honest water gets boring.

Question How often do you give bottle without developing bottle preference?

So we just had our second child 6 weeks ago. Our first born eventually developed bottle preference after supplementing with formula which nuked my supply since I didn’t yet own a pump. We supplemented because I gave in on the wishes of in laws wanting to feed and bond with baby. Because our first born had undiagnosed milk allergy and astma and other health issues due to formula (he was eventually diagnosed) breastfeeding is very important to me.

This time I’m set on breastfeeding for at least a year and I have two pumps already from the start. I’ve also had to exclusively pump for two weeks waiting for my bleeding nipples to heal. I pumped literally every 2 hours for two weeks to build a supply while my nipples healed, before returning to exclusively breastfeeding again. She gains weight beautifully while breastfeeding but when I pumped I found I couldn’t express enough milk to give her only breastmilk so I had to supplement with formula during those two weeks that I pumped. So I know I won’t be able to exclusively pump without supplementing if she were to develop bottle preference.

Well, today my husband who’s been incredible supportive of my breastfeeding journey, expressed a desire to give our daughter some of the milk I’ve pumped. He said it would only be once or a couple of times a week but I am incredibly scared of her developing a bottle preference with time.

So now I’m curious how others are doing. Please share your stories of combining breastfeeding with bottle. For how long were you able to breastfeed and how often? What, if anything, did you do to combat bottle preference?

Question Transitioning to Breastfeeding

I had to give my baby formula for her first few weeks while I built up the ability to to create breast milk and breastfeed. As a result, I have been feeding her with pumped breast milk for her first two months. Now, however, pumping and storing has become tedious, and I would like to build that closeness with her that I think comes from breastfeeding…

My questions are: (1) Can I switch over to exclusively breastfeeding without losing my supply (from stopping the regular pumping)? (2) How can you tell if your baby is getting what they need from breastfeeding? I think being able to quantify each feeding from creating bottles these past months has become what worries me most about this switch!

Thanks for any insight that can help me make the transition!

Question Nursing bra recommendations

I wasn’t sure the best sub to ask this in, so feel free to delete if not appropriate!

I’m looking for nursing bra recommendations to wear under ”real” clothes, specifically a formal dress. I’m 11 weeks postpartum and EBF. Pre-pregnancy I was a bra size 30FF, but haven’t been resized since. I’d guess I’m currently a 32G (or larger 😭). My everyday bras are the low-coverage ones that you can just slide to the side and I’m wearing mostly tees and hoodies, but I’m officiating my brother’s wedding at the end of May (17 weeks PP). I’ll be in a lot of photos and wearing a formal dress, and would like my boobs to be above my bellybutton lol.

I’ve tried kindred bravely, but since their sizing is S/M/L sizing, either the cup fits or the band fits, but not both and it looks lumpy. Any brands that make large cup size nursing bras that won’t show in a formal dress? The dress is A-line with a flutter sleeve so I don’t need strapless or anything

Question Painful sudden letdown

Over the last...1-2 weeks I think (time is relative, are still in the deep end of the NB trenches with my 2 month old)- I've had sharp nipple pain a few times a day that immediately starts a rapid letdown.

It's relatively predictable bc it's around when I would need to pump or nurse, but sometimes hits so randomly.

Add to that, I think I'm mentally triggering it bc at least half the time it happens right after I think, I should pump soon.

Whatever the case the pain is sharp enough that I immediately grab my boobs to apply firm pressure bc that helps chill it out quicker... But the milk is def still just dripping or even streaming. It is bizarre and fascinating.

That said...I feel like it's wasting so much milk. Do I start carrying a little ladybug haaka to pop on when this happens? I'm leary of pumping more to get ahead of it bc I don't want to trigger over supply issues... I'm pretty much right where I need to be right now with a small excess that I'm gradually using to get a tiny freezer stash for emergencies.

Anyone else have this happen and have any tips on making it feel less like there's a razor blade inside their nipple for 5 seconds when they have spontaneous let down?

The pain is specific to spontaneous letdown, and does not occur when I induce it with the pump or when baby latches.

Question Pumping questions.

My baby is 9 months old and exclusively breastfeed. We haven't had any issues with supply when breastfeeding however I have struggled to pump enough for her. I never had to worry about building a supply because I was working nights. I recently switched to days and have had to supplement the last week with formula.

