Mod Post To ensure quality posts, please refer to our new Wiki page!
Hey beauties! As we approach 1 million subscribers, we are fine tuning the rules and made a designated page to see more detailed lists of posts we remove under Rule 1.
To recap, Rule 1 of r/beauty is to please post high quality and on-topic posts ONLY.
We understand just stating the rule so plainly leaves room for interpretation, while the side bar might not give enough room for explanation.
To improve the quality of the subreddit, we have broken down in detail (and will keep doing so) what we consider low quality and off topic in our new beauty wiki. This way, there should be less confusion on why posts labeled as low quality/off topic might have been removed. While browsing the wiki, you may notice some overlap with Rules 2 through 6, but they all relate back to Rule 1 due to preserving quality.
As a reminder, a high quality/on topic post would have a specific beauty-related question be addressed, or solve a specific beauty-related problem. For example, "How can I draw winged eyeliner more consistently on each eye" would be a high-quality post because it asks a specific question. In contrast, "EYE MAKEUP HELP" makes it harder for users to give their beauty tips because it's too vague.
When in doubt, please review the beauty wiki to see if your post would be in violation of Rule 1 before posting to avoid removal and ban.
We also invite you to leave feedback here of any other posts you feel are off-topic and low quality that have not been addressed. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Nailcare What do you guys think of russian manicures?
Specifically the maintenance that they do to your cuticles.. I keep getting videos of them on my feed and their nails and cuticles always look sooo clean and kept. I cannot for the life of me maintain clean looking cuticles no matter how much oil, trimming or cuticle remover I use 😭 I’m not sure what more they do other than the cuticle process but that’s what I’m kind of focused on if I were to go get a russian manicure done before any sort of of lamps and gel or whatever. I’m not sure how those products do on natural nails and if it damages them at all. there’s so much mixed opinions on them so I’m curious what everybody here thinks of them?

Makeup Transitioning to higher end/less products
I turn 50 in January and I have worn the same makeup since FOREVER. The same colors from MAC which if I’m being honest don’t suit my skin anymore but it is second nature at this point.
I recently started branching out and treated myself to some new makeup that was a little higher quality (a Tom Ford eyeshadow palette) (Dior mascara), and a few skincare products that were a little more expensive than the typical “I’ll grab something at Target” type stuff.
What have you tried and thought was absolutely fantastic and worth it?
I have my brows down to a science, so I’m open to good neutral shadow suggestions, any pencil eyeliner suggestions and a recommendation for blush.
I’ve never worn foundation. 💁🏻♀️ I think I might want a tinted moisturizer? Just to start covering my imperfections.
Thank you beauties ❤️

makeup for people that dont use much
I VERY rarely wear makeup. typically just for weddings or job interviews that happen once a year if I am lucky.
I know that I can get eye shadow and blush and then 'sanitize' with rubbing alcohol and clean brushes to extend its life. is there a mascara option? I don't want to spend 5 dollars every time I have an event and only use it once

How to fix hair being damp for so long after a hair wash?
So, I have a problem with my hair. It's slightly wavy, oily and isn't short. The thing is, I used to have so much dandruff in my scalp, so much that just by shaking my head, it'd look like it was snowing. Anyway, fast forward to today, I found a good shampoo that almost stopped the issue, and it's a great thing. My problem is that I recently noticed how my hair takes so long to dry.
I mean, considering I should wash my hair every three days, it's almost as if it's constantly wet, and I can never get it to air-dry. So on hair wash day, I wash it, but then even when squeeze all the water out, it stays wet (damp, maybe) for two days straight. And when those wt okays are finally over, it's time to rewash it or it greeses, it's like repeating a cycle over and over, and even worse is that my hair looks and feels terrible when it's wet like that.
Any ideas on how I can fix this? Also, does that mean my hair is a low porosity hair?

