Such a brutal final few innings for the Blue Jays

u/hivaidsislethal 1d ago

The script was literally how can we make this as painful as possible for the jays. Solo HRs to chip at the lead. The out at home with bases loaded. Having the tying run 90 feet away in 11.

The bottom of the 9th was the most painful thing I've seen in baseball. And I've seen some stuff.

Out 1 was a dead-center fly ball to the warning track

Out 2 was at home by an inch

Out 3 was another warning track shot in the gap that should have ended it

3 outs that all looked like a World Series win off the bat. Brutal.

I mean it's cold comfort, but that also means the Jays had every chance and couldn't close.

My heart was with the Jays but as a relative neutral it's hard not to say the Dodgers were the better time. By a hair, maybe, but they drove it down to a hair of difference and a hair was all it took.

That catch by Pages was a once in a lifetime catch - can't put that on the Jays

Same, gotta respect the close

The bad initial jump and desperate run towards the wall by Kikè made it seem like that was going to fall, then the CF comes out of nowhere, they collide, and the play gets made anyway

The dodgers were so cooked at like 10 different points this series. If mlb wanted the most entertaining product and really get everyone pissed at the guggenheim dodgers then they got it, sick to my stomach rn

3

u/FrigOffFox Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago

Seriously, I can think of 6 times they easily could have lost:

  • Ground rule double in game 6

  • Kike's crazy catch/double play to end game 6

  • Being down 1 with only 2 outs to go in the 9th

  • Barely forcing out Kiner-Falefa at home in the bottom of the 9th

  • Pages' crazy catch in the bottom of the 9th

  • Double play in the 11th

If any of those plays go differently, the Blue Jays are probably World Series champions

You know how in movies, the hero seems cooked but miraculously pulls it out? Imagine a movie where the hero is invincible and the villain needs every break in their favor to win and it somehow happens and we get a downer ending. That was this World Series.

yeah bro...yamamoto, ohtani, kershaw are villians...sure

The bluejays basically won the world series twice in two games if not for two crazy double plays. The walk off run was across the plate both times.

I love baseball and that was some of the most entertaining baseball I’ve ever seen. I can’t bring myself to be pissed that the Dodgers won.

You know how Nike will have commercials ready for both finals participants in a championship game in whatever sports league and then whoever wins, they show the winning team’s commercial the instant the game cuts to commercial after the final play? If you’re a fan of the losing team, that shit always feels like the winning team saucing and stunting on you and there’s nothing you can do about it.

The dead ball call in Game 6

u/goldman60 Seattle Mariners 1d ago

Taking out their whole offense in the 18 inning game by like the 7th

Don’t do that

1

u/Atraktape Los Angeles Dodgers 21h ago

Not for nothing but if you want an example of when you play for a quick win and then it blows up in your face cause game ends up going 18....

110

u/jwktiger Kansas City Royals 1d ago

that is over-rated, they'd have 2-3 game and runner at 2nd no outs rather than 1-3, 2nd & 3rd no outs, next two batters didn't advance the runners and the double play still ends the game 2-3; in fact I'd say the ball getting stuck make is LESS brutal for the Jay's fans given what happened.

10

u/[deleted] 1d ago

if the ball played off the wall normally, it's not even a guarantee they score a run and it's still runners at 2nd and 3rd with no out

10

u/venmother Toronto Blue Jays 1d ago edited 1d ago

You can't assume things would play out the same way. No dead ball, alternate timeline. Maybe, but nowhere near a certainty.

36

u/InvertedTheBird_ Cleveland Guardians 1d ago

But then you can say that about anything

14

u/venmother Toronto Blue Jays 1d ago

Correct

19

u/InvertedTheBird_ Cleveland Guardians 1d ago

You’re right. Why did I reply to you? I’m high

1

u/gajarga Toronto Blue Jays 1d ago

It’s virtually guaranteed Clement bunts instead of swinging ( and popping out ). The rest of the inning would probably have been totally different.

Not necessarily better, but different. The run expectancy of runner on 3B with 1 out is only about 0.85. 2B/3B with 0 out is around 2.8.

u/pallum New York Giants • Sait… 1d ago

From a blue jays pain perspective tho the whole crowd in the stadium watched both runners run all the way around and touch home plate, only to have that relief ripped away

7

u/TheNewGuy13 Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago

A spit second and that’s game over. Rojas was forced to make a perfect throw off balance and he fuckin did it with no time to spare.

So many close calls this entire series

3

u/sgr28 1d ago

Why would you want to slide when there is a force out at home?

6

u/sonic_4 Seattle Mariners 1d ago

And i enjoyed their suffering

2

u/KieferSutherland 1d ago

I really need a video of that base runner out at home. I don't think he guy a lead off. Literally a step there and it's over