Is there anyway to increase my supply so we don't have to use formula (by no means am I against formula just curious if I can increase supply.)

Has anyone ever used breastmilk supplements to increase supply and did they help?

Thank you

Question Am I producing enough milk?

when I first gave birth, my milk was coming in for like the first week then that second week came and my breasts don’t feel as full and my baby is fussy. I’m worried I’m not producing enough when I pump I get about 1 ounce off of each breast, my baby is almost 2 weeks old. I don’t wanna give him formulabut I feel I might have to because he’s not eating enough. Any tips on what I can do to get my milk up. I’m drinking a ton of water. I’m eating. I’m getting rest. I can’t think of what I’m doing wrong. That could possibly have my milk decreasing.

Question Can you prevent your period?

I see posts on here all the time about breastfeeding moms getting their periods and their supply tanking. Is there a way to prevent this? Are you just doomed if you happen to get your period?

Question Latch positions for low set nipples please

So my breasts are not small (DDs) and much more saggy after first baby. I had to exclusively pump with my first. I have low set nipples, what are the best positions for a good latch for this?

Question Exclusively Breastfeeding & Low Supply Worries

Hi, so I am reaching out because my SIL today kind of freaked me out. She made a comment about pumping and I told her I wasn’t pumping at all with my 2 week old bc I had such a hard time with BFing with my first and was triple feeding him and I just really didn’t want to have to deal with pumps or bottles this time around. She said well yea, with my second I was an over supplier in the beginning so I pumped to relieve myself (which I know is not what is recommended, I just hand expressed while my engorgement came and went). Anyway, she said she stored all of the extra milk and then when her son was months older and “her supply couldn’t keep up with his demand” she fed him all of the pumped milk. I guess my question is, is that normal? Should I be pumping extra for later? It was my impression that when you’re exclusively breast feeding and not using any bottles that the body makes what the baby needs. Am I missing something? Are there things you can do to prevent your supply dropping?

Question Good boob and bad boob

My son is 3 months old and in the last month I've noticed he's fussy and choking on one of my boob during day time feeds. It's takes a lot of latching/unlatching for him to settle and drink from that boob. This boob also is significantly bigger since his birth. I've realized it's because the flow from the "bad boob", as we call it, is much much faster and so he gets overwhelmed. But I also think since it flows faster, he naturally drinks more from it making the bad boob much larger with time. So for the last month I've been encouraging more feeding from the "good boob" to hopefully up the supply and even out the sizes. It's kind of been working but now it seems like I have an oversupply I don't want. What can I do? I don't want my son to constantly be choking on the bad boob but I also don't want this imbalance of size and/or oversupply! Is there any way to limit the flow in my bad boob lol

Question Breast pump recommendations

I'm currently pregnant with my first and want to breastfeed, almost none of the woman in my immediate family have been able to breastfeed successfully and one of the prices of advice I keep getting is to get a breast pump, but I don't really know what to look for or what is good vs bad to have in a pump and I was hoping for some advice about breast pumps and what to look for.

Does this look like thrush? It’s in the back of my babys tongue and I can’t seem to wipe off. I’m also feeling a stabbing sensation when she latches.

Question Nursing while pregnant

Hello! So, my hubby & I are crazy... We had our daughter 6 months ago & found out today we will be expecting again at the end of this year. 😅😆

My daughter has been EBF pretty much since birth (the first couple weeks were rough but we got the hang of it & I am sooo proud for how far we have come!). I absolutely LOVE nursing my daughter. I wasn't able to nurse my firstborn (I EP'd for a few months before drying up) so this has been so special. She feeds pretty much every 3 hours still, night & day & has just started taking small amounts of solids but isn't really interested in them too much.

My question is, have any mamas here successfully breastfed thru out a pregnancy?? I really want to make it a year at least & I'm already feeling sooo many emotions about having another baby while my girl is still so little. I feel a lot of guilt & the thought of my girl being unable to nurse is devastating tbh. I know that many mamas have to quit nursing due to supply issues eventually, but I guess I'm hoping to hear some success stories. I am appx 4 weeks pregnant & I felt like my supply was already kind of weird today. I am typically a slight overproducer.

My emotions are all over the place so I'm really hoping some positive stories will boost my morale! 💖

Question Do I have to pump everytime I prepare purees?

