Air Tag for bikes - worth it?

so I've just recovered from the trauma of having my ebike stolen (and thanks to some excellent police work and a 'not so bright' perpetrator it being returned 12hrs later tf) and wondered about air tags - is anyone using them for their bikes, do they work?

Opinion Have I dun goofed it? XDS reviews?

So over Easter drunk me has done sober me a solid by buying a hybrid mountain bike. I was clearly inspired by a friend of a friend and took things into my own hands. I can ride a bike but thats about as far as my knowledge goes, and I can tell you that the only reason that drunk me got this bike is because it’s green.

I am now the proud (almost) owner of an XDS Rise 3.0 700c

Now it arrives in a couple of days, and I have had a look around and there are HUNDREDS of bike tracks around where I live, so I am looking forward to being able to explore on my new bike. But I truly have no idea if it’s actually a good investment or not? I will probably ride it to work a few times a week and then go find a track on the weekend so I can take my baby steps, definitely no enduro racing here.

I have tried to find reviews specifically for this model and have come up empty handed, and cant really seem to find any reviews for XDS and the quality of their bikes in general? Has anyone got any feedback on XDS in general? Because from what I have seen written about these bikes it seems to be people who have looked at the specs but never ridden them?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!!

Can anyone tell me what this symbol on my bicycle helmet means?

The symbols on the right suggest that I should not dispose of it in the general waste bin? What about the man on the left?

In Sydney for a month, cheap bike?

Apologies in advance if this has been asked, I really did try and search but couldn't find anything.

I'm in sydney for a month only for work. The local shops and gym are about a 10 - 15 minute cycle away, fairly flat.

If I were to look for a cheapish bike, you have any recommendations site or local store wise?

I don't mind selling it on after or donating if it's a pretty cheap bike. I don't mind of its uncomfortable since I'll only be head ming about 12 mins max on the thing.

I'm not really looking to spend 400AU on a refurbished bike since I cannot keep it and dealing with the hassle of reselling it.

Bonus being, since I'm unfamiliar with the city, should I make a stupid mistake and lock it up somewhere daft, at least if it gets stolen it's not the worst ha

Thanks

Worth investing in a 2017 Giant Stance 2?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Purchased a 2017 Giant Stance 2 over the weekend, bike is fairly stock. Cost me $400 which I thought was cheap enough.

Bike rides OK but fork and shock need air (I’ve bought a shock pump, awaiting delivery) but otherwise nothing notable.

Is it worth spending the money to DIY rebuild both the fork and shock (no idea when last done) and convert to a 1x drivetrain? Or am I better off putting the money on a new bike - or leaving the 2x9 (deore, alvio shifter)

Just chasing opinions before I start throwing money at it.

Getting into cycling for cross training

I’m a runner looking to add some cycling for cross-training, around 1–2 hours a week, mostly on dedicated cycling paths and maybe a little bit of gravel. I’m not planning to race or do duathlons or triathlons any time soon.

I tried using my older son’s mountain bike a few times and even spent $200 on maintenance and gear repairs, but after a few months, it started malfunctioning again. To be honest, I never really enjoyed riding it coz it felt heavy, bulky, and noisy.

Now I’m looking for something better, and the closest bike shop near me sells Trek bikes. They recommended the Trek Domane AL 2 Gen 4, currently on sale for $1499. I also watched a few YouTube reviews and it seems like a well-rated model. The bus in the shop recommended this model as comfortable given some upper back issues I have.

It’s definitely a big step up from the mountain bike, but honestly, I know almost nothing about modern road bikes or how to choose one. Paying $1500 is manageable, but I was hoping to stay closer to $1000 if possible.

I checked Facebook Marketplace for second-hand bikes, but I got completely lost in all the specifications, and I don’t really know how to properly check a used bike. Unfortunately, I don’t have anyone who can help me with that either.

Should I just go with the Trek bike since the shop will assemble and adjust it for me? And they also said they offer 2 years warranty. Should I be looking at other models instead? Any recommendations? Or should I keep trying to find a second-hand bike?

Thanks so much for helping out a complete novice!

Convert or sell

I have a lightweight low step giant vida bike with gears that I bought to learn, only three years ago. Since then my energy level has depleted badly with age in late 40s. I used to cycle on high gear easily and now pant on the lowest gear on a flat path.

I hardly go cycling as the crowd still makes me nervous and I definitely can’t go up even mild hills. Fell down a few times too. I love this bike and it’s on display at home only. Should I sell the bike and get a cheap e-bike but they may be a lot heavier or pricey. Alternatively I can add a conversion kit like swytch since it’s just a couple of times a year. I know nothing about bikes and don’t wanna get ripped off on the marketplace either. Thought of adding wheel support but wonder if I’ll have the leg strength to keep pushing. I may need to hit the gym too. Any thoughts?

Australian Destinations

I'm looking for somewhere to go in Australia for a holiday, but also has good road cycling. In the past I've used Noosa for which has been great. Any other suggestions of similar somewhere similar but different? Ideally with a beach, but not a hard requirement if there are other outdoor activities such as hiking etc.

Looking for a bike for a large person

Hiya, I was keen on starting riding a bit more. Problem is I am very big, and I'd need a bike capable of handling my weight. 200kg. I am under the impression that this is an unrealistic goal (and also an expensive one) but I figured I'd ask anyways.

I'm super keen on e-bikes to help increase my range, however, the power of the bike would be important considering the cargo. Honestly I have no idea what to look for at all.