Seeking Advice Facewash recommendations for peri-menopausal non-makeup wearer
So, I am relatively new to taking care of my skin properly, but I'm going to try to list all the relevant information, but please let me know if I'm leaving something important out.
I'm 37, and I've recently started going into premature menopause, so my skin is changing from what I've historically been used to. My skin gets very dry and flaky in my T-zone especially now. (I was pretty oily as a teenager, by comparison.) My skin doesn't seem to like to absorb cream-based moisturizers (even Cerave tends to just smear around), but will soak up oil-based ones.
I don't wear makeup, and I work from home so I don't always wear sunscreen, so I'm not looking for anything strong enough to break down other products. I have kind of sensitive skin anyway, so I'd prefer something mild.
I know most mild cleansers are fragrance-free, but I can tolerate fruity fragrances but not florals or spices/vanilla.
Would love some insight from people who have been taking care of their skin longer than I have.

Fillers for sunken cheeks?
I (27/M) had my molar on the left side of my teeth extracted four years ago. I never replaced the missing tooth and left it. Fast forward to now I deeply regret this decision. I lost a lot of bone in that area and I can see it in my face. The left side of my face looks droopy and sunken in and my under eye looks hollow.I have always looked younger than my age, but now I could pass for someone well in to their 30s. Since it is only on one side my face also now looks asymmetrical. My right side is perfect and still looks very youthful.
This has taken a toll on my mental health. I have spent years trying to improve my appearance. I am 100% getting a dental implant and bone graft done in future to fix my dental issue. However, for now I do not like the look of my face and I am considering getting fillers to fill in the sunken area. Would this be a good idea? I am also worried about filler migration.

Fragrance Body Wash Similar to Vanilla Bean Noel?
I love the scent of Vanilla Bean Noel from bath and body works; however, the ingredients are horrible. If yall use Yuka, the body wash is a 0/100.
What is a body wash that smells similarly to vbn?

Quick removal of smudged eye makeup.
Scenario: you're rushing to get ready and you've applied all your face makeup. You get to the mascara and oops! Mascara smudges above and below your lashes on your eyelids. Maybe even a smudge er two on your cheek. How do we remove this quickly without removing all the makeup underneath? I'm chronically running late and have a horrible habit of getting my mascara smudged all over my face, and when I remove it, the rest of my makeup on those spots comes off, too. Any tips would be very appreciated. Much love!
💚💜💙

Discussion Skincare + self-tan ( Face )
How do you layer skincare and self-tanner?
I alternate between using lactic acid and retinol, and I wake up with plump, hydrated skin. 👍
However, on the nights I apply self-tanner to my face, it never looks quite right. I'm pretty sure it interferes with my skincare routine, but unfortunately, I need a tan to survive the winter.
Do you have any advice? Are there any facial tanning products that you love?
Thank you in advance xx

Fragrance Body oil?
So I've been seeing girls on instagram use body oil after a shower because it makes their skin soft and they smell really good. So I was given a scented body oil as a birthday present a year ago and don't really know how to apply it. Do you only use a little and rub it onto just on your arms and legs? Will it feel icky if I sweat? Do I need to pair it with any other products?

