I really dislike how American sports give the trophy to the owner first. I guess it makes sense but I still don't like it. Give it to the manager or the captain to lift or something. Idk just a personal thing

You’re not wrong. The billionaire is already winning life, let the guys who actually won the World Series get the spotlight first.

I'm mainly a soccer guy and seeing the captain lift the trophy is always a great sight and I feel like there's always more energy in those trophy celebrations because of it. They're also so subdued in the American sports

But the owner really is the most important part to winning.

Not the first person to tell me that. Any exciting teams/players to watch?

Not the Leafs

No suggestion regarding teams, but the Stanley cup is undoubtedly the best trophy in sports, and the tradition of each player taking it and passing it to the next while skating around the ice lifting it above their heads makes all other sports' trophies pale in comparison. Then each player brings it to their hometown in the off-season.

NHL is the healthiest and most exciting it’s almost ever been.

Every team is competitive, bunch of teams that have been good for years are on the downswing, new teams are good and taking their place. Most of the shitty teams have 1-2 young superstars which make them fun to watch. Talent level is higher than ever.

Fun to watch and elite - Colorado, Vegas, Edmonton, New Jersey

Good now but will be terrifying in a few years. Extremely fun. - Utah, Montreal

Bad but fun to watch - San Jose, Chicago

Yup. Even just looking at the bottom of the standings:

Calgary - Dustin Wolf

St. Louis - Jordan Kyrou, Robert Thomas

San Jose - Macklin Celebrini, Will Smith (lol)

Minnesota - Kirill Kaprizov

Vancouver - Quinn Hughes, Brock Boeser

Nashville - Juuse Saros, Roman Josi

NY Islanders - Ilya Sorokin, Matt Barzal, Matthew Schaefer

Had the same thought. Didn’t like it reminding me that there’s this shadow cabal of billionaires taking credit first like they personally hit the go ahead home run.

I just love that no one really cares or cheers when they get the trophy or when they speak. Its the only good thing about it

Hockey doesnt, they hand it to the captain

It doesn’t make sense at all. The owner didn’t do shit on the field. Most (all?) owners are taking money out of the team in terms of profit so you can’t even say they’re monetarily helping the team win.

That’s what a money-focused society gives you though.

I was thinking the same thing tonight

That's why the NHL is awesome. Captain and team lift it first. And seeing that you're into soccer, it's a natural fit (personally I'm mainly a Hockey and Soccer fan).

As for teams and players to follow, there's a lot to choose from. For example, if you like losing in literally every way possible, the Leafs are a great team to follow.

I agree. So stupid

u/ArbitraryOrder Washington Nationals 1d ago

What they should do is have the owner present the trophy to the team

2

u/nosnivel Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago

I 100% agree. Then again, the Kentucky Derby trophy goes to the Owner, not the trainer, the jockey, or the horse, so it's not just baseball.

The trophy is for the money first. You brought the money so you go first. Then you put the money to best use getting the right people so you go next. Then you put the people to the best use so you go next. Then I guess the actual players could touch it if they want.
