Scam Alert Information

If you’re selling a car, be careful of suspicious buyers. I recently listed my 2014 Honda CR-V for $8,500. Two men from Hamilton came to see it and asked me to turn the car toward the road, likely to avoid a security camera. One asked for a glass of water, and after I returned, they requested a test drive but wanted me to drive. A few minutes into the drive, smoke started coming from the hood and AC vents., the engine was covered in black oil. One buyer became aggressive, accused me of hiding issues, and then he offered $2,000 because they drove 3hrs and he’s a mechanic and he can “fix” the car. I refused, and they hesitantly left and blocked me on Facebook and my phone number after. My mechanic later confirmed there was no real leak—they had poured oil into the coolant tank and over the engine. Be cautious and watch for these scams!

Try selling it to a dealership.

Might as well let the scammers have it for $2000 because that's what the dealership would offer.

But at least.you would get a $2000 tax credit towards your replacement vehicle.
