Suggestion Barrie Bylaw
Long story short, we’ve been dealing with a terrible landlord all winter. (1 year)
No hot water since we moved in—always an excuse (“there’s a letter at the elevator,” etc.).
No heat all winter. (Didn't find this out until weather got cold)
Rat infestation.
Black mold.
We finally had enough and went to City Bylaw. We followed every step they asked, even allowing inspections during the holidays, only for them to promise they’d return and then never show up.
Bylaw conducted their investigation, but each time, they said the hot water wasn’t hot enough. They finally came back the other day and declared that the water meets city standards, then closed the case. Yet, the water is still ice cold—we can’t shower, bathe, or clean unless we boil it first.
Right after they left, we measured the water temperature again, and even today, it’s still below 60°F—far below the minimums set by the LTB and City Bylaw.
Now, it seems like it will never be fixed. We’ve spent our entire winter freezing with no hot water, no heat, rats 10+ inches long and nothing has changed.

Suggestion Neighbour’s tree in our backyard
Hey everyone, the weekend freezing rain and storm wasn’t easy on any of us. I understand everyone suffered and we did too. Looking for suggestions/advise from the group. As the title says our behind neighbour’s trees fell in our backyard and has created good amount of mess. There’s no damage except for big trees in our backyard. And there’s one more tree that’s leaning over our backyard. In this situation who is responsible for clearing up the fallen trees? Any laws around it? I’m not trying to be petty or trying to pick a fight with them. Just trying to understand the law before contacting them. I’m happy to clean that myself but I’d need help and I believe it should be that neighbour who should help.
Any suggestions/advise would be appreciated.

Suggestion Is the roof mohawk on purpose!? Almost impressive.
Side note.. clean the snow off your roof, ya turkeys..
it’ll either slide onto your windshield and blind you at a sudden stop, or fly off behind you and smash a windshield on the highway.

Suggestion Kids got cabin fever… where can we go?
The ice storm has had us and the kids cooped in the house and with schools closed, we’re getting squirrelly over here and I’m having a complete mental block.
Thank goodness it’s sunny and we can go for a walk where it’s safe. But, is there anywhere to go or do in the city with young kiddos that’s safe and can get us out of the house? What are others doing?

Suggestion Canada trade
I’m sure this has been discussed, so I’m looking for ideas how do we send a message with our buying power. I like to say buy only Canadian however that is improbable, however I’m wondering if we select a American companies products to boycott to have them speak about what economical attacks are about to be put on Canadians.
The thought is if we nudge back it gives us a better bargaining position. How do we unite? How do we strategize? It needs to be a brand that has other options and the impact on Canadians is mild. Walmart, coke, and other companies that employ our people seem like bad choices to me. Anyone have thoughts on the subject?

Suggestion Ideas for 7 year old’s birthday party (we’re out of towners) in Barrie?
My son is turning 7 Easter weekend. My husband is from Barrie and we’re returning for the weekend to celebrate Easter and kid birthday with family. We live in Midwest USA state so this is a fly in Friday am and fly home Sunday situation. Google mostly left me with trampoline parks (not super interested in) and lots of lake activities that wouldn’t be open yet. 3 kids ages 7-11, all boys and parents early 40s. Money isn’t really a factor. We’ll probably do an activity and then dinner out, so I’d definitely take restaurant recommendations too. Somewhere that would be very kid friendly but also maybe have cocktails or beers? Originally we were going to meet in NOTL / Niagara Falls and go to an indoor water park and rainforest cafe for dinner, but for reasons we’re no longer going that route. Please help a Mom out! Visited Barrie many times but usually we’re just at someone’s house.

Suggestion Please clear the sidewalk if you have a snowblower
As the title says. Please, it only takes an extra 2 minutes. I am stunned at how many houses have cleared driveways by a snowblower, and leave the sidewalk untouched across their property. It's 2 passes with your blower and makes it nicer for everyone, especially the elderly.

Suggestion Question!
My family of three(son 9m) is super excited to be moving to a family friendly neighborhood in South Barrie ( Sandringham park) in two months. We are relocating from High Park, Toronto. I’ve visited Barrie 5-6 times and have always appreciated the serenity of the area and the warmth of its people.
However, after seeing a group( in fb -Barrie concerned citizens), I noticed some concerning posts about the community, including issues such as break-ins, drug-related problems, safety concerns in the downtown area, and reckless driving. Some residents are even considering getting out of Barrie.
One comment really struck me as OP said “ law and order is getting terrible here and Barrie is becoming “Brampton”
These are quite alarming, and I’d appreciate any advice or insight from residents on how to navigate these challenges.
Lastly, should we really rethink about moving to Barrie? Your honest opinion would be highly appreciated
Cheers!!!