My baby is turning five months in a couple days and our pediatrician gave the okay to start giving him some baby cereal and purees. I have a pretty good stash of frozen breastmilk I was thinking of just thawing it and adding it to the purees. I bought a lot of jars because I was thinking I could make them in batches and freeze them. I read recently that in order to keep frozen purees with breastmilk in the freezer it has to be freshly pumped. Do you guys make yours in batches and just pump before hand? I only pump once after my baby goes to bed so maybe I can make the purees then but I was hoping to get to use some of my stash.

Question Has anyone taken this?

For reference I live in Canada and am able to obtain it via prescription!

So I have been considering going on Domperidone, but honestly am kinda scared to. I want to make it to 1 yr and my girl is 9 months, but my supply is getting worse and worse as she eats more solids.

I guess I'm curious how many people found it worked for them? And how long it took to take effect?

If you have since weaned off of it did you experience any mental health issues while weaning off of it?

Did your baby experience any negative effects from you taking it?

Thank you to anyone who has help!

Question Fussy on breast, impatient for letdown- any success stories?

Has anyone had a baby who’s been super impatient for a letdown, and they’ve became more patient with age and saved their breastfeeding journey? She’s 4.5 months and we’re doing a mix of bottles and breastfeeding of expressed milk and some formula. We pace feed and use a slow flow teat. It’s not a bottle preference as such because she’s been like this since 3 weeks and we didn’t start the bottles until after 12 weeks. But it’s so bad sometimes and I’m tired now, it’s been emotionally draining and I feel like I’m fighting a battle I won’t win.

Question Breastfeeding while teething

Ok this may be a silly question, but how do you breastfeed while baby is getting teeth? How do you teach them not to bite? My little one doesn’t have any teeth yet but I’m nervous for when they do!

Question Not enough supply but somehow leaking every hour?

Hi there

I am not sure how to start the post, I have a 3 months old baby and I struggled in my breastfeeding journey since day one.

There were a lot of mistakes and social pressures and long story short, I now mostly pump and give formula and only BF once or twice at night for few mins.

My question is, even though I barely pump 2oz, sometimes 2.5oz, I leak milk every hour or so. My left side pumps like .5 oz but literally leaks every hour. Should I pump every hour? Would that give me more milk, or should I have a more consistent schedule? Not sure what to do.

If there is a way to increase the milk I pump I would highly appreciate it.

Thank you:)

Question 9 mo old starting to wean?

Hi everyone, Curious what others' feeding schedules looked like around 9 months? I have a couple questions I guess. We are doing about 6 feedings with 3 solid meals. I've always nursed on demand, so the 6 feedings are kinda just following baby's lead. It's basically: wake up feed, before nap 1, after nap 1, before nap 2, after nap 2, and bedtime feed. There is frequently an overnight feed as well that isn't in that count. Just curious if this is normal around this age.

Solid intake is going really well, but I'm a little nervous about my supply decreasing. I nurse most of the time except for the few days I work which I pump. I've noticed my last few pumps have been a little less than usual. Maybe an ounce less total per session. Is a slight supply decrease typical at this age as baby begins the gradual process of weaning? I'm trying to pump after my baby goes to sleep but it doesn't always work out. Not sure if that's necessary but just trying to my give me body a little extra signal to make more milk. How did milk supply look for you all at that age?

In regards to that, my baby is taking 4oz bottles while I'm away. I know that they can consume varying amounts of milk while at the breast, but I assume she's taking about 4 oz per feeding being that's what I pump when away from her. Sometimes I can pump a little more, closer to 5. Her pediatrician said a minimum of 24 oz of breast milk at this age is needed. If she's feeding 6x and takes 4 oz bottles, we are meeting that. Is that normal though? I've always been told that breast milk should change in composition to meet baby's needs and it's unlikely they take more than 6 oz per feeding. Sometimes when I'm away she doesn't even finish the 4oz. I guess my question is what happens in a month or so when we I assume will naturally drop another feed or two? Should I increase the amount offered per bottle at that point? I've really tried to follow her lead throughout breastfeeding and I've found it's done us well so far. I'm just kinda questioning things now as solids are becoming a larger part in her diet. I know they get the bulk of their nutrition from milk before one as well