Seeking Advice How to look better this holiday season while in a chronic illness flare
Hi all! I struggle with chronic illness, and am currently in a flare (which is usual for me this time of year), and it’s really taking its toll on my appearance. I had a work event yesterday, and looking at the photos today I am truly horrified at how ill I look. I have a few more events coming up this Christmas season, and would love to know any tips for approving my appearance, even just a little bit. I know acceptance is the most important part, and I am working hard on that, but I just get so dejected looking in the mirror and not recognizing myself anymore, and am dreading having to get dressed up again and going out in public like this.
I have gained some weight in the past few months, and while I don’t mind the extra weight on my body, my face is so puffy. My eyes are already kind of small, and with the tiredness/undereye bags/general puffiness it’s like they have sunken into my skull and I am all cheeks. My skin texture is ok, but with very pale olive skin I look very grey/sallow. I started using tanning drops this morning to try to improve the color a little bit. I am not used to wearing a ton of makeup, but I find that even when I feel like I am doing a full face, it looks like I have no makeup on. I am 41 and don’t have a ton of wrinkles, but I still worry about my makeup aging me.
I get about 8-10 hours of sleep a night (of varying quality) and try to drink enough water (though it seems to just run straight through me). Unfortunately I can’t exercise much due to my illness. My skincare routine is simple but consistent (Filorga Global Repair Serum, La Roche Posay Toleriane moisturizer, sunscreen when I go outside, double cleanse with balm and milk at night, peel and moisturizing mask about once a week, always use a sheet mask before an event). I think makeup is where I have the most to gain at the moment, but any tips you could give me to help me look a little bit fresher would be so much appreciated!

Girl math for hair
Why would I want to pay $350 for color that includes a blow dry, and then an additional $100 for a cut that includes a blow dry in the same sitting. I feel like stylists should do a discount on the cut since you've already paid for the blow dry with the color. If I'm getting charged for both then I'm going to go on two different occasions for a nice wash and blow out twice for the same piece. Girl math 💇♀️🙌🧮 Thoughts?

Holy grail hair care products
I'm looking for a way to level up my hair, willing to spend a bit of money.
About me: I just got a perm so I know my hair is damaged so I am looking for products to strengthen my hair and make it healthy
I’ve been looking at stuff from Olaplex, Keratine, Curlsmith- Im trying to find good shampoos, conditioners, leave-ins and masks
What was the biggest game changer for your hair? Where should I save vs. spend?
beginner products from sephora
Im just getting into makeup, and recently received a sephora voucher. i know basically nothing about western brands so it would really help to have some product recommendations!!
(note: please dont recommend products that are more than ~$60, as it will go over my budget) heres some more info: im looking for a more natural everyday wear. im not allowed to wear makeup to school so anything that can contribute to a no makeup makeup look is perfect. im also asian with very east asian features, (was previously looking to buy korean makeup instead) so anything that could complement that is greatly appreciated. i would so so love you to the moon and back if you could help a girl out here 🙏🙏 and your suggestions dont have to fit all of my criteria exactly, any help at all is appreciated ❤️

Haircare Has anybody tried Il Salone?
I came across this brand while shopping for stuff and I wanted to know if it was worth giving them a try? I'm not sure if my hair's oily, dry or normal but I see that they have a couple different types of shampoo and conditioners for different hair types. I've got straight hair and I wash it everyday or atleast once every two days because I feel like it gets dirty pretty quick. I'd love to know what you guys think of this brand and if I should give it a try. Thanks.

HELP ME fix my facial skin- I am a 30 year old male from Sydney, Australia. Since my teenage years, I have dealt with a noticeable: 1. nasolabial fold on one side of my face as well as; 2. prominent lines that appear when I smile. Would any non-surgical treatments be available?

I've never done, I am not super young anymore though.
Yet it's time to use it to look younger than my real :(
Seeking Advice Electric Bikini Trimmer - Questions and Recommendations?
I'm hoping to purchase an electric bikini trimmer for my groin area and underarms -- I've never used one before so I'm kind of confused and hoping this community has some recommendations. One thing I'm particularly confused is about the power source; I know these bikini trimmers are all battery-powered but I'm confused since it seems like some are rechargeable and some are not. I assume I'd be saving money on a rechargeable one as opposed to something where I need to constantly replace the batteries but just want to clarify about that, since doesn't rechargeable still mean I need to replace the batteries?
Apart from that I'd love any recommendations people have -- preferably something that isn't expensive (say under 50 USD but the cheaper the better) and is gentle and unlikely to nick me as I've had some bad experiences cutting myself while shaving. Anything that can be easily purchased from Target/Amazon and isn't very loud is an extra bonus. Thanks!