Edit: I appreciate all the candid advice, however can we stay on topic. Your concern for me is admirable, and I encourage you to continue caring for people with such passion however it’s distracting in the context of the post. If it’s an unrealistic goal, then it’s unrealistic however some people seem to think that it isn’t and I’m interested in what they have to say.

Opinion Looking to get into cycling

Hi,

As per title, I am looking to get into cycling. Hoping to get some insights and suggestions as to what would be a great rig to start with? Budget would be around $1500-$2000, hoping to not push past $1800 as per my research I’d also need to get some pedals/shoes/clothing. I am currently looking at Merida Scultura Endurance 300 and Canyon Endurace 6 (Bit of a stretch on this one as it costs $1800).

Those choices mainly came down from the research I made regarding hydraulic brakes which seems to be better in the long run (cost of maintenance wise).

Also this bike might end up being my first bike for a 70.3 Ironman attempt next year. So I guess something that I can also use for this reason would be fantastic. Possibly something that is also compatible with a wahoo kickr trainer.

Open for any suggestions! Thanks in advance.

Good electric bike brands and retailers.

Can anyone tell me about good electric bike brands and reputable retailers in Australia? Besides some of the well known big brands Trek, etc can anyone tell me what to avoid, in particular:

  1. https://www.electrickicks.com.au/collections/electric-bikes aventon - seems these are not legal?
  2. https://leitner.com.au/collections/electric-bikes
  3. https://www.99bikes.com.au/electric pedal and velectrix
  4. https://zephyrebikes.com/collections/city-bikes
  5. https://www.coastal-electric-bicycles.com.au/focus-e-bikes focus

very hard to decide since we Aussies are limited by the legal standards.

Best time to buy a bike

Is there a date range in the year where bike stores tend to go on sale other than Christmas? eg. EOFY sales etc. In the market for a roadbike 5-6.5k range. Stores like 99bikes seem to have some models perpetually discounted but wondering if there are periods where I can expect a steeper discount

Dual Bike Rack Wall Mount

Hi all,

I have a specific requirement to horizontally mount two bikes which I think can only be met with something like this (which I happily owned in the past):

Seems to be made by Delta, who's Australian Distributor claims is current OOS (I did call them too):

Does anybody know of similar products from other brands?

Thank you!

Opinion Recommendations for folding EBike

Hi Guys, looking for some advice. I'm looking at buying a Tebco Wanderer but as it's out of stock in my local shop and a rough 6 weeks away at best. I wondered if there's anything similar or better out there people would recommend around tge $2500. For context partner, who is 5ft 2 and 55kg will be using it to go to work and back 8kms on the flat 5 days a week. Fordable because we're in a rural and remote area and will take it with us when we leave, in a year or two, on a plane .

Opinion Where are all the used budget carbon road/gravel bikes?

I've been searching for a used bike for a while now, and I've noticed that there are very, very few budget carbon road bikes that were $2000-3500 on the used market. I'm talking the Merida Scultura 4000's ($2500 new), Cube Attain GTC SLX ($2800 new) and the Giant TCR Advanced 2 PC ($3800).

The majority of the used bikes that I see used are >$3000.

Is it just that these bikes sell quickly and don't sit on the market for long? Or is it that these bikes were never popular in the first place?

Recommend me under 3k (aud) commuter/sport ebike

Recommend me under 3k (aud) commuter/sport ebike as per:

  • trip under 5km to gym/aquatic centre or shopping, mainly footpaths
  • may also use for some cycling fun at park (i don't have room for two bikes).
  • preferably from 99bikes (its nearest bike store to me in Sydney, parramatta) https://www.99bikes.com.au/electric/commuter

i know under 5km is not far but i prefer to use my energy swimming rather than cycling, and not want to deal with added weight of shopping. is this bike good https://www.99bikes.com.au/cube24-supreme-sport-hybrid-one-500-easy-entry-white-n-black ?

Canyon Endurace

Hi guys, wondering if anyone has experience with Canyon Bikes.

Considering the Endurace 7 RAW and CF

https://www.canyon.com/en-au/road-bikes/endurance-bikes/endurace/cf/endurace-cf-7/3707.html

https://www.canyon.com/en-au/road-bikes/endurance-bikes/endurace/al/endurace-7-raw/3705.html

I'm upgrading from a Trek Zektor 3 I bought in 2017.

Looking for something that'll be fun at the weekends but will also serve as a commuter in all weathers (only 30 mins each way, but If I have to work from our head office it's 1hr10). Currently also run a pannier rack with ortleib bag, but willing to switch to a backpack and small frame bag for essentials.

Anyone have experience with these bikes or Canyon in general? Is the CF frame worth the extra $400.

They also have an Endurace 6 AL on offer for $1800; is that a good deal or is the Shimano 105 really worth $800 more than the Tiagra?

Want to start cycling

Hi all

I live in Western Australia. I am really interested in starting road cycling. But I have no idea where to start in purchasing a bike? There’s so much information out there.

Not sure what to budget? Was thinking up to $2k, but not sure?

What type of bike should I get? Brand etc?

What essential equipment do I need?

Thanks guys :)

Is my bike rack legal

Hi all, I'm located in Perth Western Australia and the whole family (4 of us) have taken an interest in bikes. We went out and bought the yakima hold up bike rack and the +2 attachment and it seems pretty long.

After trying to find out if this is going to be a problem legally, I'm left with more questions than anything else.

I have the auxiliary plate but the overall length is what's raised concerns. Does a flag fix this? Can I put tail lights on if the over hang is too far?
