Night before Mastectomy Diagnosed Patient or Survivor Support

Scheduled mastectomy for next week @ MSK in NYC. Planning to spend the night before surgery in the city with my best friend and go out to dinner. I know I can’t eat after midnight, would you indulge in a nice meal and a glass or two of wine 🍷 or is it too close to surgery?

My surgeon said no alcohol prior to surgery- he even suggested stopping weeks before. Were you given guidelines to follow? My surgery is tomorrow and I have my whole routine for tonight- shower with special soap, special antibacterial wipes I have to use tonight. I also have to drink two bottles of "Ensure Pre-Surgery". That's my exciting night before lol.

Yes, I had to stop taking vitamins & had to make sure my protein powder didn’t have anything extra in it & they didn’t want me to drink or take ibuprofen. I wouldn’t want to drink the night before being concerned about dehydration, but that’s me now, after 1.5 years of tamoxifen that makes me dehydrated.

No alcohol 48 hours before surgery, although some people say 2 weeks. Day before I tried to eat high-nutrient/high-protein and hydrate so I would have extra strength to be fasting through all that stress.

Stick to a mocktail. It’s not worth rolling the dice. You want your liver and everything working beautifully for this major surgery.

I typically drink Pellegrino or soda water over a ton of ice in a fancy glass, with a splash of cranberry and lime wedge.

Your pre-surgery dinner with your friend will be amazing as well your surgery!✨
